AND didn't we see sometime yesterday that 22 people were killed in the compound? Well, if 22 were killed and there were only 4 adult males - then who were the 18 others killed? Now we know there was one woman killed - ok - what about the 17 others?

We don't like to fess up to killing kids - even though the world knows how these radical children act. I've heard first hand accounts about kids in Iraq who would be sweet and innocent to our soliders and once close - getting the candy they would give out - they would whip out a gun from under their clothes!!!

I would like to see an accounting of all killed at the compound because the numbers are not lining up here.

Per one of the links a couple of pages back, 22 was the total number of people in the compound, not the number of fatalities.

The same link claims a woman with Bin Laden was shot in the leg, not killed, as earlier reported.

As recently as last night (Monday), some TV news outlets were claiming this woman was one of OBL's wives (one source had said his youngest), and yet others were saying she was not. It's all still quite murky. Hoping for an official statement soon, which I personally consider more important than any gruesome photos or videos.

  • #763
Ok - it has been reported that the woman shot in the leg was his wife.

Have you seen a total number of people killed?

  • #764
Early reports said 5 killed including OBL, his son, the courier and his brother, plus a female who was used as a human shield. I've not heard otherwise since but easily could have missed any contradictory count in the MSM.

Several of my Facebook friends posted a variation of the following quotation, allegedly from Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., the great champion of civil rights.

Their posts said:

‎"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy." - Martin Luther King Jr.

Dozens of people immediately "liked" this quotation on Facebook.

There's just one problem: The quote is a fake.

Fake Martin Luther King Jr. quote goes viral on the Internet
Honestly, it doesn't matter to me one wit who said it, it's the contents I agree with.

Fake quote.

This is MLK Jr.'s quote.
The rest was made up.

"Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.

Usama was not a person that would have responded to love any other way than plotting more death to Israelis and Americans. We are well rid of him.

Update from CNN...
Bin Laden was unarmed when killed, White House says

http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/05/03/bin.laden.dead/index.html?hpt=T1&iref=BN1

Abbottabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- Osama bin Laden was not armed but did put up resistance when U.S. forces entered the compound he was in, then killed him, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Tuesday.

Providing new details of the events that transpired early Monday in Pakistan, Carney said U.S. Navy SEALs went floor-to-floor clearing the three-story compound where bin Laden's family lived along with others.

And here's the writer's next line:

" "Celebrating" the killing of any member of our species -- for example, by chanting "USA! USA!" and singing "The Star Spangled Banner" outside the White House or jubilantly demonstrating in the streets -- is a violation of human dignity."

As far as I'm concerned, simply another ivory tower ideologue wagging her finger at me, telling me how I should feel, how I should respond, blah, blah and blah, to the death of one of the most evil individuals of modern times.

Instead of viewing the spontaneous gatherings as a group of individuals, many-our next generation of leaders, who did not know each other, who hold different ideologies, most-who demonstrated restraint and civility, most-who feel a mixture of many emotions to the killing of the evil, murderous, terrorist Osama bin Laden, I am now told that to chant, "USA! USA!" and to sing my country's national anthem "is a violation of human dignity?"

Outrageous.

So instead of seizing an opportunity to praise the spirit of bipartisanship, the author gently reprimands and admonishes me into behaving "appropriately" and how to celebrate my feelings "appropriately."

Hell, you would think throngs of Americans were burning effigies of the murderous leader in Times Square and at Ground Zero, or demanded his lifeless body be released to the public and dragged through the streets of my city to be ripped apart limb by limb.

I do respect everyone's right to their own opinion. Hell, I don't even believe in the death penalty. Hell, I believe in peace, love and non-violence, too. I am dignified. I mourn the deaths of thousands. And I mourn the loss of my children's feelings of security to move freely around their hometown, their city, without fear for their lives and safety. I mourn the loss of their innocence.

I am glad. I am sorrowful. I am happy. I am terrified. I feel many things. And I am very pleased by the way the mission was carried out. The good psychologist should know by now that life is more gray than black and white. Human beings are deeper and more complex.

If a few are celebrating, leave them alone. Stop contributing to the drama and to the further hatred of the US abroad and self-loathing at home. (Not directed at Glow.) He needed to go. OBL was not a common murderer. OBL was not even in the category of wicked evil serial killer. And I support life for them. I do not believe in revenge.

Once every so often, an individual comes along who is not worthy of life and must be removed.

OBL was that rare individual. I celebrate and continue to mourn.

All, of course, my opinion and feelings only.

BBM In my heart, I would have loved nothing less, but my head says it would be wrong....sometimes it just makes more sense to go with your head. imo

I agree with Linda. I certainly understand and share the relief that OBL is no longer part of the terrorist equation, either as a planner or as a living symbol. (ETA and God forgive me, but I am greatly thankful we won't have to listen to years of his nonsense over the course of a public trial.)

But we demean ourselves when we cheer the killing of anyone.

Yeah, I know: "they" do it. But we're supposed to be better than them.

Exactly! I think most of us are better. I see nothing wrong with feeling a deep sense of satisfaction....I'm still feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

Here's what I think happened: He was using his wife as a shield, so one of the SEALS shot her deliberately in the ankle to cause her to fall, but not kill her, and when she fell, another SEAL shot Osama.

I've been traveling today, checking in occassionally with radio & CNN, so the latest I know is that the White House is deciding whether or not to release photos. I would love to see video of the whole mission, shoot, just put it on pay-per-view. Let us see the precision training our military elite has achieved.

AQ showed no respect for the bodies of innocents they assassinated through the years.

If there was only one frame to see, I would choose the moment BEFORE he was shot, when he knew "this is it". On 9/11, how many people never saw the end was coming. Worse yet, how many did know, there was no way out?

I agree with you showing the beheading of American reporters and innocent citizens on t.v., dragging American soldiers through the streets, putting down candy that is attached to a bomb to blow off the limbs of their own children , the murder, rape and kidnapping of their own citizens, and the final straw taking planes with innocent children, men and women and crashing it into the buildings that were a symbol of our countries working class and the people who employed them is enough for me. I'm gonna sing as loud as I can, I'm going to dance in the streets, I will celebrate the death of Osama Bin Laden every May 1st for the rest of my life. I even think it should be a national holiday. I was glad to see those young students our next generation come out and celebrate and able to say we are free of this monster. Why should we show any respect for someone who acts like he is a member of Satans cabinet. He is where he belongs at the bottom of the ocean with all the bottom feeders. Lift your head up high, we are Americans and nobody is going to come over here and kill our innocent people and expect us to say oh that is o.k. I'm just going to ignore you and you will go away. The message I want to send is touch one hair on an Americans head and we will hunt you down, bomb your house, take away your ears, then your eyes then your head. I think it makes our soldiers feel good to know that they are out there fighting for us and we appreciate it everyday every minute. I can't thank them enough for putting their life on the line so I can sleep at night knowing they are watching my back.

-The latest on one of bin Laden's wives who was in the same room with him is that she was shot in the leg on the third floor when she "rushed" the assaulter (no mention of her shielding him or being used as a shield by him):

SNIPPED
“In the room with Bin Laden, a woman – Bin Laden’s wife – rushed the U.S. assaulter and was shot in the leg but not killed,” the brief statement said. “Bin Laden was then shot and killed. He was not armed.”

-The latest on the woman who was killed (w/the two brothers/couriers - who were also on the first floor) by cross-fire is that she was on the first floor and was part of another family:

SNIPPED
...the narrative released Tuesday by Mr. Carney suggested that the woman who died in the raid was part of another family living at the compound. The narrative says that woman was shot and killed on the first floor, not the third floor, where Bin Laden was found and killed.

“On the first floor of Bin Laden’s building, two Al Qaeda couriers were killed along with a woman who was killed in cross-fire,” Mr. Carney said. “Bin Laden and his family were found on the second and third floor of the building...

The reports are still sketchy, but that's my impression, too, DK.

LOL no kidding Krk--touche my friend :D. As I said I just thought it was amusing. Wasn't laughing at him. As a matter of fact I felt very proud of him at that moment.

In fact I did think he was a bit happy with himself and he has every right to think so if indeed he is/was. He proved me wrong, I should have given him more credit when I cast my vote in the last elections for pres. :)

reminded me of this quote:

Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them (shakespeare)

Oh, I knew you were just amused and not being highly critical. As was I in my response to you! Point is, it is very difficult to avoid the use of "I" in a majority of situations.

Obama may have been happy with himself, and I'm just fine with that. More likely, though, he was just high on the fact that the mission went as planned, with no American or Pakistani civilian casualties.

I am convinced that many Americans are afraid of greatness. I am not calling Obama "great" at this point, but I see his potential now as much as I did when I voted for him (much to the horror of all my friends and family).

The reports are still sketchy, but that's my impression, too, DK.

On ABC News they just reported that the wife voluntarily jumped in front of him and made a threatening gesture of some sort, and that's when they shot her in the ankle and exposed him to gunfire. Very impressive self restraint and accuracy. (Imagine trying to shoot someone in the ankle who may be moving and in the dark using only night vision!)

Watching JVM - she's got video of the raid - was just showing some of it - can't seem to find it on the net though

ETA: She only showed a few seconds of it - said she just got off the phone with the president of CNN and he was the one who had it. Now, not talking about it at all. I saw it - I know I did - lol.

Also, banner on the screen is saying there were now 79 Navy Seal commandos w/ weapons and night-vision goggles

IMO, of course BO and the WH inner circle/national security team know exactly what occurred. Obviously, a delicate situation in how to present it to the world. Personally, I have never believed the woman was used as a shield version. Personally, I have never believed there was an extended shoot-out. I don't even believe OBL was about to pull out a weapon.

Too tidy for me. I believe they went in with the intent to kill (No Trials) and collect intelligence, but wished to spare as many women and children as possible. And I say, well done.

SNIPPED

As they swept through the property, they handcuffed those they encountered with plastic zip ties and pressed on in pursuit of their target, code-named Geronimo. Many SEAL team members carry helmet-mounted cameras, but the video beamed back to Washington did not show the fateful showdown with bin Laden, officials said.

Some other "corrections" by the WH today:

-OBL's son Hamza, not Khalid, was killed.
-Wife of Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti (courier/1 of the brothers/OBL's trusted aide) was killed in crossfire.

SNIPPED

That was one of many official details that have changed in the two days since bin Laden was killed. The White House misidentified which of bin Laden's sons was killed — it was Hamza, not Khalid. Officials incorrectly said bin Laden's wife died in gunfire while serving as his human shield. That was actually bin Laden's aide's wife, and she was just caught in cross fire, the White House said Tuesday.

The "International Community" can kiss my squirrel.

Why are we always so friggin' special we can't even stop and consider the views of the international community?

After all, other countries have been the targets of far more Al Quaeda attacks than we have; and, between terrorist attacks and "collateral damage" from our counterterrorism efforts, have lost hundreds of times as many people killed as we have.

Isn't it possible somebody out there has a little perspective from which we might learn something?

Ok - now I give up. New banner on the screen says 20-25 Nacy Seal Commandos w/weapons and night-vision goggles.

As for my above post. It happened in the very beginning of her show. She showed about 15 - 20 seconds. It was 3 guys - with night vision - clearing a room. There was no gunfire but they were holding weapons. Then it was gone.

I'm wondering if they shouldn't have shown that at all because now there hasn't been another word about it.

They just said the the CIA announced that it will release the photo - but didn't say when.

I apologize about my first post - I was just so stunned to see that footage. I don't know if it was real - but it sure looked like it and it was very very very quick.
