Donovan Demetrius claimed what had happened to teenager Becky Watts was horrifying and sickening and whoever had chopped her body up was animalistic.

Demetrius was the last defendant to give evidence today in the Becky Watts trial.

And he claimed he had no involvement in moving the remains of Becky to his brother's house.

Demetrius, who cried as he gave evidence, told how he was staying at his brother's house Karl's which he shared with his partner Jaydene.

I hope he's found not guilty. Not because he cried but because he didn't have anything to do with it imo. Truly a person
'in the wrong place at the wrong time'.

Feel bad for DD, I bet he has been waiting long for this day. When he can set things straight. Must have been horrible having to sit in the dock with the other lot for weeks. I believe he is totally innocent.

I don't recall...how old is DD & what does he do for a living?

  • #284
I was thinking he came across as truthful lol He's the one i haven't seen anythign on, other than he was staying at KD's house at the time all this happened.

Ok - that is helpful. ( A day on the Pistorius Supreme court stuff so catching up here and was really hoping there might have been a progression on the BWatts case and all I could find is SH of the stand, Ireland on and denies all....)

So have I got this right: DD is saying that he is shocked KD JP are pleading guilty to assisting as DD himself did not think he was doing anything criminal, Thus DD is saying KD kept the truth from him, which is plausible as he hasn't seen a great deal of KD, slept there that often recently/night shifts etc.)

I think he's ther trainee manager in a store. 29, same age as KD, as theyre twins.

Demetrius said he was totally different to his brother and would spend most of his time in his room on his own watching films on his tablet.

Demetrius said he had no access to the shed and never went into the outbuilding.

He said: "It got to point because of the problems with Jaydene I bought a load of food and kept it in a drawer in my bedroom."

He added people would often come to the house at night.

On February 23rd Demetrius arrived at work at 1pm later in the day he phoned his brother to say he had had a row with Jaydene and was also talking about the sale of a moped.

At 10.19pm Karl sent a text to his brother saying "he is going to give it to you in instalments". Demetrius claimed the message referred to the sale of the bike.

On February 25th Demetrius received another message about the sale of his moped. He planned to give half of the £400 from the sale of the moped to Karl as "a nice gesture" for letting him stat at his home.

Ah, yes (twins)...TY

He did well for himself on stand:

Demetrius replied: "What's in there?" Says he would not be prepared to do it and did not do it. #BeckyWatts

Dean George, for Demetrius, asked: "If someone said to you move this item for 10k or 5k what would have been your reaction?

I think shocked that his brother would be stupid enough to put himself in a position where he was moving something dodgy at all. Saying first thing he'd have asked if he'd been asked was what's in the packages(because it had to be something dodgy to be paid 10k) .

Well isn't that convenient.
is there anyone on this case who is going to tell the truth?
I'm finding it very frustrating - admittedly I haven't followed the thread posts closely for a day or two

He's a longer write up about the text KD sent DD about getting money. Makes much more sense

Donovan Demetrius has emotionally denied playing any part in hiding Becky’s body and said he is “horrified” his brother did.

He told the jury: “Why would he put himself in that position?

“Who in their right mind would do something so animalistic, sickening? My heart goes out to her family at the end of the day.”

He adds he was not offered money to move Becky’s body and would not have done it even if he was.

Donovan Demetrius is pressed further on whether he knew Becky’s body parts were hidden in the garden shed.

He replies: “You must be mad. That’s not me.”

Dean George, defending Demetrius, then asks: “If someone said to you move this item for 10k or 5k what would have been your reaction?”

Demetrius replies: “What’s in there?” The defendant then adds he would not be prepared to go along with such a plan.

I posted a tweet earlier that didn't make sense as it was only the BIB, now with the question it makes perfect sense.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder if NM actually had 10k. (supposedly half was SH's)

Cheers

BIB - Now that sounds totally credible. I was wondering when one of the "assisters" would mention this.

Yes, but he would still know if he had heard SH shouting. It doesn't matter what it was about, or what he inferred from it. If he heard SH shouting, that would prove that she was awake and not sleeping all the way through the removal of the parcels.
He'd said she was "good looking woman" too according to the friends testimony so he would've had to have seen her too!

I think DD is saying, he himself would never do what KD did, i.e. storing stuff valued at £10k without knowing what it was. I suspect, once he found out what was stored, he was possibly asking himself how the heck KD hadn't twigged.

Asked about his brother's involvement in moving Becky he said: "I would love to ask Karl but I will probably never get the chance."

I would be all kinds of angry and distressed, having to sit next to the sc*m in the dock, waiting so long to have my say

Do they ask each of the defendants is they think the others are guilty? I don't mean "did NM kill BW" but would they, for example, ask KD if DD, JI or JP knew what was going on? Or if ALL the defendants stated (whether in questioning or in court) that DD knew nothing whatsoever would the jury get to know that?

  • #297
DD sounds completely innocent, I'm also shocked that he is the first person so far to show what appears to be genuine compassion towards BW and her family.

Difficult to tell from tweets but it seems DD was asked how he felt about KD moving body parts. Strange answers

Sam FM News ‏@samfmnews · 34 mins34 minutes ago
#BeckyWatts trial: How do you feel about the suggestion you knew he was moving Becky? DD - 'It’s not me. I’ve got a heart.'

Claire Hayhurst ‏@clairehayhurst · 34 mins34 minutes ago
When asked about the suggestion he knew, DD replied: "You must be mad. That's not me." Says he was not offered money to help. #beckywatts

I don't think they're strange answers. By "It's not me", I understand him to mean that it's not in his nature, it's not something he would ever do. I think the subtext is that had he known, he would have prevented it or reported it.

No. DD says he himself was not involved in any way.

He said he and SH had 5k each in ISAs and he was going to use that
