I know a fair bit about ASD. I suspect that he is on the spectrum and that he suffers from paranoia. I don't know if this will get him off the hook at all, but he suffers from something.
I am confused now.

Has it been mentioned anywhere if NM is autistic?

Only have seen poss autism used in relation to JI:

<snip>

The witness said that on occasion Ireland had asked him for some help - making it clear that he had difficulty with reading and writing and needed help using the internet. He also told the court he had some difficulty with his speech. The defence asked if he knew that these difficulties were in part caused by his suffering from ADHD or autism.

So ive watched both links to the video now...not sure what to make of it seeing him in person now. I thought that I would immediately have a disdain towards him. But actually I felt a bit of pity for him...don't hang me for that...but I get the impression that he's taking the fall in part. I don't know, I think he is genuinely upset at points...I can't put my finger on it but I didn't feel towards him what I thought I would

I'm glad this wasn't just me who felt a bit sorry for him :shame:

Hmm I work with people on the autistic spectrum and have done for a number of years..Yes he does display some traits but not to a debilitating level and certainly not to a level which would lessen or excuse what he did. He functioned very well on a daily level - held down a job, drove, had a family - something a lot of people on the spectrum struggle with.

Of course, I'm not insinuating his actions are excusable, it was just some people were laughing at him stabbing himself with a fork etc, but it could be that he has some issues.
On the surface I would appear to be very high functioning day-to-day, but I have long help personal suspicions that I'm autistic. I just do things and approach things differently to others and it can lead to tension in my relationships with others.

He's a hoarder! He WOULD buy more bags etc!

S - 'Ere Nathan, what you buyin more bin bags for?'
N - 'Cause these bags look stronger than them others love and I do have a lot a lot a lotta stuff to clear out'
S - 'Oh okay then' ...

How? Why would Shauna notice that he'd filled his old hoarded suitcases with a chopped up body? When your house is full of THAT much stuff, you don't notice things any more.

Also, the reason we're all here is that we are nosy, inquisitive, questioning, observant, half intelligent people ... not everyone thinks like we do! Just because YOU think YOU would notice all these little things and immediately realise your fella had bumped off his step sister, doesn't mean your average Joe/Jane would.

Shauna's dna on a bag knot isn't enough proof for me that she did anything - bags don't come clinically sterile wrapped.
If this bag was taken downstairs and put somewhere, she could've picked it up and moved it (if there's a knotted bin bag, I'd shove my fingers through the knot to pick it up) or maybe she pulled a bag from the roll for her own rubbish ...

My other ideas of deception DO happen while the 2 people are together!

It wasn't a "body shaped bag" was it!

It matters not one bit to me whether she ultimately is convicted or not, I'm not about to start having 'Free Shauna' T-shirts printed ... I'm just trying to assumed she's innocent UNTIL I hear the BOOM - there's your beyond reasonable doubt evidence.

ETA - Just because Nathan tells us he has Fibro doesn't mean he actually has fibro and even if at some point a Dr has said 'ooh I think you might have fibro' it doesn't necessarily mean that in the heat of the moment, when necessity calls, and adrenalin kicks in, that he couldn't do what needs to be done.

If we are going to compare SH not knowing to a spouse not knowing about an affair, then the affair would have to include the husband/boyfriend bringing
home another woman, going into another room with her alone for hours, then banging the headboard against the wall. We can't compare it to an affair
where the spouse slinks and sneaks around.

Not sure about getting him off the hook but did a bit of go ogling and came across this which talks a bit about ASD diagnosis and law as well as joint enterprise..interesting

In NM'S full confession. He states he believes he has mental issues ect. Which was the reason for him giving his Statement in writing via his Solicitor.

Yes - somehow I don't think they're going to go down that route having seen all the evidence up to now. I think he's just going to stick to the I didn't mean to but I agree several people have alluded to mental health problems. Not sure about the TA but I know the Army proper have psych evaluations as part of their sign up procedure

Seems like NM may suffer more from impulse control & anger management issues than anything else (Other than his hoarding disorder.).

His confession is certainly rich re Becky leaving those clothes & objects on the floor (among other reasons he gives) which propelled him to plan & attempt to carry out such a punishment in order to teach a 16 yo a lesson about becoming "more appreciative of life"

Quick question - why would need to fix pipes in the bathroom when they live in social housing. It would be classed as an emergency repair as it is their only toilet... moot point but a holey story again

Probably didn't want anybody coming into their hovel.

His own description of his personal struggle between his Metrosexual ("basically in touch with my feminine side...") & Neanderthal Selves sounds more like impulse control issues. And appears that he has admitted that he is completely aware of having such problems.

Issues around controlling his deep seated rage

I found seeing Nathan on video very interesting.

He comes across as quite immature emotionally so although in birth years he may be 28, he thinks, behaves etc like someone much younger ...

I also think there is something particular about boys that are 'Granny reared' or raised by much older parents.

Just a couple of completely irrelevant things:

One, I am relieved there is no court tomorrow because I just must get away from this lap top for a few hours. :banghead:

Secondly, I hope the police never look at what I've been searching on said lap top. :scared:

Thirdly, I am so relieved I'm not the only one who felt pity watching NM's video. :shame:

And finally, thanks everyone here for all the updates and comments. :loveyou:

I'm not at all 'directly' comparing this situation with a cheating spouse but yes, sometimes people are brazen enough to do it (cheat) right in front of your face! Literally!

They don't all sneak around and even if they do initially after a while of getting away with it they become cocky about it and also take risks just to up the thrill.

Just watched the video for the first time. Wow - it's strange. It's like he really, honestly believes his justification for his kidnapping plot. He reminds me of a small child who has done something wrong like push their friend or eating someone else's sweets - the way he won't look anywhere except down and is trying to justify his actions, but ultimately knows they are unjustifiable. There's a certain stubbornness about him though - it's as though he won't admit that he is in the wrong.

.

Even prior to seeing the video I got this impression. Particularly with the things that we know were said about Becky. It's almost like he couldn't differentiate between him as an adult and her as a child.

To me, he appears to be stuck somewhere in early adolescence. MAY also account for his sexual interest in young teen girls if true

I'm not sure if the psych evaluations are the same they give in the US, but my son in law fooled the people doing the evaluation, he has fooled a lot of people. He even bragged to me how he fooled them, and how easy. He has a several issues, several diagnosis, and thinks he is the smartest person ever. I also felt kind of sorry for NM, and I felt guilty about it, look what he all did. My son in law, I would never feel sorry for him in a million years. I'm really have mixed emotions on all this.
