Perhaps it's just me, but I cant see why JP would be texting KD just to check if he had finished giving a pal a lift home.
I think they already knew, at this point, that they were going to store some dodgy stuff for NM. Proving it however, is another matter.

She may have worried about him being caught skiving off from work. A friend of mine used to do this occasionally, there would be two of them on the night shift with nothing much to do, and they would take it in turns to go home! I always felt it was a stupid risk to take as they would have been found out very easily.

My son is on the autistic spectrum and has ADD - he takes everything literally or, some would say black & white (not in the NM way!) so I can totally believe JI didn't question anything and did believe exactly what he was told.

If I tell my son "I'll be ready in 5 minutes" he'll be expecting me in exactly 300 seconds. Its that literal. I had to tell him that Father Christmas wasn't real recently (as I didn't want him being teased/bullied at high school) and he didn't believe me. He'd had almost 11 years of being told one thing, and he couldn't get his head around the idea that it was made up. He actually said "But that means you lied to me" and was very upset. If he is told something, he will believe it, no matter how implausible, as it wouldn't occur to him that anyone is anything other than 100% honest.
