I agree .. you do have to wonder at a not guilty plea .. either extremely "hopeful" or evidence borderline...two weeks is not that long either for a murder trial..unless there is a massive smoking gun

I don't think evidence is borderline. Maybe I'm wrong here but taking his age into consideration I can imagine a simple 'I didn't do it'. And I think there will be a barrage of evidence against him. Jmo obviously.

Is two weeks a short trial length for murder? I'm not sure about these things.

Obviously trials vary but 2 weeks does seem on the lower side of average...eg Joanna Yates trial lasted 3.5 weeks and they have estimated around 5 weeks for the upcoming libby squire trial

I agree Bampot, I think he's going to go for the ** I didnt do it ** defence.

Re the 2 weeks. I have seen this time period quoted in other trials and they always last for at least 4 weeks minimum.

I agree the trial predictions vary ..but having said that the original estimate is usually based on the amount of evidence to be presented..obviously can go either way ..Jo Yeates trial prediction was 4 weeks but was slightly less.
I do agree though it's very possible his background leans him toward denial of anything illegal no matter how much evidence

This is clearly OT (and please delete if not appropriate) but I thought some here might be interested in this article. I first learned of Gypsies and Travellers when I saw them heading to Appleby with their horses for the fair. It is very fascinating to me their wagons and way of life. I don't know if this lad is exactly of these same people but I have read his people referred to as Travellers. The only thing I can even remotely compare Travellers to here in the US are the folks, nearly all gone now, called the Cedar Choppers. This article talks about them: Meet the Unruly Clan That Once Ruled the Hill Country

Thanks for the heads up, but I haven't followed this case. I guess I shall go back to thread #1 and catch up. I shall gather my info on the case as I read back and will put this case on my list. :)

Thank you!

You are so diligent about court dates that I just assumed you were collecting data on it.

Only 4 weeks and 3 days to go until the trial. Do we think the defendant may change his plea before, or, on the day of the trial?

Probably at the beginning of the trial, or a few days in, depends if he is going to test the evidence as much as he can and just ride it out, but I’ve seen stranger things happen at trials....

I don't know what to expect with it being the trial of a juvenile. I have no experience of one
