"Vernal police identified Sunday a 3-year-old girl who was allegedly smothered to death by her stepmother. Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell confirmed the girl's identity as Arianna Rose Stout, who was nearly 4 years old when she died on March 14.

The 24-year-old suspect, Mckenley Yadon, also known as Mckenley Stout, remains in the Uintah County Jail with no bail after she was booked into the facility on Thursday, facing possible charges of aggravated murder and child abuse. Her first appearance in court will likely be on Tuesday, Campbell said during a news conference Sunday morning...

When Yadon was arrested Thursday, she told police she had smothered the child using a blanket on the girl's bed, police wrote. "Mckenley stated she had been planning and thinking about doing this act for two or three days prior to March 14," the affidavit states."

"VERNAL — Arianna Stout had no sense of "stranger danger."

According to her grandmother, Christina Cook, the 3-year-old would give hugs to anyone, from elderly women at church to people she saw in the store.

When cautioned not to approach strangers, Arianna would say, "But Grandma, they were so sad, they needed a hug," Cook recalled Friday, the same day the girl's stepmother was charged with murder in her death....

"I'm just glad we're getting this closure as soon as we are, because I know there are some cases that have dragged on," Cook said.

Learning that Arianna was allegedly murdered by her stepmother has left family members dumbfounded...."

Vernal woman charged with aggravated murder in 3-year-old stepdaughter’s smothering death

"A Vernal woman is facing charges of aggravated murder and child abuse after being accused of smothering her 3-year-old stepdaughter to death earlier this month.

The charges against McKenley Jordan Yadon, 24, of Vernal, were filed Friday in Utah’s 8th District Court. Yadon was booked into the Uintah County jail Thursday, and is being held without bail...."
