He said: "We have to make an assumption that in certain circumstances there will be relatively high concentrations, probably in very, very specific locations, which could be at levels that could be toxic to individuals.

"That's an assumption, it's also one we've tested in some circumstances and we do know that there are hot spots like that around, so we have to make those assumptions that some of the hot spots we've still got to find.

Cannot help but wonder if some people thought they were a bit sick with the flu or food poisoning, but were actually exposed to very small amounts of the poison.
speculation, imo.

I don't believe that they didn't find all the hot spots. This poison is supposed to be washable. So I fail to see how it would last that long in some spot. UK blamed the original spy poisoning on Russia. But maybe they have a serial poisoner on their hands who actually resides or works somewhere in that area.

The anthrax attacks in the USA following the 9/11 attacks were initially believed to be terrorism, it was then found to be a bioweapons expert/scientist with access to anthrax. It's all happening very close to Porton Down.

Weren't the targets linked in the Anthrax attacks? I remember following it but don't recall all the details now.

What I find odd is that a former Russian spy is the first to be affected, or even among those affected.

Very close to where it's all happening, there is this facility.
"Porton Down would be notable in any use of nerve agent on British soil, given its importance in testing and understanding such deadly weapons. But it is also by coincidence literally close to the two attacks: Salisbury, Amesbury and the facility are all just a few miles apart, in a triangle that has now become central to the attacks and the fallout from them."

... It's all happening very close to Porton Down.

I posted a link about Porton Down. It's very close to both poisoning locations. Kind of makes one wonder is to what in the world is going on.

I hope they checked the food trash at this couple's home. Botulism poisoning causes paralysis (respiratory distress and foaming) and dilated pupils.

Oddly enough, Porton Down was heralding the use of antibody-linked Botulinum toxins as 'therapeutic' agents a number of years back when it became part of the Department of Health.

I still cannot get past the lucky break of having such a facility only a handful of miles away capable of containing, testing and, yes, producing such compounds from two apparent 'military or State-grade' poisonings. Also, the Russian World Cup hasn't (to date) turned into the hate-fuelled running street battles May et al. were hoping for so we all need a timely reminder that Russians are in fact bad.

As the co-incidences pile up the credibility of the government and their media mouthpieces stretches thinner.

Unlikley but...

Possibly a rogue Porton Down scientist with access to CW training materials. Likes to observe mass public response - like an arsonist. May have even spread contamination while working as an " investigator" on the skripal case, explaining the contamination so far from the park bench.

Did they ever work out the source of contamination for the Skripals?

No.

Up to 100 grams of liquid nerve agent were used in the attack on former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, the head of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has said.
Ahmet Uzumcu told the New York Times the amount of Novichok used - around half a cup of liquid.
Salisbury Novichok quantity suggests it was created as weapon not for research, says chemical weapons watchdog chief

But other articles state the opposite:
The nerve agent used to poison former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia was delivered "in a liquid form", the Department for Environment says.
Only "a very small amount" was used on the pair, who were found unconscious on a bench in Salisbury on 4 March.

Some articles state the daughter’s suitcase was poisoned while she was in Russia. Others state the father’s front door handle was poisoned.

The new victims are British nationals, don't appear to have any connection to Skripals, and there is no evidence they visited the same areas as Skripals did.
"He said that there is no evidence that the latest individuals were targeted in any way, noting that there is nothing in their background to suggest that they would be targeted. The object that contaminated them has not yet been identified, Basu said."

Unrelated to this case, just noting.
1984 Rajneeshee bioterror attack - Wikipedia
"The 1984 Rajneeshee bioterror attack was the food poisoning of 751 individuals in The Dalles, Oregon, through the deliberate contamination of salad bars at ten local restaurants with Salmonella. A leading group of followers of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (later known as Osho) around Ma Anand Sheela had hoped to incapacitate the voting population of the city so that their own candidates would win the 1984 Wasco County elections.[2] The incident was the first and single largest bioterrorist attack in United States history.[3][4] The attack is one of only two confirmed terrorist uses of biological weapons to harm humans since 1945, the other being the 2001 anthrax attacks in the United States.[5]

Having previously gained political control of Antelope, Oregon, Rajneesh's followers, who were based in nearby Rajneeshpuram, sought election to two of the three seats on the Wasco County Circuit Court that were up for election in November 1984. Fearing they would not gain enough votes, some Rajneeshpuram officials decided to incapacitate voters in The Dalles, the largest population center in Wasco County. The chosen biological agent was Salmonella enterica Typhimurium, which was first delivered through glasses of water to two County Commissioners and then, on a larger scale, at salad bars and in salad dressing.

As a result of the attack, 751 people contracted salmonellosis, 45 of whom were hospitalized, but none died. Although an initial investigation by the Oregon Public Health Division and the Centers for Disease Control did not rule out deliberate contamination, the agents and contamination were only confirmed a year later."

April article-
Nine sites had been identified as needing some specialist cleaning, Defra said.

They include part of the Maltings shopping centre (Salisbury) where the former Russian spy Skripal and his daughter collapsed, the Zizzi restaurant (Salisbury) and Mill pub (Salisbury) which they visited that day, and the family home on the outskirts of the city (Salisbury). The home of the police officer injured in the incident, DS Nick Bailey, also needs decontaminating.
Nerve agent used to attack Sergei Skripal was liquid, says Defra

Today-
Sam Hobson, 29, a friend of Rowley and Sturgess’s, told the Daily Telegraph that the day before they fell ill, the three of them were in Salisbury visiting a number of sites in the town’s center, not far from where the Skripals were found.

Sam Hobson, 29, a friend of the couple, described how on Saturday morning Sturgess fell ill and was taken to hospital. Later that morning Rowley also became sick.
Hobson said he and the couple spent time in Queen Elizabeth Gardens on Friday. “We were having a drink and chilling in the sun,” he said.

The map shows Queen Elizabeth Gardens is approximately 1/4 mile from the site where the Russian spy and his daughter were found poisoned.
