I have ann honest questionn about gun conntro. If (god forbid) guns are banned in USA (hypothetical) how will that work? We rely on the honor system tthat everyone who has a gun just turns them in? I will never get rid of my gun as long as criminals have them. and there is no way, IMO, to assure anyonne they don't have them. MOO

I don't know that we would ever ban them completely, nor that we really should. However, we can start with harsher penalties when guns are used while committing crimes, and definitely require some sort of punishment if your gun is used in a crime (say it was stolen or you sold it, and it's used for murder, you're held financially responsible. hit people in their pockets and they respond). I don't have all the answers, but I do know the system as we have it now isn't working. JMO

Simple solution, quit demonizing guns and promote self protection.

My daughter was in the girl scouts, she doesn't know the first thing about Samoa's.

Guns are not the main problem, but easy access to guns when the general population hasn't the first clue how to properly handle one is.

And start with ending easy access to children and toddlers. Thread after thread about kids finding guns and killing each other. Completely 100% preventable.

Again, don't demonize guns and educate people in the use and safety of guns and the problem will gradually go away. Guns are such a large part of our country that instead of treating them like taboo we should incorporate a gun program in our schools. We can give condoms to 11year olds in school but heaven forbid we have gun safety classes. Some of you will think that promotes the use of guns and I say that same argument can be used for giving 6th graders access to condoms. To me, the safer alternative of the two would be gun awareness classes.

I take it you mean parents that left the gun out for kid to take. If parents and children were take proper gun safety and an introduction to the weapons classes this problem would be solved.

Right. Except they don't, and toddlers end up shooting people - 13 toddlers have killed themselves, 18 have injured themselves, 10 have injured other people, and 2 have killed other people in 2015. It's ridiculous. No excuse.

BBM: How is a three-year-old supposed to learn proper gun safety?

That is back on the parents not knowing proper gun safety rules.

Which goes back to exactly what Tawny said, and which, IMO, is why a little gun control combined with a little training could only be a good thing. Others disagree, and doing things their way is how we get to toddlers killing themselves, and 27 people shot and killed on Christmas Day.

It's really about parents that shouldn't be. The type that lets the child drown, get out of their sight and abducted, backed over in the driveway, etc, etc.

We could adopt the "gun" laws Canada has and be strip searched like Jessie Sansone in Waterloo when his daughter drew a picture of a gun on a piece of paper in class.

But what the heck the police said they were sorry........

How about we pass laws that require married folk to go thru a process that will exclude the above type people from marrying or having children in their possession, after all they could just get a little marriage control/children control training and that would be a good thing right?

Others would disagree but we would just keep having kids backed over, drowned and abducted.

Gun fatalities per 100,000 per year:

Canada - 2.2
United States - 10.64

We do not keep records the same way. If a police officer shoots a person it is counted as a gun death, if a homeowner shoots an intruder it is counted also.

We already have more than a little bit of gun control, what we don't have is more gun education. Your post is a very circuitous way of saying that all that disagree with you are responsible for the deaths of children. Case by case you can make an argument that something else led to the death of all 27 besides guns.

If you would like to link where you got these numbers, people can scroll over and see that suicides acct for 6.70 of the 10.64. Also the 3.5 INCLUDES justifiable homicides. Also it should be expected our number to be higher because we have more cities with denser populations. Don't worry I will link the numbers for you.
