A fatal lie?

SH first interview with police 26th Feb -

SH - "Got in, heard music upstairs, assumed Becky had been in then. I went into the kitchen to get a cigarette and went to go outside to have a cigarette. Um probably was about 15 - 20 minutes then we came back up, I went into the kitchen to get a drink I think it was and wash my hands, then I heard the front door slam. Um carried on washing my hands went into the living room..."

Asked to clarify and go back to when she came into the kitchen -

SH - "I heard the door slam, front door, um again I didn't look at the time or think anything of it so I didn't really kind of like 'ooh what was that?' it was just the door, so Becky would've gone out."

Asked "and immediately before the sound of the door slamming what could you hear then?"

SH- "Um I think it was just CBeebies to be honest, um, No! I heard stomping...."

Another clarification -

SH - "I was in front of Nathan and I had my back to him and I went straight to the kitchen...I could vaguely hear her music when I was in the garden. I went into the kitchen and I washed my hands and then I heard the door slam and I think I got a glass of water."

So, SH arrives with their child and takes her straight out into the garden (in the rain to have a ciggie and feed the rabbits). NM meanwhile gets his kidnap kit from the car and goes straight upstairs to deal with Becky. 15-20 minutes later SH comes back in to the kitchen [with child], washes her hands, hears CBeebies on the TV and hears NM stomping down the stairs and (presumably having already exited once through the front door with Becky in a bag, opened the boot of the car, placed bag inside the boot and retrieved his 2nd bag from upstairs) after exiting the house to place 2nd bag in the boot, hears him coming back in and slamming the front door. WHO PUT THE CBEEBIES ON TV FOR THE CHILD? The child was outside with SH in the garden and Nathan was upstairs the whole time until SH heard the door slam.

Sorry but you're wrong.

In his written statement of confession he says

"Upon entering the property we went to the front room. A few minutes after arriving Shauna said she wanted a cigarette and went into the garden"

NM could have put it on quickly before going upstairs in an attempt to muffle any sound he was going to make?

Is there a written Statement from SH? To compare both side by side would be easier than to and fro-ing from her video. And trying to replay the scene to get the log. TIA

Another problem for SH?

"She explained that Matthews – who admits killing Becky but denies her murder - had first telephoned his mother to see if Becky would be home to let them in or whether she could leave a spare key outside under a bin."

Taken from SH interview 26th Feb - "The door was locked so obviously we used the key from under the recycling bin."

Tell me, how does a person know a door is locked when they are outside the house? Also, she contradicts herself. She has already said the key was needed if Becky wasn't there to let them in. They don't get the key because Becky is upstairs playing her music and can't hear them knocking or ringing the bell, they get it because the "door is locked".

More like they wanted to surprise Becky with an ambush.

I must not understand your question correctly, a person can tell a door is locked when they're outside the house because when they try to open the door it doesn't open?

True, but I don't think it likely if he had such a pressing need to achieve a complicated kidnap while SH was only going to be outside for a cigarette which takes 10 minutes max. Also although he said he went into the living room I'm not aware that he has said he put on the TV before going upstairs.

My Vertigo is definitely playing up tonight. As I am having serious issues in making sense of things. Ohh I so wished the court had listed witnesses chronologically.
As I too didn't quite get the gist of knowing if a door was locked if you were outside.
If I'm home alone I always lock myself in. BW wouldn't of heard their arrival any case with music blaring. IMO

Hi folks, a few posts have been removed. Please remember to address the post and not your fellow poster, that's not how we roll here.

I do want to thank all for providing links when posting facts.

Yes I always lock myself in too, and after a night of reading websleuths and watching crime documentaries I will check the door is definitely locked multiple times!

I don't see much problem with the points raised above.

The TV being on doesn't prove anything. Some people turn the TV on as automatically as they switch on a light in a dark room.

Most likely the door had a Yale-type lock, so it can only be opened without a key from the inside.

Missing out small irrelevant details won't convict anybody, as it's natural not to remember everything in perfect detail.

Any front door I've ever had can't just be opened from the street without a key. Otherwise anyone could walk in at any time. That's why we have keys to open the door. But to anyone outside, the door is just shut and can't be pushed open, not locked or unlocked. It can only be opened from the inside without a key.

What does NM's statement have to do with SH's statement to the police about her version?

To the best of my knowledge and memory - she doesn't state as fact that neither of them went into the front room.

It's my own personal experience that 2 year olds are more than able to put on a TV too and channel hop and probably set the tv box to series link record their favourite show :)

ETA - we have to remember that any info we're getting from court by way of statements or transcripts it just a sound bite, not everything in its entirety and the videos we've seen of Shauna's were edited to cut bits out, I would imagine for the anonymity purposes.

Lol Mrazda71 my 2 year old grandbaby can find her way round my tv yo her favourite channels in a blink of an eye. And get to her games on my cell also. Once I've locked all other apps off. So you're all safe here. She won't be messaging on my behalf 😁

Ah I see what you mean. My parents home has a handle on the outside of the front door, and so does my flat so I'm used to just being able to leave it unlocked to pop outside quickly and open it from the outside without keys.

I'm not suggesting it will convict anybody. but the devil is usually found in the detail and it is small details like this that show whether a person who may be lying has not thought through their version completely before speaking, and it may not tie in with another person's version. I raised it because SH was clear she went straight to the kitchen and outside with the child and now I see Nathan says SH didn't go straight outside, she went into the lounge with him.

Perhaps they didn't get their stories quite so straight as they thought they had.

got there :)

I doubt Anjie would have gone out and left the door unlocked is what I mean.

I really don't see what you're getting at here. A door that can't be opened without a key is effectively locked. If it was a Yale-type lock, it could have been left "on the latch" so that an expected visitor could push it open. This wasn't the case, so they retrieved the key that had been left for them. I don't see any contradiction here.
