Yes I've followed this since Becky was first reported missing. I guess it hit close to home, having my youngest sister only a few years older than Becky, and being the mother of twin girls. My heart truly breaks for Becky, and her family. Xx

My biggest fear is that they will appeal, and the family will have to live it all again.

They can't just appeal because they want to have another go. They have to win leave to appeal, which wouldn't be granted unless there were proper grounds for appeal.

Well, quite. Without wanting to sound too rude, ahem, most of them can hardly string a sentence together and hardly seem as though they represent the cream of the gene pool...

Quite a few posters have mentioned the loonies on FB. I 'm not a FBer at all, and only used it these weeks because of the live feed and I think BTW the "Admin" there did a really good job on reporting responsibly and accurately the events during trial.

Anyway to get back to the various posters' points about the more hysterical FB commenters there - TBH I just scroll by most of them. Occasionally mixed in between there are a few insightful and more knowledgeable comments.
Plus, even if some of those commenters aren't educated, I think it's always useful to have an impression of others' thoughts even if they are misinformed . I don't want WS crammed with inane comments, but when I read their on FB I don't really feel offended.

Reminds me of when my sister was expressing horror at the public banging on the side of a police van. For me, I just think, they are expressing anger and outrage, just cause they are doing it in a different way, does it really make them a lynch mob? Even police and security know it's just an expression. (Remember the NM van as he left court after his first appearance - they let the chubby lady and the man with the shopping bag have a bash on the sides of the van?)

Just an observation about the Facebook posts...the ones who do type coherently seem to not like comments from ppl who are not in their "click" or group.
Not exactly a warm and cozy atmosphere there either way.

It really brings home how awful the evidence was if even the judge was so moved by it. I can't even imagine how the jurors will get over the gory details they heard. Some of them will probably need counselling.

Personally I'm put off by comments like that and have to scroll by them because to me they're just a bit hypocritical...to be so deeply against the horrendous murder of a child but then in the same breath mention a particularly violent way in which you'd like to torture/kill the perpetrator! I think people who leave those comments get muddled between what is justice and what is revenge. I don't think that those kind of comments are useful or particularly respectful to the memory of Becky, really. I'm really getting on my high horse here, I know, haha.

Just reading the Guardian article and it sounds like Becky's dad believes SH was involved in the actual killing not just NM. He uses the word "they" rather than "he":

“When I close my eyes to sleep I see Becky’s death over and over again. I hear her cry and see her terror, and then her realisation they are not going to stop. I feel her heart racing and I am all too powerless to help her. Becky never stood a chance.”

Also Becky's mum's (TW) comment about having a bandage around her little wrist when they saw her to cover the marks from the dismemberment has gotten to me so much...so horrific and sad

Yes, an experienced judge is brought to tears... while SH shows no emotion.

How are you feeling about the sentences now, Skibs? Thought you were gonna blow a gasket earlier lol!

I've worked out SH could be eligible for parole in September 2023 and that feels too soon, though I also don't feel especially outraged (mulled wine is helping me...). As for NM, 33 years will do me, I doubt he'll leave alive somehow.

Ha me too re the calcs.....in the kitchen, cooking supper, pen and pad in hand, working out 8.5 years, minus almost 9 months.

Will she appeal ? what reason can she/her lawyer give ?
Would be interesting if she did and they added a few years on.

Does she have to admit guilt to get out after 8.5, or is it automatic if she has been well behaved ?

He hasn't shown any remorse what so ever! He would not have put that poor family through the pain of a trial if he had remorse the only tears NM and SH have cried have been for them.

Yes, they are a whole range of things including 'hypocritical", vengeful, misinformed, ranting, as someone else said - illiterate, but there's a whole gamut of opinion on there alongside that rich dollop of extreme views.

This will be controversial but I'll say it anyway : seeing them as I scroll down, they don't make me feel superior as I appreciate the subtler distinctions between me CWeaver saying" I want 30+ years for NM "and me posting this morning "Ah diddums NM, I have no sympathy for you as you rock in your chair. " .........therefore as AFAIconcerned I thus share similarities with them.

I'm sure someone will have already replied to this post by now, (I am working backwards through the posts.)

I interpreted that comment as - when the time comes and they are notified that SH is going through the parole review process , they will be communicating their feelings to the parole board. At the moment, in keeping with the dignified stance, they don't want to in any way criticise the Judge's sentences. IMO

Ah yes, I had forgotten that part. Wonderful. More good statements needed then to keep her safely inside.

Could return here only now. Rant over. My apologies to fellows and mods as I wrote here a rant (nothing too serious) in capital letters and font nº 6 :blushing: directed to the judge, which was imediately deleted by the mods. It was as far as I saw both verdicts. Thank you for the mods to have deleted it and my apologies again.

I don't know what would be needed for NM to do to get whole life! Perhaps he would need to coward and cruelly murder Becky and dismember her body?! But he did it! What was needed more? The crime was not too serious? The judge had tears in his eyes as it was reported, but he had better to be harder on them!

And what about miss hoare? As I read before switching off the computer after the sentencing, she will do only half the time - 8 1/2 years!! Is this right? Why? Why so little time for this crime?!

It appears the family is 'content' with the sentences? Well, what can they say the poor, poor persons? They are broken and perhaps with no strength for more. But this is not a sentence fo such a crime comited wth such depravity!!

Well, I have better to calm down...

Tonight will pass today's happenings to the one drive public folder and we'll have it all complet about the Trial for Becky Watts. I''ll do it till the end even being so frustrated but I'll do it...

kind,funny, loving, loyal and feisty(in the words of her Mum) sixteen years old girl I thank

you for all your work, time and the many 'pieces' of your own selves that you apported to this

BeesKnees ( or B of D ! ) have a huge, ginormous hug. The sentences do not sit well with me either, but as Wallace said earlier, had it not been for the text messages, SH might not have got more than a suspended sentence, so I am grateful they got her on something. And hopefully, when the 8.5 years is up, there will be good impact statements from Becky's family which will help to extend SHs time for the remainder of the 17 years.
As for NM, again I wished for more than 33 years. But somehow I dont think he will even make it that far, so in the end it will work out fine.

And dont worry about Font No6 - we all have those moments

I think there is tension between them because of Anjie it must be so hard for all of them. Was it ever known why Dan (Beckys brother)changed his name?

I thought maybe , for him, it would be a link with Becky.

As for Becky's mum. I find it totally understandable that there is huge tension because of NMs mother. It is not helped by AGs unwavering support and love for her son. I think she would have been better advised to keep quiet on that subject, visit in private and of course she has her feelings. It is just such an emotive case, that perhaps not sensible, at this time, to be so open.
After all, she still has a child, TW has only loss.
