GUILTY UK - Lorraine Cox, 32, found deceased, Exeter, 31 August 2020 *arrest*

I didn't think the jury would go out so late

Yeah I thought the jury was going out at 14.20. The Jury actually retired after 15.30 and its being reported that the jury will resume deliberations again tomorrow.

One thing I'm a bit confused about is the judge stating the following...

"I ask you to return a unanimous verdict upon which you are all agreed."

I though the minimum for a conviction was 10-2?

If so this could be 50-50 for a murder conviction as it would only take 1 jury member to wobble.

They always try for a unanimous verdict first. If deliberations go on and on and on they can call the jury back and instruct that they will accept a majority verdict.

The jury had retired by 2:20pm

Thanks for the info on trying to find an unanimous verdict first. That makes sense in that it is better for all involved.

The jury deffo retired at 15:23 as reported in the news. This was the reason why I believed we would not get a verdict today.

Final words of the judge to the jury
"In a few minutes I'll ask you to retire to consider your verdict. When you retire I would invite you to work through a document called the route to verdict and apply your assessment of the evidence." - Mr Justice Garnham.

"I ask you to return a unanimous verdict upon which you are all agreed."

Good afternoon
The Honourable Mr Justice Garnham has completed his summing up of the evidence. The jury has just retired to consider a verdict to the charge of murder.

14:22 'The jury has just retired...'

15:23 While the jury are out, the reporter is just giving us an extra snippet of what happened before they retired at 14:22.
