I have had a good few rough days, which have stopped me commenting on the upcoming verdict, my husband had a heart attack in n our living room 2 days ago just while we were chatting normally. He was only 61. Thank goodness he has been saved by our wonderful NHS. I am not allowed to mention anything regarding religion but I did pray.

How very frightening for you both! I’m sorry this happened & hope he makes a full & speedy recovery.

The news today about this case today is exceptionally thin (probably because nothing happened of any note given jury out). News is utterly consumed now with the BBC presenter who was alleged to have had communications with various people and has gone into mental health hospital. I wonder if there are plans by the media ministry to counterweight the verdict in this case - which could be imminent at this point in time, or even embargoed - with other things given the severe impact this verdict is likely to have on the overall mental wellbeing of the general reader once it all gets re-sensationalised. There is no doubt in my mind that there will be reverberations not unlike the Moors, the Wests, and Shipman, if she is found guilty, if not more so, given the serial nature, the person of trust and the fact that those we need to protect most - the defenceless young - died. Insulin aside (and that's a big aside), it seems to me much of the case for guilty relies on Marnerides' witness, while for not guilty, on the discrediting of the other medical witnesses (loath to call the medics themselves a cabal - though if not guilty then that word surely applies) around air embolus, and the statistical arguments (convenient to pin it on LL). I'm also wondering if the jury want their weekends back, or whether they'll give it one more weekend to sleep on the vast arrays of facts, statements, notes and pleadings. I further do not rule out, based on experiences I do not wish to go into here, if any there were 2 psychopaths at work and not just one.

Yes and no

10.30 till 4 is nothing. BUT a longer day, with the intensity of concentration expected, means mistakes will happen if you drain people for 8hrs. People will be too exhausted to state their case imo and might cave to pressure.

As much as 4.5hrs is ridiculous, I hope its a quality 4.5 work day

I think they"d just get exhausted and lose focus.

I agree it shouldn't be too long of a day----but three or four hours? How much can a group get done in that amount of time?

I think they should be able to focus for at least 6 hours a day. It goes fast if you are busy discussing life altering decisions.

In the middle smokers start fidgeting pressing for a break,

In the end everybody looks anxiously at the clock.

You forgot second breakfast snacks.

Well, my guess has come and gone here in Oz, but not in the UK, so I still live in hope!

While we await Letbys fate and have not much to chat about I will tell you the time I went to court during Letbys Cross Examination !
Now I didn’t share this on the main thread as I was very concerned at the time but so many people on many platforms have shared their experience I thought it would be mildly interesting to anyone on here.
I went for the cross examination of dear Baby I and it was very last minute but I just HAD to see how she presented in court as that makes such a difference.
I totally agree with @CS2C in her demeanour, it’s actually quite staggering how almost “ disinterested “ she was under cross examination. The desk was covered with files and the two guards who sit either side of her helped her with getting the right ones out and the correct pages and she did sigh quite a lot when asked to refer to a certain page.
She is very similar to the court sketches, gone is the blonde hair, it’s a light ish brown and quite long and lank. Her face is slightly fuller obviously as she’s around 8 years older than the baby grow photo and her mouth is downturned.
She looks resigned but very tired.
She speaks eloquently with no hint of an accent that I could hear.
NJ KC was very measured with her, absolutely no raised voices and incredibly patient.
It was the day she stumbled over seeing Baby I in her cot in the dark and it was masterful to hear him draw her in without her twigging exactly where it was leading, I would liken it to a cat cornering a rat. She was resistant to follow when he was suggesting it would be almost impossible to see the baby in the cot from afar after she had arrived at N1 along the corridor which was brightly lit 24/7 into a darkened room. She walked right into the trap of one’s eyes adjusting to the light, she claimed she didn’t know how it would affect her eyesight to which NJ KC claimed “ Come on Lucy Letby …. You are a nurse “ and that when she came out with the line “ I could see what I was looking at ….. for “
She realised immediately and of course so did everyone else, she then followed up with her confusion over “ dates “ but we were not referring to dates.
Judge Goss halted proceedings early and court was cleared. I saw her parents outside court, mother VERY defensive and if you glance in her direction she will throw you back the mother of all dirty looks and was muttering loudly to herself which is rather odd as everyone looked. Her father just sits staring at the floor. Janet Cox who accompanies the parents was crying on and off. I’m glad I went but I had no desire to go back. I have never seen a defendant in the dock ( and I have seen many over the years ) present like Letby. She’s a mass of contradictions.

You may not rule that out, but it is ruled out of this case because it has not been postulated by either side.
