A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again," Trump said in the post. "I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will."

"However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?" Trump wrote, referring to the killings of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other leaders, although it's unclear what the full impact of their deaths has been on Iran's government.

"At this moment, it seems that Trump himself holds the key to de-escalating tensions. The question is whether he will back down again, or this time make good on his threats and put the Iranian regime under pressure with harsh military means—with potentially severe consequences for the population. The coming hours will prove crucial."

"In the southern port city of Bushehr, home to Iran's only nuclear power plant, 180,000 iodine tablets have been distributed among residents as part of a crisis preparedness plan.

The distribution initially focused on the areas surrounding the nuclear power plant and was later expanded to the entire city. The tablets are available through all Bushehr health centers and are intended for use in the event of possible radiological exposure."

"The "hardened rhetoric" used by the American president pushes a solution in the Middle East "further out of sight."
...

"Attackling civilian infrastructure does not fall within the framework of international law," says Jetten. Threatening to do so is "not helpful," but the Prime Minister emphasizes that the threats have not (yet) been carried out."
...

Should it come to the point where civilian infrastructure is attacked by the US or Israel, the Netherlands will condemn it. The UN and the EU stated yesterday that such attacks are illegal."

Acting CISA Director Nick Andersen told reporters last month that CISA had “not seen a rise in threat actor activity” linked to Iran since the war began, but that the agency was working with industry to track the threat.

Iranian hackers are exploiting cyber vulnerabilities in key software systems at U.S. water and energy providers, according to a new advisory released by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency on Tuesday.

The guidance warns that Iran-linked hackers are targeting internet-connected programmable logic controllers. These are industrial computers used to control and run critical infrastructure networks across the nation.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard warned it would “deprive the U.S. and its allies of the region’s oil and gas for years” if Trump follows through with his threats. Officials called on young people to form human chains to protect power plants.

"The extremely threatening language used by US President Trump in recent days is causing concern among many Americans. That is what US correspondent Thomas De Graeve said on Terzake. "We have even reached a point where journalists are asking the White House whether Trump is considering a nuclear option. That indicates the seriousness of the situation. Many people here are worried."

As a result, there is also increasing talk in Washington about removing the president from office. Either through impeachment proceedings or via the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, which stipulates that a president can be removed from office if he or she is no longer physically or mentally fit to perform the job. "There are people here who say: maybe we should read that amendment carefully."

"UN Secretary-General António Guterres is "very concerned" about the remarks made by US President Donald Trump. This is according to his spokesman Stéphane Dujarric.

"The Secretary-General is very concerned by the statements we heard yesterday and this morning (...) suggesting that an entire people or civilization is at risk of suffering the consequences of political or military decisions," said Dujarric.

No military objective can justify the massive destruction of infrastructure, nor the deliberate infliction of such suffering on the civilian population."

"Trump's threats are implausible and ineffective, he believes. "His war rhetoric shows that the US finds itself in a precarious position."
...

From Trump's perspective, something needs to happen now. "He can escalate further by deploying ground troops, which he has already sent there in massive numbers." According to military officials, some 10,000 additional American troops have been stationed in the Gulf region. Another option is for Trump to withdraw. "But that would mean a loss of face."

But Iran will not easily give in to Trump's threats, Manusama believes. "With the Strait of Hormuz, the country holds a strategic instrument with which it can hold the entire world hostage. Ultimately, the US will have to compromise."
...

Where Trump previously pretended to stand up for the rights and freedoms of Iranians, he now threatens to effectively attack civilian targets.
...

British Prime Minister Starmer has already indicated that the US may not use the country's military bases to attack civilian targets in Iran. But there is also protest within the American military leadership, says Manusama. "It is not without reason that many people are being purged." Randy George was the last Chief of Staff to be forced to leave under pressure from Defense Secretary Hegseth."

"Trump's threats are severe . He writes that "an entire civilization will die out tonight."
...

Tehran allows only a small number of tankers to sail through the strait—for a fee—and almost exclusively to countries like China and India. By doing so, Iran keeps the pressure on America to end the daily bombardments of the country.

After passing the Strait of Hormuz, it takes weeks for all the oil and gas to reach their destinations in Asia, Africa, North America, and Europe. In a week, around April 15, the last tankers that passed through that narrow strait in the Middle East before the war will dock in the US. In Europe, this will happen around April 10. After that, no new cargoes will arrive."
...

Economist Bert Colijn of ING also believes that a swift end to the fighting is of crucial economic importance. "The chance that we will quickly return to the pre-war situation is becoming increasingly smaller. Even if the war ends quickly, we will continue to face elevated oil prices because energy infrastructure has been damaged."

Due to the Iranian attacks on oil refineries in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates, and a bombing in March that dealt a major blow to Qatar's LNG production. There was also an Israeli missile attack on the main Iranian gas field. The damage from the energy war is already substantial."

Pope Leo has labeled Donald Trump’s latest threats against Iran"unacceptable" in an unusual appeal hours after the U.S. president said "a whole civilization will die tonight.”

Leo, an outspoken critic of the Iran war, called on citizens across the world to contact their political representatives and urge them to bring the expanding conflict to an end.

“Today, as we all know, there was this threat against all the people of Iran. This is truly unacceptable,” the pope said Tuesday. "There are certainly issues here of international law, but even more than that, it is a moral question for the good of the (world's) people.”

Pressed on who was leading Washington’s diplomatic push, Trump confirmed what had been unfolding through backchannels for days.

“They’re doing it along with Marco, JD. We have a number of people doing it,” he said, listing Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio among the administration’s lead negotiators for the first time.

Trump’s statement was a public corroboration of how Vance has quietly emerged as a central actor in last-ditch efforts facilitated by Pakistan to pull the US and Iran back from the brink of what could be the most devastating escalation of the war so far.

Iran has accepted the two-week ceasefire, Reuters is reporting.

Citing Iran state media, Reuters said Iran's Supreme Security Council has submitted a 10-point proposal to the United States via Pakistan.

If both sides agree, Iran says talks will begin on Friday, April 10.

Israel's Kan public broadcaster says it is also committed to a ceasefire with Iran.

Iran's Supreme National Security Council
has approved a two-week ceasefire in its war with Israel and the United States.

Donald Trump announced the agreement earlier.

Iran claims
to have won a major victory
and forced the United States to accept its 10-point plan,
according to the statement from Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

A White House representative quoted by CNN said
that Israel had also agreed to a two-week halt in bombing."

"Pakistan PM:
Iran-US ceasefire
extends to allies and applies everywhere,
including Lebanon."

Iran’s foreign ministry said a safe passage through the vital waterway will be possible for a period of two weeks through coordination with the country’s armed forces.

Israel has backed the two-week ceasefire with Iran, but has said it does not include Lebanon, despite Pakistan first announcing that the truce does. :(
