I doubt this guy would go that deep into Italian history.

From what I understand the song is used in the video game Hearts of Iron 4.
And Far Cry 6, and Hellfire 2. It's certainly had a renaissance.

Here's a recap of the day so far, as we learn more about the suspect accused of killing Charlie Kirk

  • After nearly two days of searching, authorities announced today that they have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting and killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, at a speaking event at Utah Valley University (UVU) on Wednesday. Tyler Robinson, 22, is now in custody at Utah County Jail.
  • According to surveillance footage, authorities say that Robinson was seen arriving at the UVU campus on Wednesday in a Dodge Challenger.
  • FBI director Kash Patel said that Robinson was ultimately arrested in Washington County – which sits in the southwest corner of the state – at around 10pm local time on Thursday 11 September.
  • At a press conference earlier, governor Spencer Cox said that Robinson’s family friend turned him in, and told officers that Robinson “confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident”. Cox also said that a family member that investigators interviewed described Robinson as becoming “more political in recent years” and was aware that Kirk was due to speak at UVU.
  • The weapon used was identified as a high-action bolt rifle, and Cox noted that several bullet casings were found at the scene of the crime. One of three unfired casings read “Hey fascist! Catch!”, a second read “Oh Bella Ciao” (which is the name of an anti-fascist Italian anthem), and a third casing had the following engraved: “If you read this, you are gay, LMAO”.
  • Robinson has not been formally charged yet. Officials today said they have three days to prepare those documents, which will likely be filed early next week. According to court records obtained by CNN, Robinson is being held without bail on several initial charges, including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and obstruction of justice.
  • A Utah Valley University spokesperson confirmed today that Robinson is a third-year student in the electrical apprenticeship program at Dixie Technical College. He also briefly attended Utah State University.
  • Donald Trump was the first to break the news of the investigation’s development. He announced “with a high degree of certainty” that law enforcement had arrested a suspect in an interview with Fox News earlier

The song is also a community thing in Helldivers 2 online communities, same as the arrows on another of the casings are an eagle drop sequence in Helldivers 2

Not politically affiliated whatsoever in this sense.

I agree. No depth of thought, no reasoned stance, no scholar of politics or history.

His education -- internet memes that are zero days old.

We may find he was simply looking for a public target.

Beyond senseless.

The motive may be a mix of things, and it may also be incoherent, but there's clearly a political element to it..
Very well said and very insightful.

In the end, attempts to explain away, white wash or downplay the obvious and blatant political messaging (Fascist- catch, verses to an Italian song associated with left wing resistance, stated dislike of the victim's political messaging) are likely to come up short.

Im my opinion, such attempts are disrespectful to the victim. It is similar to speculating that this shooting was not truly based on hatred of Palestinians. Maybe the shooter was actually motivated by video games? Maybe the shooter confused Palestinian colors for Italian colors (both use red, white and green)? Maybe he had a mental psychosis? Maybe, Maybe......

<modsnip: off topic >

Yet, as you state, there could be other sub motives besides the obvious political:

- Drifting angry youth who "failed to launch". How long is an electrical apprenticeship program? He was enrolled for three years. May indicate attendance and/or grade issues mixed with drifting with no clear goal or purpose.

- His choice of cruise mobile is not exactly eco centered and socially aware. Maybe a bored "rebel with out a cause"- who then recently found a cause"? Maybe even changed his political orientation for "shock value", attention and to generate cool talking points?

- Social isolation: As others have noted, the gay joke reference is a generation old. Maybe socially isolated and those noticing would include admiring females?

According to the BBC's US partner CBS, two law enforcement sources explain Robinson's father knew the suspect was his son from the images which had been released by the FBI.

The sources add that Robinson's father urged the 22-year-old to turn himself in after he had confessed. The father reached out to a family friend who contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with the information.

US Marshals then took Robinson into custody and informed the FBI, the sources say.

Thanks. His father urged him to turn himself in. The father contacted a family friend. The family friend called the Sheriff's Office.

There is nothing stating that Tyler Robinson turned himself in.

I just can't imagine being in this poor dad's shoes. He did the total right thing getting his son to turn himself in but has to know his son will likely get the death penalty. Just heartbroken for him and Kirk's family both. Just no need for this to happen.

Anyways @BrianJohnson I'm replying to your comment replying to someone else regarding mental health/sociopathy and narcissism.

I fear that he's not proven to be mentally ill or proven to have ASPD or narcissistic disorder.

I fear that we have a senseless young man who has zero diagnosed issue, no true political/radicalised stance, who simply killed a man because he thought it would make him look cool to the internet and be fAmOuS.

That is to me way more terrifying than say a psychopathic killer or a paranoid schizophrenic killer. It's terrifying because there's kids like that everywhere. Young people who follow trends blindly online, think nothing of laughing at dying children on the news. Young people who want to be tiktok famous by any means, who aspire to be world known and are so desensitised to violence and death that they will go out and harm someone just to "troll"

It's terrifying but I fear that's what we have in this case and I dread to think of what's to come.

IMO
I can agree. Sadly some can't or don't think past the event and realize how it will change their life or the lives of their loved ones.

I respectfully disagree that the motive is clearly or overtly political, although he may have targeted a popular figure for notoriety.

Robinson, a 22-year-old former student at Utah Valley University, was seething about Kirk’s upcoming campus appearance during a dinner days before he fatally shot the close friend of President Trump, authorities said.

The suspect went on about how he “didn’t like [Kirk] and the viewpoints he had.

From that article all I get as far as motive goes is that the shooter "didn't like him" and thinks "he spread lies and hate"

To me that's not a definitive motive. We all dislike stuff and dislike people and their opinions.

I think that a lot of the media is spinning the stuff put on the bullets as "far right" - they aren't. They're mostly generic waffle young kids reel off online and memes, used by kids with left, right or zero political standpoint. Thus making the shooter himself out to be "far right" which as far as I'm aware hasn't been remotely proven.
There are statements from people, as reported, that the shooter become "more political" recently but that isn't elaborated on more. As far as we know he could have been slamming both sides.
Kirk was hugely right wing so I guess it's expected that his killer be some deranged far leftie as that fits the narrative. I'm just yet to see any solid proof of this, he didn't vote for either despite being registered. So far all I see is a clueless edge lord following trends with zero definitive leanings of his own and media spinning this into potentially far more than it actually is.

MOO
Exactly. Notably, right wing figures have insinuated CK was a fascist.

There may be some political motive, and it may be from either 'side'. We just don't know right now. And I think the last 2-3 days have proven that we should not be rushing to make hasty generalizations. MOO

So I guess he was in school, and for the last 3 years/ish

IMO his father had no other choice.
Aside from angst and despair for his beloved son, any other choice than helping the kid turn himself in would result in far worse for himself and his family. Imagine a LE professional NOT helping Tyler to give up.

The electrical apprenticeship program at Dixie Tech is 45 months, so being in one's third year wouldn't be off-track. Electrical Apprenticeship

I wonder if any of his friends or fellow students had phoned in tips. Surely it can't just be his father who recognized him.
Does he have a girlfriend or has he ever had one?
Dad turned in his son knowing he'll get the death penalty. Cold as ice, damn.
IMO I don't think his dad had a choice, once he recognized him and the shooter confessed what else could he do? It was only a matter of time before he was arrested. He may not get the death penalty, we don't know what is going to happen to him.

Just because somebody called CK a fascist or inspiring "Hitler Youth" does not make it true. That article, it makes it sound like Pastor Darrell Scott was simply jealous of CK.

Regardless, it is exactly that kind of talk that leads to people like Tyler Robinson taking up arms. Sad.

I wonder when we will learn more about how he was radicalized.

Not cold as Ice... Moral duty. A murderer deserves no sympathy not even from a parent.

......
Breaking her silence on Friday, Tyler Robinson's grandmother Debbie Robinson, 69, said she is stunned by the charges against her grandson, describing him as a quiet, reserved young man who 'never' spoke politics, despite his father's staunch Trump support.

'My son, his dad, is a Republican for Trump,' Debbie, who also lives in Washington, Utah, told Daily Mail.

'[Tyler] is the shyest person,' she added. 'He has never, ever spoke politics to me at all.

'Most of my family members are Republican. I don't know any single one who’s a Democrat.

'I'm just so confused.'
.....

Debbie said her son hasn't answered her calls since the news broke on Robinson's identity as the suspect in Kirk's assassination.
Why is Debbie making such a big deal (or even pointing out) that her son is a Republican Trump supporter and that all her family are Republicans?

I don't think she's confused at all, more like saying: "Don't look at me, I'm not one of them!" Thus, there may be a reason (justifiable or not) why her son is not answering her calls (which imo was another completely unnecessary comment she made in an attempt to distance). Just observation and speculation on my part
