Agree completely. My dog would stand there barking her head off if I’d fallen/jumped into water, or done anything else out of the ordinary or sudden.
My spaniel hardly ever barks, even if people come to the door. I’m not sure how shed react if I fell or was pushed into a river but my best guess would be that she would absolutely stay in that place, running round not knowing what to do with herself. she barely leaves my side in the house, even when I go to the toilet!

There still seems to be an ongoing debate over this dog harness, with one side like her friends saying she took it off Willow on walks there, and others saying pictures show still attached.

Not that I see any significance either way.

I'm not sure if anyone has raised this but I'm confused by the dog harness. I'm sure there are exceptions but usually the lead unclips from a harness. I can't think of a reason you'd remove both the lead and harness on a walk?

Just spent some time going through the news articles with the community efforts today with the signs etc. I know they've worked hard since her disappearance but still today a week on they're still out in full force. What a community it made me tear up.

Hello I am new here. Knowing the the local area well, the river and the terrain, I think it’s highly unlikely (not impossible) that she had an accident in the river on this day.
- it was low tide
- preceding days low rain fall
- can walk about in that area of river
- plenty of places to get out
MOO

The river data is clear

Maybe she would't have removed Willow's harness if she expected her to swim. She has her harness on in this picture and is clearly wet.
On the flip side, I have definitely seen pictures of her without her harness but is that because she didn't leave the house with it on, on those days. Could the harness just be for when they are making a car journey? My two only wear a harness in the car so they can be safely clipped in.

Can only think it was removed when she lets the dog run in the fields there. Could easily get snagged on branches or things.

And as someone else has said, for when going in the water.

The dog may not even have seen it happen. It may have been off exploring and then unable to find Nicola.
Yes, and NB (having been concentrating on her phone) suddenly worried that the dog was in the water and not visible, may have gone to the edge to look for Willow.
It's also occurred to me that the type of long padded gillet she was wearing could severely restrict the use of her legs? both in and out of the water, maybe making a tumble in more possible - along with inability to get upright, she may have hurried some distance down river looking for the dog before falling in?

Apparently one theory is that that’s if the dog was expected to be swimming, so the harness doesn’t get wet/stinks after drying. Not sure how plausible this is given the weather atm, would the dog have gone swimming in this cold? I struggle to see much significance though, maybe it was just something she was used to, for the feeling of freedom or whatever. Given the rural location it would probably not have been needed.

The number of ppl who haven't heard is surely reducing dramatically,it's nationwide coverage on TV IMO
I had a seminar this am and only one of my students had heard about it

Glad they've done a 1km search around the last known point. Makes some possibilities less likely.

Can't say they haven't been thorough . Poor LE looks worn out . IMO

I think as humans we simply can’t face believing the most obvious scenario, which means the person is no longer alive, and so we search for other possibilities when we know deep down they are unlikely . I suppose it gives us hope. Sadly I do still think the river holds the answer. It’s just horrible waiting. My heart goes out to all involved.

Whilst true in cases, her ending up in the water isn't an obvious scenario here. Bench not at water's edge, dog not wet, phone on bench, no evidence of a fall on the bank from what we know, water not that deep and fast flowing, search teams on the case quickly. It's perhaps the most likely one but still far fetched and important to consider other possibilities

This seems the most logical explanation. A possible, unfortunate tragic accident.

Dog was not in the harness when seen.

So the dog was between the gate and the bench, not the bench and the river.

So you think that the items were placed at the bench but NB went 'missing' elsewhere on her walk?
But didn't a witness see her on the towpath?
