Seconded. I commented much earlier that this case was rather grubby but I was not expecting it to get more so.

I have now promised myself to lock my car doors when driving around Southampton as it is more of a dump I gave it credit for. It is ugly architecturally, socially and morally.

It is certainly uglier for the presence of Stephen Nicholson. He has clearly been a predator for some time.

This case, particularly the disbelieving treatment of LH by her family, reminds me of the Becky Watts case of a while back involving Shauna Hoare/Nathan Matthews, especially given the flags raised in the recent case review. Shocking and sad.

The prosecution's case is now finished. The defence will now present their case. They call their first witness, the defendant, Stephen Nicholson.

Nicholson will be questioned by his defence barrister, James Newton-Price QC.

He begins by asking some questions about Nicholson's background. Nicholson confirms he grew up in Southampton. He begins talking about tattooing, which the court hears he started in around 2012.

Mr Nicholson, who is wearing a white shirt with trousers, says at one point he operated a shop at Shirley precinct, above Sainsbury's.

Mr Newton-Price begins talking about yesterday's witness, a girl who claims she had sex with Nicholson, while she was 14, after contacting him about getting a tattoo.

Nicholson denies claims by the witness that messages exchanged between them were "flirtatious".
He is asked if he had sex with her at Southampton Sports Centre.
He replies: "No, not at all."

Mr Newton-Price asks if Nicholson was fined for giving a tattoo to the girl, who was underage, after the girl's mother found out about the tattoo.
He confirms he was fined.

Am thinking it is because of her evidence yesterday. She indicated that she had consented to the sex. I know that doesn't make it right as she was under age, but I think the Prosecution decided not to push this one and keep on track for Lucy.
