Found Deceased UT - Kayelyn Louder, 30, Murray, 27 September 2014

I made up a map showing the travel of the Little Cottonwood Creek all the way over to the Jordan river.

The map starts at her condo, winds along and shows the path of Cottonwood Creek until it joins with the Jordan.

At the Jordan River, the icons go North to the approximate area where she was found.

A rough scale of the map indicates the distance of Little Cottonwood Creek to where it matches up is about 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 miles.

From the Jordan River north to where she was found, scales about 2 1/2 miles. Overall distance from her condo- about 5 miles (+-) walking distance.

You can zoom the window in and out with the center wheel on your mouse. You will see how Cottonwood Creek zig-zags all over the place on it's way over to meet the Jordan River.

As you can see, it is quite a long distance, leaving me to wonder if maybe she walked for a good ways along Cottonwood creek the day she disappeared.

I don't know the exact location her body was discovered, but marked a major intersection of the river and highway somewhere around
3300 south 1200 West. which is the correct area according to news reports.

It seems almost incomprehensible that her body could have drifted that far with all the twists and turns along that creek, but it has been over two months since she disappeared, and there was plenty of rain to keep the creek bed full and flowing.

Very useful map, thank you! :goodpost:

So sorry to read the news, I was really hoping she would be found safe. RIP Kayelyn, prayers to her family.

This is so sad.

I wish we knew what happened to her, but I don't think we ever will. At least her family knows where she is now, can bury her and grieve. A family touched by so much heartache. :(

The autopsy hopefully will shed some light on how she died and from there assumptions can be made rather than mere speculation.

I have a feeling this is going to end up being one of those cases that has a really dumb ending, and it is going to piss everybody off.

I was looking at a case yesterday here on Websleuths, a woman goes missing at a truck stop when she decides to leave her boyfriend. The word goes out and everybody searches and searches and searches...........can't find her anywhere.
Fast Forward 6 months........people here on Websleuths discover a picture of a woman that jumped to her death and drowned. They notice that she looks remarkably like the woman that is missing. Fellow Websleuthers contact the cops in that area and report it to them. The detective gets back with the tipster and informs them that he appreciates the info., but he knows it isn't the missing woman. You see, he actually went over to where the missing woman lived just to make sure that she was okay. They had apparently known her whereabouts for awhile, but just didn't bother to inform the media or any of the people searching for her......REAL classy.........and thoughtless.

The link below is the case I am talking about. Follow it from the beginning.

Apparently the people "searching for her" weren't doing a very good job if the police located her at her home. Perhaps instead of criticizing the police, the people "searching for her" who failed to check if she ever went back home for 6 months, should be the ones criticized.

Thanks so much STEELMAN! Wow... I followed that river from her condo all the way to the end...Oh my gosh! Is it even possible to drift THAT FAR? Even if she ran frantically and eventually tried "crossing the creek"...Could a scantily clad beautiful barefoot female go unnoticed by a single soul? I am a firm hater of all conspiracy theorists but I cannot believe that scenario. At all. What the heck happened???

The peak flow of Little Cottonwood Creek on September 27, 2014 occurred during the 6:00 PM - 6:30 PM period, at almost 300 CFS. The weight of one cubic foot of water varies slightly depending on temperature, mineral density and other criteria but we can use an average of 62 lbs. That is 18,000 lbs of water flowing per-second. It is easily possible for that flow to carry a human for quite a distance if maintaining a consistent adequate depth and minimal obstruction. Sections of the creek provide those very conditions but not necessarily for the entire path to where it eventually flows in to the Jordan River.

I'm wondering... was Kayelyn still fully clothed (tank top and shorts and whatever undergarments) when discovered? If not, then I definitely suspect foul play. If she was still clothed then most likely Kayelyn entered the water under her own power, either intentionally or accidentally. Is it possible Kayelyn attempted to 'esacpae' the 'threat' by swimming away, hoping her 'pursuers' could not swim?

I wish the person who saw her acting like someone was after her and hiding behind cars (If I remember correctly) would have helped her...

I remember that she was trying to get into cars?

Oh no :( Not the outcome I was hoping for. Rest peacefully, Kayelyn. Sending up prayers of comfort to her loves ones.

Someone upthread said her twin is in Draper, UT.

“This is worst case scenario,” said Allen Robins, a private investigator for the Louder family.

Police in West Valley City found Louder in about three to four feet of water under a bridge.

Because the body was significantly decomposed, authorities could only identify her through dental records Tuesday afternoon.

Surveillance video taken on Sept. 27 caught her walking away from her condo, barefoot and without any personal belongings. But no one had seen or heard from her since then.

“We don’t know what happened. No one else saw her,” Robins said. “No one has any other details as to what had happened from when she left that frame until yesterday.”

A creek that connects to the Jordan River runs behind Louder’s home. However, because of how shallow it is, Robins does not believe her body would have traveled as far away as it was found, which totaled approximately five miles.

Two things of interest:

The P.I. states that nobody saw her after she was seen on the surveillance video. Wasn't that contradicted just recently when a woman came forward with the story about seeing her trying to get into cars and climbing over gates ? Was the P.I. never informed ? Was it a false lead ?

The people involved seem to believe that there isn't enough water flowing in that creek for her to have drifted and floated that far. It almost looks like one of those urban creeks that is mainly used for run-off control and drainage. Sometimes it is chock full of water, and other times it is almost dried up.

It sounds to me that the PI believes it was foul play. jmo

sad ending for someone who wanted to help others..tormented by her own mind RIP Ms. Louder

It could take a long time to figure out how Kayelyn Louder died
http://www.sltrib.com/news/1902409-155/it-could-take-a-long-time

"It might be a long time before Kayelyn Louder’s family knows how she died.

While her family on Tuesday received the answer to the question they have been asking in earnest for weeks — where is she? — Louder’s family will have to wait for answers to a whole host of other questions, including how she wound up in the Jordan River, lodged against a concrete bridge abutment where the river flows through West Valley City.

Murray Police Officer Kenny Bass said Wednesday that determining a cause of death with a decomposed body can be "very difficult, extremely difficult."

Her body was discovered Monday near 3300 South and 1200 West."

(Also reminded of Amy Ahonen...how did she end up in the water?)

I wonder if she jumped/fell or was dumped from the bridge?
