SABBM:
The estranged wife of Utah murder suspect Ayoola Ajayi says she was forced to flee their turbulent marriage when he slashed her with a butcher's knife and threatened to kidnap her.

He is still legally married to mother-of-four Tenisha Jenkins Ajayi, but the pair have not seen one another for years after she went into hiding and changed her cell phone because of his violent outbursts.

‘He was telling me not to talk to anybody. He used to check up on me. He started to get more and more aggressive. Eventually he said he would kill me if I didn’t go to Utah.'

'He tried to tie me up with a phone chord. When I went to run he blocked the door. I ended up jumping through a window and cutting my arm on the glass' she told DailyMail.com.

'He chased me into the street with a knife and and cut me in the hand. I didn't go to the police but I moved out of my apartment so he couldn’t find me.

The Hepburn-esque photo of her is breathtaking.
I agree. That’s one of my favorite photos of her. Very Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

He may have had the same lawyer. It appears that she is fairly well known for being very confrontational to survivors (I don't ever call people who were raped victims as I want to honor the fact that they did what they had to do to survive.) and using that tactic to get charges dropped or lessened. One of the hardest thing for a survivor to do is the preparation with prosecutors because they must deal with the possible confrontation that will occur in court. These preps are often done multiple times. However, they don't compare with the terrorizing feeling that a survivor has when they are on the stand, in open court, being badgered and re-assaulted by a defense attorney.

I am all for every defendant getting a fair trial with a vigorous defense. But, I have witnessed survivors be brutalized again and again in court. It takes more courage than most can imagine to take a case forward. It is even more challenging internally if a survivor knew the perpetrator or had an intimate relationship with him/her.

ITA, which is why so many sexual assaults go unreported. It's not just the trial that assault victims fear. They also fear later retaliation from the defendant, his friends and family. A victim's entire family faces a safety risk.

interesting article.. it sounds like it was a marriage of convenience/ for him to stay here. She says it wasn't but it seems like it was.
I wondered when she was going to emerge.
She says they are still legally married.
She says when her godmother set her up with him she asked her if he was crazy and if he was a killer?

Seems like a strange thing to ask before a first date. Imo

does a persons name stay 100 percent the same from birth threw immigration or can a name be changed or have part left out, etc?

In theory, no, your name can't change. The petitioner can't change it. When you apply, you have to have your name match your documents exactly or you have to have legal proof as to why there is a discrepancy/change that occurred. Your US documentation will be issued with the name matches your documentation (my child's was issued with the mistake that was on the original birth certificate-- we then had to change the name officially after citizenship was awarded). That said, it is important to review all documents you apply for in any international travel situation because mistakes can happen at embassies or legal systems in the US and other countries. Don't ask me how I know this but I do.

Well, nothing in that article is surprising. If it's all true I am curious about this part,

"I kept telling him I don’t want to be with you, I want a divorce. He wouldn’t sign the papers. His friend from the Army kept calling me, saying they were going to kidnap me."

Wife of Utah murder suspect says he once slashed her hand with a butcher's knife | Daily Mail Online
Well, we can rule out his ex-wife as the person who was raped by him in the past. From the link:

"But, in fact, they never even consummated the marriage.

'I never had sex with him because I was kinda scared of him. Not once. When he drank he became aggressive,' she revealed.

'And I was pregnant with another man's child.' "

MOO No Survivor here.
I suggest the family get right to it and start practicing standing up to extremely tricky and shaming questioning.

It is optional. You have permanent resident status if you have a green card, and never have to apply for US citizenship if you do not want to. According to his jail admission papers he is a US citizen.

He may have come into this country as a petitioner for asylum, especially if the violence he saw/experienced as a child was accurate and qualifies.

See here (When an Asylee or Refugee Can Apply for U.S. Citizenship)
Asylee applying for citizenship
"You may count at least one year of your time as a refugee or asylee toward your required five years of permanent residence. Nearly everyone wishing to apply for U.S. citizenship (naturalization) must prove that he or she has had permanent residence (a green card) for a minimum number of years."

There is more on this site. I have worked with asylees in my setting.

Kidnap and... Sell?? Or what?
And keep captive as a wife was my assumption. She was talking about wanting a divorce by AA wouldn't sign the papers.

You could be correct.

He would have to kidnap her and the four children, too. No?

Just trying to wrap my head around "kidnap".

Kidnap and... Sell?? Or what?

"He is still legally married to mother-of-four Tenisha Jenkins Ajayi, but..."

"Tenisha, 35, insists she married Nigerian IT worker Ajayi, nicknamed AJ, for love rather than any form of financial or immigration arrangement"

Is she lying or DM got it wrong? We know the divorce is finalized this Jan.

Everything about this marriage sounds like a well planned sham marriage. (What happens when you trust your Nigerian Prince)

So he does smoke weed according to the article.

Probably more gay or not in to Black women IMO according to the article

I think my thought process was AA has a friend that would call a woman and threaten to kidnap her. I still think AA acted alone but if you are the kind of guy to threaten to kidnap someone's wife what else are you capable of. It's possible this guy knew of AA's sexual tastes. I would hope LE finds him and interviews what he knows.
