I know that, but surely after him moving in she must've realised he was rather unpleasant. One of the media reports you've copied over says he argued with her for burning his spaghetti and she took refuge in a neighbour's house...Probably because of her age she didn't feel comfortable asking him to leave maybe?

I know. And she had fled the house earlier the same day after the spaghetti incident. It sounds as though she was becoming more wary/apprehensive/frightened of him - for all we know, matters could have come to a head that night because she DID tell him she wanted him to leave.

Hey, can I ask where you have seen about an argument regarding spaghetti? I’m local and it’s the first I’ve heard of that one? Also regarding another comment from someone, asking if he is the same man that was arrested in the Linda Hood murder, it wasn’t him.

Murder probe is launched after great-grandmother, 83, vanished | Daily Mail Online

Local residents claimed that police were called to a disturbance at her home on Saturday after her lodger allegedly angrily accused her of burning his spaghetti.
Mrs Holland is said to have taken temporary refuge in a neighbour's house and only returned home later in the evening after police got her lodger to leave.

A man has appeared in court accused of the murder of an 83-year-old woman in Gorleston.

Pat Holland was last seen on Saturday, July 24 at around 9.20pm near to her home in Lowestoft Road, with her family reporting concerns for her safety the following day when they could not contact her.

Following extensive searches of her home police said partial human remains were discovered.

Allan Scott, 41, of Lowestoft Road, Gorleston, has been charged with her murder and appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday (August 3).

Scott, who appeared via videolink from Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre, and wore a black top, spoke only to confirm his details during the short hearing.

A plea and trial preparation hearing was set for September 28.

Judge Alice Robinson said she would not be setting a provisional trial date at this stage.

Marti Blair appeared for the prosecution and Danielle O'Donovan for the defence.

Scott was remanded in custody after Judge Robinson refused bail.

As previously reported, a police spokesman said: "While formal coroners proceedings will take place in due course, the family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers."

The "best friend" of an 83-year-old woman who went missing in Gorleston is planning to create a garden in her memory.

Patricia Holland was last seen 10 days ago and on Sunday (August 1) a 41-year-old man was charged with her murder.

Elizabeth Hemmings, a close friend of Mrs Holland, said: "Just before Pat went missing, she gave me plants from her garden. I will use them to recreate her garden in mine.

"It's going to be exactly the same as Pat's garden," she added.

Ms Hemmings said she was supposed to have dinner with Mrs Holland at St Mary Magdalen Church in Gorleston on Tuesday (August 3) but instead friends and neighbours gathered at the church for a service in her memory.

"It was a quiet service. We were able to write messages and put them on a memory tree. They had a projector with her picture on and some words of comfort. We were able to light candles. I prayed and told God that it was a privilege to know her."

Ten days after she was last seen friends and neighbours have come together to remember Pat Holland.

The 83-year-old was last seen near her home in Lowestoft Road, Gorleston, on Saturday, July 24.

People gathered at St Mary Magdalen Church on Tuesday (August 3) spoke of their "sense of bewilderment" as they paid tribute to their friend saying she was "a community person" who had "touched so many."

Several people were in tears and comforting each other as mourners were invited to light a candle and write messages on a memory tree for Mrs Holland who two weeks ago had joined them for lunch.

Prayers were lead by Anna Heydon, a volunteer at the church.

She said Mrs Holland's death had been devastating for the whole community and hard for people to come to terms with.

Meanwhile, there remains a large police presence at her home, with police forensic teams working there daily amid floral tributes that have been left by the wall.

A mobile "welfare unit" has been set up in the street, acting as a base for officers. Neighbours say there is talk of a memorial garden for Mrs Holland on a patch of land opposite her home.

Norfolk’s deputy chief constable has reassured the public after a spate of high-profile deaths raised fears about safety in the county.

In recent days, police have launched murder investigations into the deaths of 83-year-old great grandmother Patricia Holland from Gorleston and a mother-of-two from Shipdham, Malgorzata Lechanska.

Around the time same, on Saturday July 31, the bodies of brother and sister Chris and Nicola Long, were found at their home in Costessey.

On Monday, August 2, the body of a missing man from London, Jamie Mason, was found on the coast near Great Yarmouth - but this was not treated as suspicious.

Deputy chief constable Simon Megicks said these were all separate and unrelated incidents and they had “dedicated” teams working on each inquiry.

“In the last two weeks, the force has responded to and investigated several high-profile incidents, launching two murder investigations in Gorleston and Shipdham while also exploring the discovery of two bodies at a property in Costessey,” he said.

“While these are separate, unrelated incidents, we understand that collectively in a short space of time, it can be concerning.

“I would like to reassure residents that we have dedicated teams working on each inquiry; a man has been charged in connection with the Gorleston murder, while the suspect arrested in the Shipdham has also been charged."

The case of a man charged with the murder of an 83-year-old woman in Gorleston has been adjourned for psychiatric tests.

Patricia Holland was last seen on Saturday, July 24 at around 9.20pm near her home in Lowestoft Road, with her family reporting concerns for her safety the following day when they could not contact her.

Following extensive searches of her home police said partial human remains were discovered.

Allan Scott, 41, of Lowestoft Road, Gorleston, has been charged with her murder and appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday (September 28) for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

But Danielle O'Donovan, defending Scott, said her client, who has a "significant history" of mental health issues, is yet to have psychiatric tests meaning the hearing would be ineffective.

Judge Anthony Bate adjourned the plea and trial preparation hearing until November 12 but wanted the case to be mentioned on October 6 to discuss progress.

A potential trial date of January 10 next year has been identified.

I have so much I could say about this case, more so about the person accused but I don't want to jeopardise anything. I truly hope any psychiatric reports don't work in his favour though. He may well have problems but if/when found guilty he needs to be punished properly.

Welcome @Lasttime

Do you know the accused? Obviously we have all read about his previous encounters with the police, and the incident with Mrs Holland earlier in the day of her death.

Thank you. And yes well I used to anyway. I don't know what I can say about what I know about him/experiences I had but I'm willing to tell my story. The police spoke with me recently about a statement I made against him which they wanted but I've heard nothing since so with that and the ongoing case I don't know what I can say on here. It would help if the police had said more to me but they didn't just that they wanted that statement in regards to this case.
Edited to add in regards to my story and the statement I made years ago against him they decided there was insufficient evidence to charge him with anything (a few years had passed and despite prior involvement from them what I was saying couldn't be fully backed up)

Oh my goodness. Sounds like your experience with him was not a pleasant one if required police intervention.

Perhaps best not to say too much at this point with the trial ahead, but intrigued to know after!

What was your take on him at the time? Was he an intimidating sort (certainly sounds it), in terms of physicality and/or manner?

I just wish Patricia had listened to others who warned her against him. I can't imagine what she must have gone through.

He definitely can be intimidating and is also very manipulative. Very much a his way or no way kind of person. He's also been a heroin addict for many years along with using other drugs.

I also wish after reading about it all that Patricia had listened to other people. My heart truly does go out to her family and friends. Nobody deserves to have their life taken.
