Not suggesting you do this if you have any sort of medical condition. Run a bath with just the cold tap, then get in fully including putting your head under with no pausing. In her case it would be worse as she wouldn't be expecting it.

And imagine cold water in the bath, and go colder and take 5/8c off that temp, add in depth; under currents of 3.6m/s

This must be horrific for NB's family and friends to hear.

I believe that the police have access to phone sensors which will indicate when it was placed down etc.
Your belief is spot on. I work in CID for a different police force and the digital media investigators are amazing. The data they can obtain from devices is mind blowing

So, is it usual after such a thorough search of the river for there still to be no evidence?
Yes. Rivers are very difficult to search. People who fall into them are often not found until weeks or months later - or sometimes not at all.

seems she maybe refering to the exit onto garstang road from allotment lane

As it is deep and it goes out to sea/an estuary she could have quickly been washed away by the time they started the thorough searches, unless as it is also shallow in part beyond the bench, then it is likely that could not happen, such a mystery.

There is nothing weird about it. She was on the bench at 9:20am and she has accidentally gone into the river at some point from here on up til 9:35am when the dog was found next to the bench. It’s just a tragic accident.

Not one person seen her on the bench so let’s not assume anything. Case may be an open and close case for you but not me, we move!

You underestimate the affect of cold water immersion, what it does to a body and the current movement.
Yes, her only hope once in the water would have been not to panic and float on her back until the gasping reflex passed and she got back control of her breathing. But in the clothes she was wearing I think it would have been very difficult to float. And when the tide turned (it was low tide) she'd have been moved with the current perhaps caught up under a pocket/overhang at the side of the river.

I do hope she's found soon.

That police interview closed the circle for me on NB walking away to a point further upriver with CCTV coverage and locked exits. I'm aligned now with the most simple, tragic explanation - she fell into the water and has yet to be found. Satellite thoughts around this though (nothing enlightening, just ruminating on the presser really) -
  • The dog was dry so not in the water, how/why did she fall (completely obvious, I know)
  • That window is so small now. 10 minutes. Life really does turn on a dime, doesn't it?
  • The police now have examined the CCTV footage etc. and interviewed witnesses and so on, but I keep being drawn back to that lightening-fast police response and immediate disclosure that there was no 3rd party. It was SO fast. I still find that unusual that they called it SO quickly and publicly. They were almost certainly right though, so it's just an unusual thing that means little probably.
Separately, Sally Riley is impressive IMO - she really cares and she's a good communicator. I'm glad it's her leading the investigation. I just hope they bring NB home to her loved ones soon.
So assuming she was with her phone at the bench at 9.20 - there is a 15min window in which she fell into the river before witnesses found her phone and dog. I wonder if the witnesses looked down the river to see if she had fallen in - imagine how close they would have been to potentially rescuing her??
Assuming she wasn’t with the phone at the bench there is a 25min window for something nefarious to have happened even though mostly all cctv shows she didn’t exit the river area. Which means all of the places with a car access route have been ruled out IMO. So sad all round.

I got that impression when she said they had used an unprecedented amount of equipment and resources and then went on to list them all.

Reporting of water being murky so v difficult to search especially eg earpods

So it's most likely that NB went into the river at the bench. The dog stayed at the spot she went in.

The river was much deeper and faster flowing than was initially reported.

How many people actually saw the lady walking there with her dog on the morning she disappeared?
I find the newspaper reports very confusing, especially with regard to where her mobile phone was found and it seems to me, from these boards, there is now confusion over dog leads/harness.
The phone has been found at the bench/on the bench/on the ground. Which actually is it? Other than this I do hope the lady is found safe and well, I really feel for her family and friends who must be going through hell.

Police tape off car park near the River Wyre

Police today cordoned off a car park and footpath nine miles downstream from where missing mother-of-two Nicola Bulley disappeared a week ago.
Officers have taped off Skippool Creek car park in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, with investigators wearing white forensic suits seen carrying away bags of evidence.
Lancashire Police have not yet disclosed what is happening at the site, which is bordered by a narrow tributary of the River Wyre.
The cordon has now been lifted and the car park reopened to the public, reports The Blackpool Gazette.

Watched the police statement
And accidentally falling into the river is so sad and heartbreaking
I still feel she isn't in there
And the officer gave clothing discription to look out for and still appealed for dashcam footage

I have no experience in this field but wellies are not easily removed so I wouldn't have thought they could come off in the water. She had her hair in a pony tail, no hat, so nothing to lose there, and an ankle length gilet and coat underneath. Assuming they were zipped up they wouldn't come loose either. So aside from the items found out of the water (phone, harness & lead) I can't think of any other evidence that could be found.
The only blank for me is earphones. How was NB listening in to that Teams call? Older pictures (on this thread) show her wearing corded earphones so if Willow had been down the bank and NB put the phone on the bench and dropped the harness & lead to help her/see to her (whatever was going on) she would have had to unplug the earphones from the phone. Unless she had AirPods or some other cordless earphones which would have been in her ears. These are incredibly small so I wouldn't know how easy they'd be to find in a 15km stretch of river with varying current IMO

Horrible situation. Whenever they look at poor Willow they'll be reminded of Nicolas last moments. I hope they find her so some closure is brought to the family.
