Found Deceased UT - Elizabeth Laguna Salgado, 26, Provo, 16 Apr 2015

Just popping in real quick. My understanding is that Elizabeth lived at the Branbury apts. in Provo. My daughter lived there for a couple of years. They are LDS code of conduct housing for students. They are also in an area prone to sexual assaults, along the river trail that runs along the back of the apartments, and on the apartment grounds. IIRC, this trail goes to BYU. It would be interesting to know if Elizabeth took up walking this route. She would be new enough to the area, she would not know to stay away from the trail. A couple of years back a resident of these apartments was attacked on the trail, raped, beaten and left for dead. HTH.
That is frightening. I hope SAR heeds that and looks back there.

The uncle part has me squirming. (AJ Haskell has a step dad who probably killed her, and he tried to peg it on an earnest boy too. Exactly the same type of skewing this uncle is saying. The step dad was also the head honcho for searches and contact). I don't trust the uncle.

I don't want to think bad about the uncle, but I'm with you, squirming. The suggestions it could be a kidnapping or foul play from a spurred-suitor seem like deflections.

I would like to be wrong, but I'd like to know where the uncle was that afternoon when he says Elena (Elizabeth) didn't return his text.

Laguna-Salgado, is 5-ft., 4-in. tall, 120 to 130 lbs., with long black hair and brown eyes, was last seen by some of her classmates walking to her apartment, 18 blocks from the language school. A part-time waitress at a local Mexican restaurant, she was wearing a denim jacket, blue jeans and brown or black knee-high boots, and was carrying a denim purse with red straps.

Police: "We've interviewed everyone at the school and her three roommates, but so far, we don't have any answers. That's why we've asked the public to help find her."

____

the uncle:

"It's so unlike her – she's very responsible and wouldn't take off without telling anyone," says her uncle, Rosemberg Salgado, 38, of Rancho Cucamonga, California. "We are all devastated. To have somebody in your family disappear is the worst thing imaginable."

Laguna-Salgado's family members (she is one of six siblings) are scrambling to get visas so they can come to the United States to help search for her, Rosemberg says. "It's shocking," he says. "She came to the U.S. on March 23 to live in an apartment with some other girls and now she's gone. How could this happen?"

"She's a very spiritual girl, optimistic, always with a good attitude," he says. "Never in her life has she been one to get into trouble."

His niece had complained recently about a young man in her English class, who was constantly asking her to go out with him. "He was asking aggressively and she told me she got upset," he said. "The police have talked to him, but nothing came of it. As far as I know, there still aren't any leads."

I just realized the uncle is 38, Elizabeth is 26.

Okay, I am local to this missing person story. There are flyers all over Provo. People are genuinely concerned, but basically clueless on what to do with this case. They cannot comprehend disappearing without a trace. Unfortunately, I have been on WS too long, and I know how easily it can and does happen! :(

I am going to Provo again this afternoon and I am looking along University Avenue to see how many surveillance cameras I can see. I can't remember there being a ton in this area.

I talked to several people at Community Action yesterday. They want to help, but just do not know how.

Many, many people believe she was taken against her will. Provo is pretty busy because it is a college town. There are many, many college age students walking around all of the time. It is hard for me to believe that no one would see anything. However, there is a river trail that is very popular to walk on. It is also a spot that several girls have been raped on. Although it is busy, there can always be that moment of quite.

Any suggestions on things I could check in to, please let me know. Otherwise, I will continue my quest.

Yup!

It's like someone has been reading the "playbook" from another individual  except making the (supposed) unwanted advances supposedly coming from a person in person and not via text.

You say "yup" and I say "yep." LOL!

One month ago, Elizabeth Elena Laguna-Salgado moved to Utah from Mexico so that she could learn English after serving a mission for the Mormon Church. Now the 26-year-old is missing, and another young woman who shares her first name has stepped up to urge the public to help find her.

"The importance of the public and media's help in rescuing missing persons like Elizabeth Salgado can't be overstated," says Elizabeth Smart, 27, who was kidnapped from her bed in 2002 at age 14 and held captive for nine months. Her abductor, Brian David Mitchell, is now serving a life sentence in federal prison.

Elizabeth Smart Asks for 'Time, Attention and Prayers' to Help Find Missing Utah Woman

Laguna-Salgado has not been seen since she disappeared on the afternoon of April 16 while walking home from her English class at Nomen Global Language School in Provo, Utah.

They are still holding out hope that she is alive and being held somewhere. After this length of time, and with this kind of publicity, I tend to disagree.

It never ceases to amaze me how these spur-of-the-moment abductions can be pulled off so flawlessly that dozens and possibly hundreds of searchers are left without a clue to work with, including the cops.

I'm starting to think that the entire concept of C.S.I. forensics is nothing more than T.V. fantasyland stuff that makes for interesting viewing but isn't anywhere close to reality. The bad guys continue to keep the upper hand.

Don't know if it might be relevant, but thought I'd include it as Elizabeth came to mind as soon as I started seeing the reports of the body in the suitcase and realized it wasn't that far from Provo (it's about an hour)

UPDATE: Cops say a UDOT employee found suitcase with body inside near Saltair. Live report coming up on News at Five. http://go.fox13now.com/1GK8G2f

That is so disrespectful. WHY!

If I'm LE, I have an undercover watching every move the uncle makes right now. I'm interviewing neighbors for behavior such as late night trip, cleaning car, changing car appearance, etc.

She hasn't been missing that long... I would think they would know if it COULD be her. :twocents:
My FIRST thought was still Susan Powell. I guess it's just always going to be my first thought for any body. :dunno:

Clearly it hasn't been there long enough to be Susan though:

http://www.good4utah.com/story/d/st...dy-inside-invest/27148/aQPejg-fNUOsNrA-YpC2hQ

"He did, he picked it up and then there was a bad smell so he called the police," said Josh Hansen, contractor with UDOT.

The inspector mentioned in the story Ms. Facetious quoted above believes it's a female:

AA contractor working for UDOT said the UDOT inspector who found the suitcase believed it was a female inside. Investigators aren't saying.

https://twitter.com/ABC4K_Nelson/status/593935711700529152

This reporter is at the station that article above is from. And it looks like the poorly edited (multiple errors, missing letters in words, etc.) story they posted (the one Ms. F posted) intended to say they believe it to be a female at the end of the article.

The comment on that twitter is....
Yeah, I totally hope it's not this girl because she's quite pretty. WTF?
People are so strange.... :dunno:

Yeah I was wondering about that "unfinished" paragraph.
Unfortunately I am quite accustomed to the horrendous editing of our news articles. :sigh:

I thought he smelled it and called LE, I didn't realize he opened it?
Or maybe he was there when LE opened it to verify it was a crime scene?
I don't know. :dunno:

http://www.good4utah.com/story/d/st...dy-inside-invest/27148/aQPejg-fNUOsNrA-YpC2hQ

Investigators aren't saying what age, or race the dead person inside the suitcase is or if it's a male or female, but the state inspector allegedly told this UDOT worker.

Heidi Hatch @tvheidihatch · 3h 3 hours ago

“@jonesnews: Family of missing Provo girl, Elizabeth Salgado has been informed of body found in SLC County. No positive identification yet”

https://twitter.com/tvheidihatch/status/593952291654250496

Since they're not making it sound like they're totally unable to identify visually (not immediately stating they'll need to do dental records to figure it out) definitely fits with it being more recent.

This sounds just like a few days ago with Erica Alonso's body - family notified quickly, saying no positive ID yet, and then the confirmation came hours later (though they were still doing fingerprints and dental records to 100% confirm - but they were obviously sure)
