Same here where I live. Big river with another merging in down stream. Always takes weeks for missing persons to be found and that’s with weirs and ox bows thrown into the mix. I don’t understand this talk of hours and days.
I think this is a great point, it would be interesting to hear someone who lives close to the Wyre / that area to give their experiences on this. Reading EvaP, it really resonated on the amount of times i've read people watching people go in, calling for the emergency services for help and still not coming out alive.

Why is it a good point? Why must she have gone in upstream of the bench?
Because if a theory of foul play is relevant and the phone was used as a decoy, she could have gone in further upstream where she was last seen (upper field by Rowanwater) as opposed to by the bench. IMO.

The English use "floor" in Scotland we say ,"ground" IMO

The English use ‘floor’ for inside a ‘building’ and ‘ground’ for outside. However, if someone dropped say a glove outside and I answered in a hurry, I may say ‘floor’. It’s a word, it’s not hugely significant.

I grew up in London and live in Bedfirdshire. Although I use the words exactly as you state, I definitely hear people use (misuse!) them interchangeably.

Yep. A search up river past rowanwater and the floodgates towards the footbridge makes a lot of sense.

Early Press conference approx 3.50 - “do you believe she walked to that spot or drove and then walked to that spot”. We believe she walked to that spot. Not sure they're being consistent on any thing as the kids were dropped at school so if she didn’t drive and park up and walk to that spot did she not drive herself to school? was her car in the car park (a detail I have missed - apologies if already covered). So much inconsistency, this is all so very confusing… the timings are also bizarre on this …

Here is the clip also re where the phone was found - press conference - “found on the bench, sorry not found on the bench, on the bench…”

Does anyone know if there are any old wells in the area?

If...could have...he said she must have. Which isn't the case.

You could come through the gate ask NB if you could offer the dog a treat then put one in the longer grass then while it's looking for the treats put one hand over her mouth and with the other hand a knife to throat and direct her where you like quickly but quietly .... is it possible ? jmo
It's not impossible, but just seems such a strange thing to do. An opportunist probably wouldn't take the risk and, if it were planned, it would be a complicated and risky plan.

The video of the first stage of the walk done early on by the Daily Mail is interesting, because it shows us the path that goes past the smaller Wyreside Farm caravan park. I find the ending a bit scary, it would be easy to watch someone near or on the bench from the other side of the kissing gate. JMO obviously. That's probably why I've been less sure she fell in the river, my imagination kept seeing something there.

This is why I was musing in the previous thread about whether there'd be value in putting something similar to a body into the water, to see what it typically does. The bench where the phone was found is (I think the police said at the presser) about 14km from the open sea. At what point would you expect the current to move a body that distance? What if bodies routinely sink out of sight and then take 3 weeks to reach open water? No sightings in 11 days could be exactly what we should expect.

I would discount any theory that involves anyone trying to abduct both NB and the dog, or abducting her and going back for the dog. If you want NB, the dog's just a nuisance that's going to bark and will betray your location even more noisily than the smartphone. You'd want to lose the dog.

Stealing dogs, especially purebreds, is a thing though. Is this type of spaniel valuable?

The Lancashire Police divers couldn't find anything and now they've had to get a more specialist dive team in, which doesn't give much integrity to the original police divers.

And this is one of the reasons why I believe lancs police didn't want to entertain SGIs offer of help to begin with.

It now undermines the amazing effort the other rescue teams did for the 10 days prior.

I think the theory is flawed because of how active the area was and the fact that the police state they have covered all of the exits now apart from the lane behind the bench that goes to Blackpool lane. It is far too risky a one track path of sorts with not an obvious exit point before the entrance, there is a small path to the right however which goes to allotment lane but that has been covered as well. This does not mean it couldn't happen but iam doubtful but that doesn't mean there wasn't foul play on another part of the walk especially near the Rowanwater Caravan Park which would offer more areas to conceal yourself. IMO

Is a potential assailant really going to leave a phone behind on purpose? It only makes sense to me if it were dropped on the ground by accident.

Agreed..speak with the older generation of the village, they always know the history regarding all the flooding, local points of interest that need to be considered now in this search, the local fishermen they will have river tales etc. Somewhere embedded deep in the river wyre is where this poor lady is I'm pretty convinced.

Could someone have got her attention behind the gate so she closed the gate over on Willow she was then abducted but the person had no idea she didnt have her phone on her possession until they went back for the dog? Bit out there but possible I think
Yes, good thinking but why would the phone be on the ground ?

  • #139
That's what I think too. I've never quite been able to understand why NB might have been right on the edge of the riverbank, even with a dog involved. You can call a dog back to you, surely, and not have to go right to the edge.
Though I am now more open to the 'not an accident' theories, imo Willow could have been engrossed in/on the trail of some wildlife. Some dogs, if they get dizzy and excited over something, won't respond immediately.

Well phones are always giveaways .. so if the assailant had not touched the phone it would be better to leave it behind so it can’t give anything away.
