It's crazy, isn't it? So much contradictory reportage, even from the police. Why?
It's not from the Police. If you look further back in the (very long) thread you will see links to MSM where people have spoken to reporters. This is where the confusion is coming from. It might be they have told the Police this info but the Police want to keep the public calm by omitting to give full details as they feel it might cause panic and hoped it wouldn't be mentioned to reporters. In the UK we are an island and we have a lot of waterways and lakes and lochs and yet we are not taught open water dangers and survival in schools. It really should be taught.
YMMV but we were taught this at school many times and even had to put theory into practice fully clothed in a swimming pool.

You cannot compensate for cold water shock though.

A friend of Nicola's was just live on Sky News and said the police have had loads of new calls to 101, which hopefully is positive. Looks like Sky are there all day. Nicola's friend also said they were grateful for the news coverage (paraphrasing)

And her friend, Emma, stated that NB takes Willow's harness and lead off for her walk and puts them back on at the end of the walk

Did NB own a Fitbit or any other fitness and/or tracking device?

  • #646
Turns out the lady in red had already spoken to police the day NB went missing and was 'baffled' by the appeal to track her down

Sky news are suggesting we may get an update today from the police.

Yes I said that earlier

It says here she was ‘baffled as to why police needed to speak to her again’ - I wonder if it was to see if she saw anyone else around the time of interest not NB. In fact any of the witnesses they have spoken to may have been asked if they saw anyone else in the vicinity (acting suspiciously). The police wouldn’t have to release this information as it would jeopardise the investigation. JMO.

So NB may have been in the process of trying to put the harness and lead back on at the bench when something happened.

Within that short timescale she did a lot, email to boss, txt to friend & conference call, she certainly appears to have been very focused IMO

Surprising she didn't get back to her sister about her Spa date but guess that was going to happen once she'd finished her work schedule for that period of time.

Just a little observation. It was reported Willow was found loose at the bench and the person who found her had to rush to an appointment so tied her up?
So did she put the harness and lead that was found near or on the bench back on the dog so the dog could be tied to the bench or fence? Not sure if this has been addressed. Just wondering how much the scene of her belongings has been changed before the police getting there.
JMO
Dog witness 1 said she tied dog up so would suggest Willow had harness and lead on still. Unless she put harness & lead back on Willow before tying her up?
Dog witness 2 said dog was roaming free and lead was on bench and harness on grass. This would suggest Willow got out of harness and harness had become detached from lead??

I really agree with this. There should be more education generally about water dangers and what to do if in double. Water scares me so I stay away. I had a distant relative who drowned at sea due to strong currents (he was ex navy & a good swimmer), also a man made lake nearby when I was a child claimed lives. I was reading yesterday how hard it can be to escape the water at the base of a wier. It's surprising how few people know what to do in water if they are conscious and don't panic.

There doesn't seem any definitive answer to this? If it was on the floor, possibly NB was wearing wired headphones connected to the phone and she may have stood up pulling the wire out of the phone and it dropped down. The dog running about loose could have knocked it, or 'someone' could have thrown it there...NB herself or potentially someone with her? It seems various people came across the bench area and one of them could have put the phone on the bench and the next person saw it there, or it was always on the bench. The journalist reports of witness accounts appear wildly inaccurate
This happens to me regularly.

Yet she managed to email boss, arrange play date etc.

I know that a lot of people are considering why Willow wasn't wet and I suppose that could be for a variety of reasons. But as far as I'm aware dogs are very clever when it comes to water and generally don't go in where they recognise danger... eg. it being too deep, a long way to jump in, something in the water etc. So if Nicola had fallen in, drowned, or even gone in of her own will... I don't believe that Willow would have followed regardless if she thought it wasn't safe. Or if the water is the 15-18ft we've been hearing about, Nicola could have just fallen in, gone under and couldn't get back up bc of either clothing, something in the river itself or the coldness shock and Willow wouldn't have seen her again... also signifying danger to her. So I don't think the "but Willow was dry" thing is a lot to go off of.

I think with the boss meeting on the Thursday evening it would've just been a case of dropping the kids off at school and then tying up the loose ends for the week especially with the work meeting scheduled for 9am.

Sure she would've got back to her sister shortly afterwards had circumstances not intervened.

I think it’s clear there are only 3 ways out of the area where NB was on Friday.
1- back out the way she came in.
2- through the back of the caravan park and Allotment Lane
3- via the service road which runs through Rowanwater

Using Google maps to zoom in on option 3 there appear to be a row of car parking spaces at the very end of this road.

The end of this road and these parking spaces is just metres away from where NB was last seen at 9:10(approximately) in the upper field.
This is potentially significant. Thanks for sharing. JMO

From the latest Daily Mail article:

‘A local angler said that even as a strong swimmer, he 'wouldn't want to fall in' at the 'cold, dangerous' stretch of water where Ms Bulley vanished.’

This is the most logical conclusion by a long distance IMO after doing a lot of reading up on the story.

at its highest the Wyre at St Michael's can reach 4.3m, maybe he has fished there when it was deep. SAR teams looked to be comfortably wading in it recently.

Very true. And now we know the water was deeper and faster than first thought/reported.
