Perhaps there has been some form of inappropriate behaviour from juror to juror or otherwise that needs some investigation? It's been 9 months and with 12 folks unknown to each other there may have been tensions in some regard. This article is from 2012 but includes incidents of bullying and inappropriate behavour Counsel Magazine

There's no way I could sit in a room with a bunch of people for eight months listening to this intense subject matter and not fall out with at least one of them - by which I mean never want to see them again, never mind tomorrow at 9am. And I'm a super chill, easy going, conciliatory, 'blessed are the peacemakers', type person who can withstand the absolute most amount of madness and conflict imaginable.

I can only but suspect the sorts of things that could go on between people and what sort of dynamics could arise. They could be in some form of conflict resolution or investigation. God forbid this jury were to be dismissed...

Yes, there certainly could be issues that arise between the jurors. However, they aren't allowed to discuss the case among themselves at any time prior to the end of the trial when they receive instructions from the judge.
