State and federal officials in Utah are planning to hold a news conference at 9 a.m. ET on the investigation.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason, FBI Director Kash Patel and FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls are expected to attend.

NY Times seems to have received confirmation from some (unstated) LE.

A man was taken into custody at about 11 p.m. local time by Utah state and local police, according to a law enforcement official who confirmed the details of President Trump’s remarks to Fox News.

Federal authorities are not releasing his name because they are still in the process of pursuing leads and executing search warrants, according to the official, who requested anonymity to discuss details of the ongoing investigation.

I read the quote as "father" in the church sense rather than parent but not sure.

Trump says that person went to "the father", who went to a US Marshal - "who was fantastic by the way".

Trump says the "person" - presumably the person who recognised the suspect - was a "person of faith, a minister".

"The father convinced the son," Trump says.

Trump says he may need to be corrected, but he's talking "based on what I'm hearing". BBM

Asked to clarify, Trump says the father, "namely his father", got involved, and said "we've got to go in".

"They drove into the police headquarters, and he's there now."

Sounds like someone in LE (a minister?) recognized the perp and alerted the father who then took the son into the police station.

What we know - and what we don't - about the suspect's movements​

The manhunt for the gunman who killed Charlie Kirk continues. This is what we know.

• The suspect arrived on campus at 11:52 local time on Wednesday
• He reached his position by climbing the stairwells to the roof, before opening fire at around 12:20
• CCTV footage shows a figure dressed in black running across a roof before dropping down to the ground and fleeing
• The FBI recovered a weapon - an imported Mauser .30-06 bolt action rifle - in a wooded area near the scene wrapped in a towel
• They are also analysing a palm print and a "footwear impression

But there is still a great deal we don't know, including:

• Where the search is being carried out - Utah law enforcement agency has "no idea" if suspect still in state
• The name of the suspected gunman or any other identifying details
• Whether police know some of that information and have chosen not to make it public at this stage

FBI to hold press conference at 9am ET on Kirk Shooting​

Brian Kilmeade, who is interviewing Donald Trump, just said on air that there will be a press conference at 9am ET with FBI director Kash Patel present.

Kilmeade goes on to say that he’s getting word that the shooter is “in custody, and he’s alive, and he was turned in by by a friends and families”. He didn’t elaborate on his sources.

Can’t imagine being in the father’s position here, assuming it’s true. Knowing full well that you are essentially leading your child to their eventual execution.

Would the Dad be considered an accomplice after the fact or something along that line if he didn’t at least report?
