What does that mean? And do you have a link? All I saw was the admin on the FB page say "Shauna has appealed her sentence"

It's also against the rules to tell other members how to behave, please don't tell us how to feel!

That's a bit strong, isn't it? Surely it's not against the rules to advise caution.

Frequently seems to be an automatic reaction to appeal for those found guilty, personally I think they've a feather in hell's chance.

An excellent Judge on their case, so I have confidence that he left nothing to chance.

Would like to know their grounds for appeal though out of curiosity.

I just read through the TOS and don't see anything either way on the topic.

I'm sorry if I took what you said the wrong way. I didn't read it as advising caution, I read it as you saying we can't be upset yet. I always thought telling others how to feel was personalising posts and against TOS. I am upset because the family is upset. Whether the appeals are granted or not they are still being put through further distress.

I've had an awful week, my mums in the hospital. If you all feel I'm out of line then I accept that and I'll step away. I'm very sorry if you thought I came across too strong, I really didn't mean to, I thought I'd asked politely.

I didn't say you can't be upset, I said there was no need to upset ourselves since it's not certain there will actually be an appeal.
It should come as no surprise that these two are trying it on, most of them do. If leave to appeal is granted, then we will be justified in feeling outraged and upset. But it may never come to that. As my gran used to say, there's no sense in meeting trouble halfway.

Sorry about your mother, I hope all turns out well for her.

Skibs - have a ginormous hug x a difficult time for you, hope things improve for your mum

FWIW, I read that post the same way you did, although having read the subsequent post I can see now what the other poster meant.

Oh and as for those two pieces of sc*m ........ would it be too much to hope, if they are given leave to appeal, that their sentences could be doubled on the back of the appeal

Well, I am surprised. I even said "Let's wait" clearly meaning all of us. I can't for the life of me see how that could be misinterpreted.
I certainly don't think I deserved to get my head bitten off. :(

"The other poster" :(

She can't get lost, she's Mrs Map....:worldmap:

Skibs, have you looked at Adrian Lynch (Jersey UK) thread yet? If you need to occupy yourself with map making knock yourself out! Hope your mum is ok. Keep your pecker up x

I'm not surprised that they appealed. I would expect nothing less.

I did not bite your head off, is that how you feel? I'm so sorry if so, I do not want YOU to be upset! It's a miss understanding. I hold no hard feelings I hope you don't either. We're all in this together. WS family!

sometimes it's easy on here to get misunderstood :fence: or sound angry when your just making a point or theory - I expect this case has a lot of emotions around with it especially in this country

I am the one who can't say what I think about this appeal or I'll get booted out of here...:furious::badmood::bigfight::devil:

So I only say good evening you all and we'll be here to be assured that their time in prision will be increased after the bl**dy appeal!

Skibaboo, I wish your mother the best :)

If you pleaded not guilty
You can appeal against your conviction or your sentence, or both.

You can normally only appeal if:

something went ‘wrong’ at the trial - eg if an important court procedure wasn’t followed properly
there’s new evidence - like a witness who wasn’t at the original trial (this is for appeals against a conviction only)
https://www.gov.uk/appeal-against-sentence-conviction/crown-court-verdict

I wonder which of those two options are being used as grounds to appeal?

Personally, I think the judge was pretty lenient with his sentencing.

I kind of expected SH to appeal as was has she got to lose by trying?

NM on the other hand, I thought maybe the thought of how an appeal might affect his mother and her health might stop him... obviously not!

I wonder if NM got word that SH was appealing and decided he would too. Hence his being late

P.S. Skibs and Cherwell, you're both valued members of the forum and I hope you both stick around .

Sending positive thoughts and get well wishes for your mother Skibs

If he missed the deadline he should be told they aren't accepting his paperwork. Wonder if there was a last minute change of heart? I'm not surprised that she is wanting to appeal her conviction. Despite how holey her story was, she did maintain her innocence right through to sentencing. Accepting the verdict would just seem like an admission of guilt. Was really hoping we'd heard the last of these two! Another kick in the teeth for Becky's family right before their first Christmas without her.

Skibs, hope your Mum is okay! Don't go anywhere - it won't be the same without you and your maps!!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. My mum had a stroke in 09, she's paralysed and I care for her. They took her into the hospital on Monday because she was confused, which is nothing new. But her GP suspected another Stoke. Just found out today it wasn't, she's fine and was just a little dehydrated. A bit of a scare but she's ok and coming home tomorrow.

The hospital is what rattles me. I was in there often since I was a kid, bad memories and just the smell makes me anxious. I'll admit I'm on edge and reacted to Cherwells post unlike I normally would. I feel like I caused an unnecessary drama, and drew attention away from the topic at hand. I'm a wee bit embarrassed my 5,000th post had to include an apology on my behalf!!

It's all good In the hood :)

Ok found it

The couple convicted of killing Becky Watts say they will appeal against their convictions and sentences.
Becky's step-brother, Nathan Matthews, 28, was convicted of her murder and his girlfriend Shauna Hoare was convicted of manslaughter. They were each jailed.
Both have applied for leave to appeal.
