Family of missing Utah college student pleads for help finding her
[...]

Mackenzie Lueck, 23, texted her parents that she had landed safely in Salt Lake City at 1:00 am on Monday, but she has not been heard from since, the family said in a statement.

"Since Monday, she has missed her midterms at the University of Utah and has not been in communication with family or friends," the statement said.

[...]

The Salt Lake City police also put out a statement on Saturday that Lueck was considered missing.

Lueck took a Lyft from the airport to an address in North Salt Lake, police said in a statement, adding that Lyft and the driver had cooperated with the investigation.

[...]

Lueck's family said she had planned to fly from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles on July 23.

She had just returned back to Utah after attending her grandmother's funeral, according to a notice from the Missing Pieces Network posted to the "Find MacKenzie Lueck" Facebook page.

This is a weird one, in part, because we know so little about the circumstances of her disappearance.

The way this is going though, with minimal information being shared, I’m far more confident than usual of a happy ending here.

I think that in the near future, we will hear something to the effect of “Kenzie has been located safely, and she is no longer considered missing.”
<modsnip> I think something was going on with Kenzie that maybe her friends weren’t as aware of. Maybe she confided something to a family member over the weekend.

BBM:

I completely agree with what you said here.

I've always gotten a bit of a "voluntarily missing" vibe from this case, and based on what we know, which admittedly is not much, I do think that's what LE will discover.

The fact that her parents didn't immediately come out to SLC is somewhat telling, I believe.

Hopefully, LE will discover where she's at sooner rather than later...the longer it takes to locate ML, the less confident I am of a positive outcome.

And disregard my last post. Her family is speaking up now. I’m not sure what to think.

Generally in cases the aspect of trafficking always comes up.

While we explore all options, the first thing I want to note is that IF this is a possibility in this case, the first thing traffickers are likely going to do is cut and dye her hair. Again this is why I’m glad @chihuahua has alerted truckers.
Additionally, they may take photos of her in a motel room where you can’t see her face, sometimes in the bathroom or lying on the bed. She may be drugged.

There has been nothing in msm to indicate this as a possibility, but I did want to at least note this.

It does come up a lot, and I don’t think it has ever been the case.

Not even once.

College students don’t get kidnapped and forced into sex trafficking.

It’s a grooming process, one that can take months or years.

I know, and I knew that was coming :).

I had to get it off my chest just in case.

Ha! It fires me up, because the reality is not what most people think it is.

How they think it works, is not how it actually works.

There are cases MassGuy I could cite where this did happen, ftr. :) That’s for another time and place though.

I would not rule this out as a possibility, JMO. Is this my be all end all theory? Of course not, but there is nothing in this case to indicate it absolutely could not be a possibility.

Check back in later, this is a real sad situation.
Hoping she is safe and back where she should be when I check back in.
A chihuahua cannot live on coffee alone.

Precisely.

The trafficking angle is a total non-starter here.

I put the odds of this being a trafficking case at roughly 1:1,000,000,000,000,000.
I'm not sure if that amounts to one-in-a-gajillion or one-in-umptillion.
I'd have to count all the zeros.

Point being, when you do the math here, it doesn't add up to a sex trafficking case.

I always want to think trafficking too. I think it's the most... maybe "logical" or... best case scenario where the victim is at least still alive and not just vanished out of thin air. KWIM? No city is immune. I was pretty convinced about it with Mollie Tibbets but was not even CLOSE.

But I have to agree with @MassGuy there is usually grooming and/or a "boyfriend" of sorts who gets these girls trapped into it.

I think ML voluntarily went NOT home after leaving the airport.. and maybe even left THAT destination voluntarily... there's just too many possibilities right now.

MOO

Utah college student MacKenzie Lueck missing after ride-share from airport
[...]

She texted her parents around 1 a.m. June 17 to let them know that her flight had landed in Utah and then hailed a ride to an address in North Salt Lake through Lyft.

Police said Lueck was last seen at that address early Monday. It's not immediately clear if that North Salt Lake address was her home or another destination.

[...]

Salt Lake City police confirmed that both Lyft and the driver were cooperating with their investigation. Investigators said they have "not discovered any information that would lead us to believe that MacKenzie has been harmed or is in danger at this time" but added that detectives "are concerned for MacKenzie's welfare."
