The Associated Press, citing an unnamed “regional official” who was “directly involved in the negotiations”, is reporting that Iran will be allowed to charge fees – tolls, essentially – on ships traversing the Strait of Hormuz throughout the ceasefire period.

The funds raised will apparently be shared with Oman, which controls the strait’s southern shore. Iran claims it will use its share of the money on reconstruction.

"The ten-point plan also says
that the US should accept Tehran's continued control over the Strait,
recognise its right to uranium enrichment,
lift all sanctions,
pay compensation,
and withdraw all troops from the region.

Iran would then use the money it raises for reconstruction following the weeks-long conflict."

"The Strait of Hormuz reopens.

Tankers are returning to the key shipping route.

The latest Automatic Identification System (AIS) readings indicate
that traffic has resumed in the strategic passage connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman.

Data from VesselFinder shows
that navigation charts are already showing the formation of the first convoys
and the gradual easing of congestion.
(All classes of vessels,
including tankers carrying crude oil and liquefied natural gas,
which are crucial to the global economy)

The situation in the region is stabilizing,
and the first convoys have safely departed the Persian Gulf for the Arabian Sea."

  • The U.S. and Israel say they've reached a deal for a two-week ceasefire with Iran.
  • Israel says the ceasefire doesn't include the war with Hezbollah in Lebanon, where it launched its largest co-ordinated strike in the war to date.
  • Iran's Supreme National Security Council confirmed it accepted the ceasefire proposal and its foreign minister said the country's armed forces would facilitate safe passage through the strait for the two-week period.
  • U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth framed the ceasefire this morning as a complete U.S. victory and said the military was ready to restart the war 'at a moment's notice.'
  • Sporadic attacks in Iran and other Gulf countries have continued in the hours after the ceasefire was announced.
  • Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a joint statement with other world leaders that the ceasefire should include Lebanon. The statement also said the countries would "contribute to ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," without elaborating.
  • U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte today, after the president slammed the defensive alliance for not helping with his war of choice in Iran."

"Prime Minister Mark Carney and other world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, released a joint statement Wednesday morning urging for a lasting ceasefire in the coming days.

"This will be crucial to protect the civilian population of Iran and ensure security in the region," the leaders said in the statement, which was issued by a spokesperson for the European Council.

They noted that a ceasefire could "avert a severe global energy crisis" and should include Lebanon.

The leaders said their governments are in close contact with the United States and other partners and that they would "contribute to ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz." However, the statement did not specify how that would be achieved."

Key information:

  • Some 15 countries are participating in planning the mission in the Strait of Hormuz under the leadership of France.
  • The mission is strictly defensive in nature and is intended to facilitate the resumption of shipping traffic in cooperation with Iran.
  • The launch will occur when conditions are met, including respecting the ceasefire.
  • Macron welcomed the US-Iran ceasefire and called for it to also cover Lebanon."

Iran, the United States and Israel agreed to a two-week ceasefire in an 11th-hour deal that headed off U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to unleash a bombing campaign to destroy Iranian civilization. Hours later, Iran and Gulf Arab countries reported new attacks Wednesday.

It was not clear if the strikes would scuttle the deal, which U.S. Vice President JD Vance called “fragile.”

Both the U.S. and Iran declared victory. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said American and Israeli forces had achieved a “capital V military victory” and that the Iranian military no longer posed a significant threat to U.S. forces or the region. The Iranian military said the country forced Israel and the U.S. to accept its “proposed conditions and surrender.”

President Trump said Wednesday that the United States would “work closely with Iran” after demanding Tehran’s “unconditional surrender” for weeks. Iranian officials were triumphant after the agreement, brokered by Pakistan, was announced, with Mohammad Reza Aref, the country’s first vice president, saying on social media that “the era of Iran” had begun after Mr. Trump failed to destroy the Islamic Republic’s government. Iran said the strait would remain open while negotiations took place.

Iran has closed the strait of Hormuz in response to Israel’s attacks on Lebanontoday despite the ceasefire, Iranian state media reports, with Iran’s authorities said to be treating the strait as still closed.

The hours-old two-week conditional ceasefire agreed between the US and Iran had a provision for the temporary reopening of the crucial maritime channel. Effectively, the strait has remained closed as traffic had not immediately increased inthe hours after the ceasefire announcement.

Tehran said on Wednesday that it would offer safe passage in coordination with its armed forces, though its coast guard said any ship trying to transit without permission would be “targeted and destroyed”.

Israel has launched huge strikes across Lebanon today, killing over 250 people, with Trump later clarifying that Lebanon wasn’t included in the ceasefire deal.

" 'Italian soldiers are not to be touched'.

Rome summons Israeli ambassador.

1775670691627.jpeg

The Italian Foreign Ministry reported
that a UNIFIL mission vehicle in southern Lebanon
was hit by Israeli forces.

Rome is demanding an explanation.
Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani emphasized that
'Italian soldiers are not to be touched'
and summoned the Israeli ambassador.

During a speech in Rome on Wednesday,
Italian Foreign Minister delivered tragic reports from Lebanon,
where, he emphasized,
heavy and brutal Israeli bombardment has taken place.
Reports suggest 150 airstrikes,
particularly in Beirut, Sidon, and Tyre."

"Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf says that at least three points of the Pakistani ceasefire proposal have already been violated, even before further negotiations between the US and Iran could start. (These are taking place this coming weekend.)

In a post on X, Ghalibaf mentions the (1) violation of a ceasefire in Lebanon (however, the US and Israel say that Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire), a (2) drone that entered Iranian airspace, and (3) "the denial of Iran's right to enrich uranium".

In such a case, a bilateral ceasefire and negotiations are "unreasonable," Ghalibaf believes.

According to Pakistani sources, Ghalibaf will be one of the negotiators conducting the talks with the US on behalf of Iran, together with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi."

"White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt also says that Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire between the US and Iran. The Israeli Prime Minister had already said this earlier.

However, Iran is threatening to attack Israel again if Israel does not stop its attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon."

Big problem with Israel refusing to do what is necessary for the global economy.

"Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasized this once again during a press conference. Israel will therefore continue its airstrikes on Hezbollah targets, Netanyahu said.

The Israeli army carried out heavy bombardments on Beirut and other parts of Lebanon today. According to the Lebanese Civil Protection, more than 250 people were killed. More than 800 people were wounded. These are the heaviest Israeli attacks on Lebanon since the start of the war, now five weeks ago.

Netanyahu also said that the ceasefire in Iran signifies "no end" and that Israel "has even more goals to achieve" in Iran, "either through an agreement or by restarting the fighting."

"Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot calls today's Israeli attacks on Lebanon unacceptable. "We had the feeling that the ceasefire also applies to Lebanon, but that is clearly not the case." Prévot now wants to increase pressure on Israel together with the other European foreign ministers, because "we must absolutely avoid Beirut becoming the new Gaza."

"Today's attacks do not demonstrate good will on the part of Israel," Prévot adds. According to him, they actually reinforce Hezbollah's narrative. "And that is something we must avoid."

Prévot is in Beirut himself and witnessed the attacks from close range. One of the Israeli bombings took place a few hundred meters from the Belgian embassy in Beirut, where Prévot was at the time."

"Iranian Foreign Ministry Statement:

'The US Must Make a Choice'.

1775680792867.jpeg

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi issued a statement
addressing the ambiguity surrounding the terms of the ceasefire agreement.

He emphasized
that Israel must cease attacks on Iran
and that the US must choose between war and peace.

'The world is watching to see
if they will honor their commitments.

The terms of the ceasefire between Iran and the US are clear and unambiguous,
the US must make a choice:
either a ceasefire
or continued war through Israel.
You can't have it all',
Aragchi wrote on the X platform.

Iran emphasizes
that the end of the fighting in Lebanon was part of the agreement reached earlier.

'The world is witnessing the massacres in Lebanon',
wrote the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran."

Israel has pushed forward its war against the Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon, striking dense commercial and residential areas of Beirut without warning. Lebanon said at least 182 people were killed and hundreds were wounded, making it the deadliest day in the latest Israel-Hezbollah war.

The Red Cross said it was “outraged by the devastating death and destruction” in densely populated areas across Lebanon as Israel launched a massive wave of attacks on Wednesday.

Heavy explosive weapons struck bustling neighbourhoods, including in Beirut, without effective advance warnings, the International Committee of the Red Cross said.

“Many who had begun thinking of the moment when they might return to their homes have been rushing to streets and hospitals, searching for missing loved ones or seeking a safety that feels increasingly out of reach,” said Agnes Dhur, the ICRC’s head of delegation in Lebanon.

At least 182 people were killed and 890 wounded on Wednesday, according to the latest Lebanese health ministry toll.

Here are some of the images from those Israeli strikes.
