Another thing - I discovered (only now) that Becky has a much older sister, by her Dad's side. Don't know if she has more sisters/brothers or not. Does anyone know? I only knew about Dan Watts...

I think it's been mentioned that her father has twin daughters. So two elder half-sisters.

I think Retri said either her cousin or a friend (I can't remember which, didn't screenshot the post) had twins with DG.

So many people ripped apart by this. When you consider the 6 defendants there must be dozens of parents, grandparents and siblings of those involved.

I've been following

Dr. Kendra Hatcher murder in Texas (now at a halt as the main suspect * flew to México) :(

Leah Martin's murder also in Texas :(

Terry Blanchette and Hailey Dunbar- Blanchette murders in Canada :(

* What's correct? 'Flew to Mexico' or 'Has flown to Mexico'?

has flown

Out of interest, how many cases do you all have on the go? Any other current British ones I've missed?

RSBM. This case has had me gripped from the start and is why I signed up to WS. I'm also following the Australian case of Khandalyce Pearce, the little girl who's remains were found in a suitcase and her mum, who was found 1300km away - really tragic and intriguing case. I dip into the Claudia Lawrence thread and threads about JonBenet Ramsay too.

Eta also the guy in London recently charged with murdering 4 young gay men initially thought to be suicides - Stephen Port.

has flown

"He has flown to Mexico" in that context suggests a fairly recent event. "He has flown to M this morning" would work.

You wouldn't say "he has flown to Mexico last week/month", you'd say "he flew".

(well you will pick me up on an apostrophe, lol!)

Hmmmm. Either way we got you, Beesknees!

I have a couple on the go. Tim Bosma (brought me to WS), Jenise Wright, Nathan O'Brien and his Grandparents in Calgary. I followed the Alice Gross case from London as well.

has flown

Thank you Tortoise. It appeared in my 'hear memory' that none of them was making sense. But now after Reading your answer no doubt 'has flown' sounds better :)

I do believe there is a lot more to find out about these two ;)

Oh yeah.

Once the Tori Stafford murder trial was finished we immediately knew that Michael Rafferty (killer) had been doing internet searches on his computer on "instructions on how to rape a child". This information could not be entered into evidence because the search warrant, although it covered his home and stuff, did not include his computer and apparently, in Canada, you MUST have a warrant specific to digital devices. The jury never knew that he had been trolling the internet trying to come up with his plan.

I am hoping (hoping may not be the correct word here), that there was more evidence and for whatever reason it could not be revealed.

I think what we know now, is the tip of the iceberg. I actually see a Karla Homolka/Paul Bernardo duo in the making with SH and NM. I really do. So there were either "other" things going on prior to Becky's murder, or they had plans of other things to come after.

Obviously MOO but nothing would surprise with these two.

The first criminal case ever that I followed was Madeleine McCann's because it was here in my country and it baffled me very much :( but at the time and also in recente years I didn't know WS.

My discovery of WS was due to Becky's case and I joined here imediatly as I so much liked this site.

I can't be here too much though. As far as Becky's trial is finished I must have a time away from here.

I involve myself very much in these cases, they depresse me, I feel very frustrated and frightned when I think of what some 'human' beings can do to others of their species.

During this trial, in the early days when the injuries of Becky were reported I had nightmares. One night involving my elder son and another night involving my little dog. It was awful, so, every so often I have to get away from this world of crimes and criminals.

The two cases that most impressed me since March when I found WS were this one of Becky and Stephanie Scott in Australia. Until today when I see a picture of Stephanie the tears come to my eyes. Perhaps because she was going to get married the weekend after she has been murdered. She was in her school preparing lessons for the teacher that was going to substitute her during her honeymoon and she was killed... She appeared to be so happy...

Stephanie Scott

Oh, how I wish Retribution had chosen to stay on! I missed the crummy things said that made her leave....

She gave insights into the family background that were dismissed as "gossip" by one or two posters. I do hope she returns after the case is concluded, as she will be able to speak more freely then. Those who don't value her input are under no obligation to read her posts.

Thank you!

Then it is 'flew'. She flew to Mexico almost a month ago. Its a woman...

DG owes it to Becky, to give a victim impact statement at sentencing, to set the record straight. His words against her (calling her rude and disrespectful) and that he never saw NM act inappropriately towards her, have been used by NM's defence to illustrate why NM had a problem with her.

SH's mother said that NM constantly made inappropriate sexual remarks, so I doubt if he curbed the habit when he was at DG's house. He more than likely made inappropriate remarks to Becky. It's no wonder she had anxiety problems, she probably never felt safe in her own house, as NM was there so often, jumping out and scaring her, and threatening to kill her.

She needed protection.

It's very unlikely that NM would be inappropriate towards BW in front of her father. I know he's dumb, but maybe not that dumb...

Don't see her dad as a strong character.

Unlikely that NM would be intimidated by him.

No, I don't think that DG would beat him up or anything, but I get the impression that NM & SH were quite the suck-ups to Darren and Anjie and would want to stay in their good books (remember the will). They were certainly sponging off then big-time staying round there 3 days a week, presumably being fed there, using their heating and showers too I bet.

Anjie for certain. Based on some of the comments NM made about his stepfather I'm not sure he made any effort as far as he was concerned. In fact his dislike of his step dad could be an additional motive for the murder.

I've no doubt that they took every opportunity to manipulate things so that someone else paid. SH being Anjie's registered carer seemed to me to be something to exploit the benefits system rather than any genuine desire to look after her. SH simply doesn't come across as the caring type.

No, it was Becky's brother Dan's birthday.

It will be his 21st next year, on the first anniversary of Becky's death. That will be a toughie :(

That poor young man. I hope he gets through this and finds some peace and happiness. Dan must have suffered so much and now his birthday is always going to be a terribly sad day.

Perhaps the fact that Becky had a new boyfriend (don't know if it was her first) had something to do with this incident, in NM's and SH's minds.

And I wonder if Becky's chats with SH about contraception and sex were instigated by SH prying - also part of this incident in some way. Doesn't sound as if Becky would have confided in SH of her own choice, she had at least one very close friend.

ETA - was SH's interest in Becky's developing sexuality a form of grooming?
