GUILTY UK - Olivia, 4, twins Ben & Max Clarence, 3, smothered, London, 22 April 2014

  • #81
'Prosecutor Zoe Johnson QC said: "Although Mrs Clarence and her husband believed that the only appropriate care for their children was palliative care, the children had not reached the stage when palliative care was required.

"Tania Clarence's rational belief that she didn't want to prolong her children's lives became distorted into an irrational decision to kill her disabled children, a decision she had formed well in advance of the killings."

She went on: "The circumstances of the killings, the planning and premeditation, the intention to kill three children, the fact that Mrs Clarence had failed to address her own depression, her controlling behaviour and her underlying belief, means that her culpability is not extinguished by reason of her diminished responsibility and that her responsibility remains considerable." Mum Wrote To Husband Between Child Killings - Tania Clarence court case http://ow.ly/2QGnjR

*I hope to heaven the children didn't stay in the same room. It's horrible to think one might have had to watch siblings die, then wait while mother wrote a letter, for his or her turn. :( The daily mirror reported that police said the crime scene was 'grotesque', with toy cars etc, placed around the chidren's heads. It also said many details of the scene were too distressing to report.

AIUI the twins were in one room and Olivia another. Ostensibly they were all asleep when it happened.

More from the Mail:

And a local paper:

The court also heard tributes from teachers to the children.

Ben and Max were described as "chatty, full of smiles with a real sense of fun".

They were "eager for new experiences," Miss Johnson said.

Olivia was "unwaveringly cheerful and positive" and "very matter of fact about her disability," she added.

Olivia "loved dinosaurs and she loved dressing up as a princess," she said.

The BBC:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-30049419

"The court heard doctors were considering "child protection measures on the basis of neglect," and there was a "fundamental tension" between the couple and medical staff over care recommendations."

Wonder why those reporters left their bags in the middle of a (typically) busy, rainy London Street? Fairly obvious someone's likely to fall over them...

I think Tania may receive an 'indefinite' or 'indeterminate' sentence myself. Just a guess.
