Juror absences were 27.5 days of that 80.

Wow - when you crunch the numbers.
I’m just spooked.

I can't wrap my head around how there has been so many days off and such short days. I'd have completely lost track as a juror

Maybe such complex cases should be bench trials with a panel of experienced Judges?
(Where I live usually 3 Judges).

Retrial would be a disaster IMO.
For the families, hospital staff witnesses and the defendant (still kept in jail).

In case of retrial, I'm done :(

I would rather see a retrial than a hung jury and the prosecution decide it’s not in the public interest to have another trial. That would be catastrophic

There is no way they wouldn’t go for a retrial.

Does it mean with the same barristers and a Judge?

And when?
2024?
Or later?

Of course, a retrial is better than nothing.
But it should be organized differently IMO.

Or it might end in the same way :(

does anyone who attended court remember any pregnant women in the jury?

I doubt it would stay in Manchester but it would depend if the judge reserved the trial to himself ( he would be the judge to hear it again if it went to a retrial nobody else )
Where would the trial be held would be another headache as I would of thought it would need to go off circuit so a different court not on the northern circuit.
It’s a logistical and listing nightmare, nobody will want a retrial except maybe one person.

How does a retrial work, are jurors just told to magically forget everything they might have read during the first trial? Is that even possible? Surely they’d be at least unconsciously influenced already?

A retrial would involve a completely fresh jury, would it not? Or am I making that up lol?

Yes, fresh jury, but pretty much everyone in the country will have at least read some of the media during this trial.

Maybe this is what he meant when he said the deliberations were reaching a "critical point" when there was that juror absence recently?
When did he say that?

I don't recall it.

Could explain what the judge meant by being frustrating for the juror in question.
I think that's reading too much in to it.

The judge will not know how close (or not) they are to any verdicts

Some of you might get summons from the Court to be a Juror!

Fresh jury / same judge possibly or a new judge.
Trial could be on a different circuit ( my guess would be north east or midlands ) and you would be amazed how little notice people actually take in ongoing criminal trials so your jury would have to disclose if they have been following it or not but as It’s made national news immediately you have the argument that she can’t get a fair trial.
Then you have the issue of bail.
Could be any of the above or hopefully none of them.
Fingers crossed.
