Found Deceased UT - Michael Cavallari, 30, Grand County, 27 Nov 2015

So if he's going into the store, why is he bringing things in? I guess it doesn't really matter because honestly I do think he took the wrong exit, got lost, turned around, missed the curve, crashed his car, got hurt, walked away, and he's out there somewhere (maybe in his state of mind he thought he should leave the car running in case it wouldn't start again when he returned with help?!). But he has a bag in one hand and a box or something small in the other and he's going in to the gas station. Weird. I cant think of why he would have things with him.

Regarding the store, the door looks like it probably only opens one way with inverted hinges for security. The hinges would be on the outside edges, and since the pull side is always the secure side, he is entering the store. (also the height ruler on the left as someone else pointed out). This is typical to ensure fire safety (so debris can't block the door from being entered from the outside and anyone trapped inside can push through). Reference, see Exits: https://www.peoriaaz.gov/uploadedfiles/peoriaaz/departments/fire/inspectorguide.pdf

I think it is strange that supposedly (has this been confirmed?) his car was headed TOWARDS the interstate, 5 miles from it.

This makes me think four other things, are all possibilities:

RSBM

5. I was wondering if it were possible to come by that location through the desert heading west from Monticello. Judging by the cleanliness of the car, it doesn't look like it did dirt roads for too long, but just throwing it out there.

No way is he buying beer in UT at 3am. When we head to Moab we stop at Frutia, CO because it is the last beer stop before UT.

I've never bought beer in Utah at 3:30 am, but Mavericks sell 3.2 beer in huge coolers in the back of the store during the day. I don't know if there is a time "lock-up" where they can't sell the 3.2 beer. Real liguor, via take-out, is sold only in Utah-state-run liquor stores which have hours around 11 am to 9 pm, depending upon the location. The oddest thing about Utah is that the state-run liquor stores I've been to only sell fancy beer - not the regular, full-strength Bud or Coors. To get Bud, Coors, PBR, etc, one has to go to the gas station stores or a grocery store, and I'm pretty sure it's 3.2.

Just to add to the beer discussion. Since he's a heavy drinker, or likely an alcoholic, it would probably take him over a dozen of the watered down 3.2 beers just to get a slight buzz. Probably more like a whole case to get him drunk.

I think most states only sell 3.2 beer in grocery/convenience stores.

Thank you Jersey Girl for Grand County, Utah, Sheriff White's update.

I think he's trying to be positive, but frankly that dirt road is desolated. I doubt any ATV camper on the BLM rec area above the Green River, waaaaaay down the road by at least 8 miles, or any energy worker dealing with the natural gas pipeline which runs parallel to Ruby Ranch Road and the gas collection station 1/4 mile from where the Honda crashed, happened upon Michael.

The sheriff said it was frozen ground and thus no footprints. So I stand corrected, as the clay/sand soils were really fluffy when I was there Dec 8. The huge cold front came in Nov 27, so maybe things were frozen in the morning of Nov 27 after the rancher called dispatch.

The Grand County Sheriff's Office, BLM rangers, NPS rangers, Moab search and rescue, and jeep/biking/back-country/helicopter-scenic-touring commercial outfitters, are the best in the business. They will find Michael.

I think it is strange that supposedly (has this been confirmed?) his car was headed TOWARDS the interstate, 5 miles from it.

This makes me think four other things, are all possibilities:
1) He had "business" down that road (meeting someone for some reason) and/or knew someone who lived down that way. It didn't go well. They chased him down.

2) He was drunk or on drugs and had no clue what he was doing. If this is the case he is probably in the area as others are saying, but no longer living. :(

3) Something happened between the gas station and where his car was found. Did he stop somewhere else and meet someone with ill intentions? Make someone angry? He could have went down that exit to lose someone chasing him, turned around, and tried driving back to the interstate. Maybe he looked back for a minute to see if they were behind him, and then hit the rock.

4) Either someone was following him to Utah and he didn't know, or he stopped somewhere and someone got into his vehicle whether knowingly or unknowingly. A hitch hiker?

Just trying to think of new possibilities. To me this screams foul play. I would be checking out men in his ex gf's family (since he was just arrested and it was related to her). All of it seems fishy to me.

Good thoughts but I'm pretty sure it's number 2, as there are not hitch-hikers and such in November. This is Mormon, Adventist, desert-junkie, and generally-non-druggie country. Yeah, sure, during the tourist season April to September, there are people wandering up hwy 191 in search of Edward Abbey's "Desert Solitaire" or searching for personal reflection in the magnificent but stark Utah desert. But things really close down at the end of October. It is really really cold in the Utah desert after Halloween. I seriously doubt Michael happened upon ANYBODY that early morning of Nov 27. I think this poor child was spinning due to paranoid schizophrenia or mania, took that Floy exit, went down that road, tried to turn back, went careening into the desert, and then wandered.

Once he's found, I guess the discussion will be how he, or his loved ones, could've gotten him help. Thank goodness the shotgun was confiscated and this didn't escalate to threaten the safety of another person. So very sad.

IMO I believe he is deceased by now. I'm sadden that the fathers have left already, that SAR didn't happen that day that included dogs and helicopters (why the delay) and Mike got tired and confused and got into an accident.

The police probably saw empty alcohol containers in the car that's why they mentioned "probably drunk" in articles. Who knows maybe he thought the CIA was tracking him and went into hiding. Mental illness is so scary and sad...as his family knows all too well.

Deceased where? How far could he have gone without cadaver dogs finding his body.

Jmo. The woman that he threatened to kill needs to watch her back.

I think this guy is circling the wagon to execute her. Jmo.

I only say this since he has not been found while LE supposedly searched an humongous area. Jmo.

But that shotgun that he got caught with wasn't the only gun he has.

He probably wants his ex to think that he is long gone and possibly dead; Just so he can sneak up on her for a murder suicide situation. Jmo for now. But I respect yours as well.

That's what I was saying earlier. They need to make sure she is in a safe area until he is found. No matter what! I generally think the best of everyone and tend to give the benefit of the doubt, but if they have been searching and haven't located his body, I feel this female needs to be in serious hiding until he is found!

Yes, and it says 'PUSH' on the door he's not enterinng from. One can only get out of a store by using backside/side (I do this all the time and I amm left handed) if the door is PUSH and not PULL. Pull to enter, push to exit. MOO

If he's wandering around in the desert and was drinking before he got there, he'll not last very long.

I think it's possible he's deceased and still in the area. I also think he might have left on his own, so I'm not married to either idea and I respect your opinion. :) But we've seen it happen where a body is found in an area that was searched by people and/or dogs.

She definitely needs protection and to not be left alone until someone figures out where he is.

What kind of wildlife is in the area?

If he was, and he passed out he probably died of hypothermia on the first night.

I still don't think he walked away from the airbags uninjured. The impact is tremendous.

Does anyone know what kind of animals/wildlife are in that area at this time of year?
