JMO:
Is a potential assailant really going to leave a phone behind on purpose? It only makes sense to me if it were dropped on the ground by accident.
I agree dropping it makes more sense. But phones can easily be tracked, so why take something that can show your location. It's just something else for them to worry about and dispose of.

Though I am now more open to the 'not an accident' theories, imo Willow could have been engrossed in/on the trail of some wildlife. Some dogs, if they get dizzy and excited over something, won't respond immediately.
Yep, river banks contain water rats and voles, the odd stoat pops down for a drink, and so on. If the dog falls over itself investigating the river bank, NB goes to see it it's OK and then falls over it as it scrambles back up between her feet, there's your accident.

It remains completely mystifying why she has not been found if she fell in. At some point the narrative must switch to "if she's not been found it's because she isn't there".

Following this. I live not too far from the area.

I must say I am only loosely aware of it, no deep dive yet, but I still think she’s gone into the water and not been found yet.

Does anyone know:

Water temperature the day she vanished
Water current the day she vanished
Depth of water the day she vanished?

Thanks

Willow was dry? How long does it take for a spaniel to dry off or look dry if it constantly shakes and charges around?
Longer than you think, having 2 of my own! You have to assume that what they are running around in to dry off is also bone dry! If that makes sense ?

Well phones are always giveaways .. so if the assailant had not touched the phone it would be better to leave it behind so it can’t give anything away.
Is there any precedent for this? Any other cases where an abductor has chosen to leave the victim's phone at the scene?

This is why I was musing in the previous thread about whether there'd be value in putting something similar to a body into the water, to see what it typically does. The bench where the phone was found is (I think the police said at the presser) about 14km from the open sea. At what point would you expect the current to move a body that distance? What if bodies routinely sink out of sight and then take 3 weeks to reach open water? No sightings in 11 days could be exactly what we should expect.

I would discount any theory that involves anyone trying to abduct both NB and the dog, or abducting her and going back for the dog. If you want NB, the dog's just a nuisance that's going to bark and will betray your location even more noisily than the smartphone. You'd want to lose the dog.

Stealing dogs, especially purebreds, is a thing though. Is this type of spaniel valuable?
I agree. You’d leave the dog and the phone. JMO

I think the assailant(if this is the scenario) has a need to talk with Nicola. This doesn’t seem to be an opportunist.
Nicola will not willingly leave her dog somewhere on its own ( dog owners will understand this). She was enticed away or walked with person with Willow. I still feel she could have got into someone’s car to talk. This could have been work related and probably was.

He seems to be saying

1. He thinks it's likely if she got over the weir, she'd be found quickly on the tidal flats

2. She should have been found pretty much where she apparently went in

3. They can't assume she went in at the bench, therefore search upriver to eliminate everything. e.g. maybe someone found her phone and left it on the bench - a long shot IMO
Upstream is nearer to where she was last seen by witnesses 9:10 ish - would imply foul play though because someone else would have to place her phone in the bench area-pretty soon afterwards if telephony data says it was there at 9:20.

If...could have...he said she must have. Which isn't the case.
Ok didn’t spot that difference in wording but I agree with his potential theory none the less.

Latest video interview with PF from just now, explaining the search area today.

I see Pf is at it again "Its as if NB has been taken by aliens". They are searching upstream today but not the area by the bench as it was gone over by the police search teams throughly. I can't see why with this equipment they wouldn't search this area again unless there is some resistance from the police to this for some reason.listening to the interview again he states we are searching from the weir upstream and then contradicts himself by saying he isn't checking the areas the police have already checked. IMO

I'm really getting confused now. Do we have any official police statement that says the phone was found on the bench?

I believe I have only seen them say that it was in the area of the bench. And it is other news outlets that have reported the second walker saying it was on the bench.

Hi - Just an observation by myself, so OMO. This is probably stating the obvious, and may have been asked already, but there appears to be a lake or pond of some sort in the caravan site. I assume this must have been searched/investigated despite the unlikelihood of it revealing anything (unless wrongdoing has occurred).

Why on earth is this guy talking to media about quizzing the partner regarding stalkers etc. He's there to search the river, not investigate. Someone needs to put a leash on him.

Well earlier on the thread there were posts saying a man with a dog located it on the ground near the bench!
Lots of conflicting reports. First-person on the scene - a local business owner - found the phone on the bench but left it.

He also says that stretch will take today and tomorrow. In his original interviews he was claiming he'd have the whole river done in a single day and thats why lancs police should use him.

All very hard to keep up with, isn't it!

Yes. I wish it could be clarified.

it’s this one where she corrects herself as to the phone being found … I also don’t get why if it was found then, it’s taken until 10.50 (according to this) to alert the school and family … did her partner not have any concerns she had been away for two hours Until this time. Her walks weren’t that long usually.
