The gay insult stood out to me. It's something an 11 year old boy would say to insult another.

Perhaps I'm giving too much credit, but I think it's meant be ironic. Like, he's acting childish on purpose for a laugh to his in-crowd. And it's all the more funny to him, imo, if people don't get the joke.

But being purposely immature is also immature. I'm not praising his antics but think he's shallow, thoughtless, selfish, and violent. Nothing admirable in his "humor."

Oh it's a thing on some of the podcasts out there! Many words of slander being used out there online to drill the mantra speak, it's crazy.

I think this is what a lot of young men (and women/other genders to be fair) are listening to (on both sides left and right). And I think they think it's normal to think like that because most of their time is online. JMO MOO

Messages reportedly showed Robinson stating a need to retrieve a rifle from a drop point, leaving the rifle in a bush, messages related to visually watching the area where a rifle was left, and a message referring to having left the rifle wrapped in a towel. The messages also refer to engraving bullets, and a mention of a scope and the rifle being unique. Messages from Robinson also mention that he had changed outfits.

The motive may be a mix of things, and it may also be incoherent, but there's clearly a political element to it. Shortly before the shooting he'd complained about Kirk being hateful, and he engraved antifacist messaging on the shell casings.

And then carries out the mostly ragingly hateful thing anyone could ever do!

Completely messed up sense of reasoning.

Like I say, I think we're going to see a backstory of years of strange behavior suggesting mental health or personality issues.

Ya, I can't tell if he's pro or against trans/furries/gays... He was said to hate Kirk and his beliefs but it's almost confusing as it sounds like the killer almost does too?

You are probably right with him trying to be clever, cynical or ironic. It almost backfires though as he seems almost homophobic, but maybe it's just me and how I'm processing it. MOO

US military services say the suspect did not serve​

I do not think that it is misleading at all. The suspect drove approximiately 3.5 hours to target and assassinate a public figure. The public figure was known for his political and religious beliefs, and the FBI stated that the suspect does not like Kirk's viewpoints. It doesn't take a rocket science to connect the dots.

From that article all I get as far as motive goes is that the shooter "didn't like him" and thinks "he spread lies and hate"

To me that's not a definitive motive. We all dislike stuff and dislike people and their opinions.

I think that a lot of the media is spinning the stuff put on the bullets as "far right" - they aren't. They're mostly generic waffle young kids reel off online and memes, used by kids with left, right or zero political standpoint. Thus making the shooter himself out to be "far right" which as far as I'm aware hasn't been remotely proven.
There are statements from people, as reported, that the shooter become "more political" recently but that isn't elaborated on more. As far as we know he could have been slamming both sides.
Kirk was hugely right wing so I guess it's expected that his killer be some deranged far leftie as that fits the narrative. I'm just yet to see any solid proof of this, he didn't vote for either despite being registered. So far all I see is a clueless edge lord following trends with zero definitive leanings of his own and media spinning this into potentially far more than it actually is.

Tyler Robinson is alleged to have discussed the aftermath of killing Kirk on the app Discord, mentioning how he had inscribed the bullets with political messages.

IMO it was very brave as well as heartbreaking for that dad who turned his son in. He was LE for 27 years; it must be dreadful for his family that their boy grew up to be this man.

Clearly though my sympathies are with Kirk’s widow, his fatherless children, and his parents and other family members.

I’m with those who believe the Internet or Dark Web has a profound influence on some young men. Where in the past they were isolated in their disturbing world view, now they exist in an online echo chamber.

He probably received all kinds of accolades from his fellow damaged peers.

A clergy member helped turn in suspect​

We have more details about how Robinson was turned in to law enforcement.

Two law enforcement sources tell CBS News, the BBC's US partner, Tyler Robinson's father relayed his son's confession to a clergy member - the family friend we heard about earlier.

That clergy member took the tip to the US Marshals Service, and then Robinson was detained.

Earlier in the morning, President Trump told Fox News that a "minister" was involved in helping authorities detain Robinson.

It is unclear what religion or denomination the clergy person is affiliated with.

Tyler Robinson's name was circulating online before today's announcement was made - and the team at BBC Verify were searching for social media accounts which could be linked to him.

We found a Facebook profile for someone we thought was his mother - they share the same surname, live in the same area, and had posted a lot of pictures of someone who looks very much like Tyler Robinson.

We subsequently found that some of the images gave a 99.5% or more match when put through facial recognition software, alongside the mugshot of Tyler Robinson released by officials.

One of the photos on the Facebook account shows him holding up a certificate from Pine View Middle School in the city of St George in southern Utah. Another was taken at Utah State University in Logan in northern Utah. Officials later confirmed he studied at both.

In another video posted on the Facebook profile, he is seen reading from a letter, saying: "Congratulations you have been selected to receive the resident presidential scholarship from Utah State University. The value of this scholarship is approximately $32,000. This scholarship is available for four years or eight semesters."

The university has confirmed that he went there for one semester in 2021, but wouldn't confirm what he studied or why he left early when asked by BBC Verify.

My heart breaks for Charlie's family and all who loved him. I also have enormous sympathy for TR's family ,they must be completely broken.

I was married at 21 and a mother at 24. I look back now and know I was young, but murdering someone was not on my list of things to do because my prefrontal cortex had not fully matured.

This is so sad that she's talking to the DM and waiting on her son to call her and let her know what's going on. I've never been in the shoes of the parents but I would certainly want my loved ones to hear it from me vs the media.

Also, there was absolutely nothing about this crime that was impulsive. He wasn't a 15yo kid being bullied at school but a grown adult who plotted an assassination.

I believe that this is in reference to an Italian folk song "Beautiful Goodbye". If so, the song has been used by various progressive Italian resistance movements (both armed and unarmed) for quite some time.

I doubt this guy would go that deep into Italian history.

From what I understand the song is used in the video game Hearts of Iron 4.
