How believable is it that the internet search on James Ireland’s phone for a Disneyland Paris trip was made by Karl Demetrius? We know Karl has a phone, that’s how he conducted six phone conversations with Matthews while he was at work the night a van was later used to remove the dismembered body from Cotton Mill Lane. And wasn’t it on his own phone that Karl conducted text exchanges with Jaydene Parsons about the storage and about the money involved?

Do many people in Britain have a cell phone which can only make calls and send and receive texts but which doesn’t have internet access? I’m an American, and the only people I know who have and use such phones are much older folk who don’t want to deal with phone internet. (My Dad, for one.) I suppose there must be some people who use such phones because they are cheaper, but I’ve never met anyone under 40 with this type of cell phone.

Wouldn’t Karl Demetrius have been able to conduct such a search on his own phone?

I suppose it’s possible that Ireland at the time had a newer and better phone than Demetrius, so that his friend might have preferred using the Ireland phone. Faster internet connection? Bigger screen?

Also, I wonder if during the cross-examination of Ireland today the prosecution will ask Ireland where he was when all those six phone conversations between Matthews and Karl Demetrius took place. We know he wasn’t working up a sweat for his employer.
He may have free minutes/texts on his phone but data charges. It's quote expensive actually

So the sum total of the items moved from CML to Barton Court was
3 suitcases
1 black bin liner
1 blue box

and JI says it took them 2 trips from the van to the kitchen of the house in Barton Court with the items - which makes sense. One suitcase each is one trip, then 2 people carrying the box, the third with the bin liner.

I seriously dont get why they couldnt just use the car ? The box and 2 suitcases in the boot, the third suitcase and bin liner on back seat ( with NM who was presumably in the back ).
Seems a lot of extra time wasted, going back for a van - not to mention, further time wasted by NM not having everything ready at CML ( why didnt he stay behind to get things ready ? )

He says it could have been sent to a number of people and was part of general conversation, everybody was talking about

Paraphrasing from UK & Eire database for all crimes against children fb

JI had no idea what was in bags, thought he was moving NM's belongings for £20.

JI says he sent a Snap Chat to Jaydene Parsons saying "seeing statuses on Facebook, saying she’s been found”
I'm presuming that he new KD and JP quite well then to be snap chatting her

It could be that JI had an unlimited data phone plan and KD only had 250mb or something , so it wouldn't cost JI any extra to search online on his phone but it would cost KD.

Depends if they (NM and KD)are acting out that this isn't all arranged and that NM has just been chucked out for JI's benefit. THey know where they've agreed where to put the stuff but let JI think he's come up with the idea.

I had heard the story of him being chucked about before from Jaydene's sister on Uk & Eire page so I think it may well be that that line was spun to JI and JP, though KD might have known that it was something dodgier. He may have sanitised the story a bit to get JI and JP to agree with moving and storing.

ETA alternatively it couldve been the story they agreed to use if they were caught ( thinking it was stolen goods , pretending they thought he'd been thrown out by his GF)

JP must have known it wasnt just storing clothes and such for a mate, because she used the word hide in her texts with KD. ( see Jessie and Clio's posts on previous page ).

ETA ........... Yes, could have been a story they all agree to use if caught, but again, texts have caught them out.

Good point. I wonder if this was checked by police in order to verify the story.

NM apparently said the car wouldn't be big enough.

James Ireland tells the court how Nathan Matthews and Donovan Demetrius came from upstairs just once at Matthews’ home, carrying suitcases.

He says there was also a blue box which came from down stairs and a black bin liner.

Once they got to 9 Barton Court - where the body parts were discovered in a garden shed - it took two trips “tops” to transfer the items from the van into the kitchen.James Ireland tells the jury he was aware of Becky’s disappearance at the time he moved the cases and bags containing her body parts.

When asked if he was following coverage of the search, he replied he was keeping up to date “like most people in Bristol”.

The court is told Ireland sent a Snapchat message to Jaydene Parsons - who admits assisting an offender - saying he had seen Facebook statuses stating Becky had been found.

Ireland said this was part of general conversation as the search was something ‘everyone was talking about’.

I wouldn't find that odd if they'd got no room in the house. I wouldn't want cases and bags and a big box cluttering up my kitchen.

NM apparently said the car wouldn't be big enough.

Even then, two quick trips in the car would have done it - it was 80 metres distance. Still much quicker than going back for a van...but, I put this down to them just not thinking it through properly.

If they knew NM, and knew he spent a lot of his time at his mum's house, I'd find it odd that he wasn't storing his few 'suitcases of clothes' there. Or even just leaving them in his car.

I think they believed they were storing drugs or stolen property, but this story is to make them/him look totally innocent of all charges relating to assisting an offender. Stupid ploy, as they are making themselves appear (perhaps) more guilty than they are.

Just admit you thought you were hiding stolen goods or drugs and take the punishment for that!

Thanks sar2them1984. I've lived in the UK and sometimes forget how much more expensive it is for many things than America.

So are you suggesting that James Ireland had an inexpensive data plan? That would make sense.

  • #178
Even though it's not relevant anymore, I wonder what NM was planning.... the body parts couldn't remain in storage for long. Hire a van and take the lot in one trip or take them separately in his car and distribute them around the countryside? Or ask his mates for help again, costing more money?

ITV Becky Trial ‏@ITVBeckyTrial 15m15 minutes ago

JI says NM+KD came downstairs just the once, they were carrying suitcases. He says the blue box came from downstairs somewhere

He tells the court alongside three suitcases, they were carrying a black bin liner.

JI tells the court: "The items were quite light, the box had a bit of weight to it that was about it."

He adds: "It took two people but it was mainly because of the awkwardness of the box.

JI says they had to make two trips “tops” to transfer all the items from the van to the kitchen of 9 Barton Court

Minor point but there were 4 suitcases found in the shed. Black & grey, black, red with a split top and spotted. (this is excluding the rucksack)

Thank you for posting the tweets - I'm trying to prepare my daughters's room for painting whilst she is on a residential trip with school. I am behind where I need to be due to wasting Monday following SH's time in the witness box, so now need to ration my time online!

JI's phone was hooked up to work stereo system and wi-fi to search and play music - he took the pass code off. I can imagine in addition to finding music that other people went online using his phone for convenience/saving their mobile data
