'The spent cartridge was still chambered and three unspent cartridges contained wording on them expressing what some law enforcement officials described as "transgender and anti-fascist" writing, according to preliminary information shared with agencies.'

If this really is the case then I'm sorry but it seems like very much more than a coincidence that the shot was fired when it was. To go to the extreme of writing on cartridges and then to manage to time your shot coincidentally with the moment a particular question is asked? he was surely at the very least listening to the speech? if not, that is some freak timing.

Investigators have name of person of interest

Federal law enforcement believes it has identified the name of a person of interest, according to two U.S. officials and a law enforcement source. So far, however, no arrest warrant has been issued.

Don't think he had time to disassemble it before fleeing, so how did he conceal it ?
Omo.

In the image on the left he seems to have something in his right hand and also to me he seems to be surprised that he ran into someone in the stairwell.

My initial thought was whoever it was was aiming for his throat to make a point about silencing him but definitely it was not the work of a pro, a pro leaves behind no traces or clues and certainly doesn’t discard their weapon like that and leave their face on CCTV
The shooter was able to get off a (horrible to say but you know what I mean) "lucky shot" ?
Imo.

That is what I was wondering! If this photo is on his way in, he sure seems to have hidden his weapon 'well'.

Police clarified that the photographs that they released earlier on Thursday, showing a person wanted for questioning in connection with the shooting, wearing a cap and sunglasses and walking up a stairwell, were taken by a security camera shortly before the shooting took place on Wednesday.

Maybe that $100,000 reward sparked an interest.

Trained snipers don't aim for a target's neck. IMO, the shooter didn't account for ballistic drop.

MOO: Shooter is 18-22 year old male <modsnip: diagnosing>

Actually to me it looks like he is wearing a bullet proof vest in that photo.
There is something odd or off with the shoulders that looks square. Between shoulders and neck. A backpack maybe?

Whoever it was knew what they were doing, they knew the wind direction and how to shoot, definitely ex military or prolific hunter

That's just never happened. I remember people saying the same thing about the murder committed by Luigi Mangione, before he was identified.

This was sloppy as hell.

He was either aiming for his head and shot low, or aiming for his chest and shot high. He left a palm print, shoe prints, and almost certainly his DNA. He dumped the gun like an amateur, leaving behind a goldmine for investigators.

I agree on the timing regarding an arrest, but I'm convinced this is going to be a lone wolf with his own grievance.

I missed the news about a palm print and shoe prints. I'd like to read more about that. Could you please share the link? TIA

Interesting for sure. How would he hear from way up there?

Wonder if he had help in the audience to tip him off? Doubtful, sounds line lone assassin but still seems way too coincidental.

Regarding the two photos released of a person FBI identified as a "person of interest":

In the front facing photo, it appeared to me that a small rectangle was blurred which included the right end of the person's mouth and upper neck. Could that mean this person has some distinctive mark there (a tattoo, current acne) and the FBI is currently withholding that information because it will be useful to include/eliminate a person as a suspect?

In that same photo, under the bill of the hat, I think I may possibly see long blonde bangs to one side (above his right eye), but it may just be that I am seeing shadows or highlights in the photo. In the photo from the side, the person appears to have dark hair at the sideburns and in the back.

If the "cheering guy" was an accomplice, it would surely be exceptionally stupid to draw attention to himself by cheering.
Definitely! Good point.

Maybe a musical instrument case? Would fit in a guitar or horns case. Blend in and look like a student with that.

Investigators found a "high-powered, bolt-action" rifle in a nearby wooded area, and were examining that along with palm prints and footprints for clues. On Thursday, with classes canceled, the roof of the building on the otherwise deserted campus and the nearby woods were strung with yellow tape as investigators scoured them for evidence.

Now I do see something to the side of his body at the back.
