Just thinking out loud here, if you consider she only qualified as a nurse in 2011 (I believe?), just four years after that in 2015 are the first (alleged) cases with baby A. I know it’s been mentioned before it could have possibly started before this. But from qualifying to these cases is such a short time frame; 3-4 years after she would have graduated. Potentially 3 years if this had started even before the case of baby A.

If guilty of course JMO

Dr Marnerides was also asked to review the case of Child C, who died in June 2015. The Crown say Ms Letby murdered the five-days-old boy by injecting air into his stomach through a nose tube, making him unable to breathe.

The medic said in his opinion, on basis of all evidence reviewed Child C's sudden collapse was caused by an 'injection/infusion of air into the NG tube'

Dr Marnerides was asked to review the case of Child D, who also died in June 2015. The Crown say she too was killed by Ms Letby via an injection of air. The medic said from his pathological review, air embolism is the 'likely explanation' for Child D's death
It’s really not looking good for the defence today. Those poor families (and the jury) listening to this.

I'd like to know when she gained her qualification for ICU

Didn't she mention she was studying towards it, in the 2013 fundraising article ?

I don't remember. I think I've seen somewhere it takes about 10 months but I'm not sure on that.

I think if guilty, IMO a lot of it could be summed up as her seeing the babies as just tools that she could use to meet her needs (whatever those needs were at the time).

IMO IF guilty etc

Yes me too jmo if guilty

You're correct. I'd say she gained the qualification later that year.

Come on Dan...I can't work out if this evidence is taking forever or if his updates are on pause. Are we ever going to get to cross-examination today...

Staff Profile – Lucy Letby

How long have you worked here?
“I qualified as a Children’s Nurse from The University of Chester in 2011 and have been working on the unit since graduating. “I also worked on the unit as a student nurse during my three years of training.”

What would a typical day in the neonatal unit involve?
“My role involves caring for a wide range of babies requiring various levels of support. “Some are here for a few days, others for many months and I enjoy seeing them progress and supporting their families.

“I am currently undergoing extra training in order to develop and enhance my knowledge and skills within the Intensive Care area and have recently completed a placement at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.”

What will having a bigger neonatal unit mean to you?
“I hope the new unit will provide a greater degree of privacy and space for parents and siblings

On the case of Child I, the medic comes to the same conclusion - that she died as a result of an injection of air
I

So, we have Babies A,C,D & I so far who had air emboli, according to Dr. Marnerides. Goodness me, that's looking bad. Heaven knows what he'll have to say about Babies O and P.

To assist the jury with his findings in relation to triplet brother Child O, who died in June 2016, Dr Marnerides presented a photograph of the baby boy's liver, taken at post-mortem, to the court.

The court has previously heard that Child O died after suffering "trauma" to his liver and an injection of air into his bloodstream.

The images showed a "rather large bruise" to the boy's liver that would have caused an internal bleed, Dr Marnerides said.

Here we go with Baby O. :(

Just looked at the CPS sentencing guidelines and I feel if she's found guilty, she will very likely get a whole life tariff- the sheer number of victims, their vulnerability, her duty of care towards them, the planning and premeditation, causing pain etc. Also the fact she might have caused a lack of trust in the integrity of the NHS ( similar to WC and the police force.) IMO, if she is found guilty of course.

So essentially after 12 maybe 18 months after this training, these cases start happening in 2015 (if indeed baby A was the first case)
If guilty of course.

Conviction for just three of the murders will be enough for that.

I'm sure after the first few babies, she made a comment about how Liverpool provided more support to employees after there had been a death too, so presumably she witnessed at least one death whilst at Liverpool . If guilty maybe this triggered her to recreate it over and over.

Also after Baby A when she wanted to go back in room 1 and the nurse in charge disagreed, LL said this was how she had "dealt with it before", again suggesting she had witnessed other deaths , though of course not neccessarily suspcious or unexpected ones.

All IMO

So dr Marnerides works in London yet he was the coroner for a few cases and reviewed the others. Just looking at his credentials and current work place I think this dr is high league. I’m wondering why he was responsible for some cases but not others. If he is high league was he drafted in specifically to examine these latest cases or was he working elsewhere at the time?

From looking at the charges outlined in the prosecution opening speech, the prosecution also says that E was killed by air injection. I wonder if we will hear more about the expert's view on this in later articles?

Unfortunately baby E didn't have a post-mortem.
