I've been gone a few days, but wanted to write out some thoughts that came to me over the weekend. Keep in mind, these thoughts are my own as a Salt Lake local and information security professional.

First - why her phone quit sending data at 3 am.
There's been a ton of discussion on this and possible reasons why, including taking the phone, killing her instantly, a third person, etc. Being in my field (infosec), I was thinking through how to cease data exchange without the person realizing what is happening. You'd accomplish this with a cell phone jammer, and you can easily purchase a hand-held one online. This would also jam his phone and potentially kill tracking of both devices. Going further, he could have claimed "oh, my phone won't connect either, must be an outage" or something similar.

Second - and this has to do with my first point, is cameras.
Utah has a commuter camera system in place up and down Interstates 15, 215 and 80. There's even cameras on some surface streets. I do not know how sophisticated the cameras are on the backend, but, I do believe at that time in the morning, if the police knew where to look, they could potentially track his vehicle. His home is located not far from a major intersection with on-ramps and off-ramps to I-15 and would easily be noticed on the camera footage. Even without his cell phone pings to track, there's potential here to track via video.

Third - this goes with the second point.

Utah police use plate scanners, which effectively scan a given area for license plate numbers and return results for violations, such as expired registration, etc. This technology allows police to aggregate plate data that could place a given vehicle at the scene of the crime.

The reason I think two and three are viable, is because LE required specific information to get the warrant for his home that they obtained. They're precise, and they had to have a strong belief that he was involved, the home was a crime scene and that specific things would be found there.

Great points and it reminds me of something I have wondered and thought from the beginning but somewhat forgot about.

When they served the warrant and stayed all night and were inside upstairs, downstairs, in the garage, and digging in the yard, it said to me they had a fairly extensive warrant, not like one where they can just go in for instance looking for a firearm or just certain things like electronics or they had a judge on call to grant other warrants as they found things that gave reason to have further search capabilities.

So that says to me they had some ample reason for what looked to be an extensive search warrant and it was not just that she had contact with him, it came from additional other evidence, or witnesses/people with information, etc. They had something pretty solid. We also do not know the contents of the texts which could be part of it.

Just a non-expert opinion.

Or in Shona language translates to "Load the truck stick" ???

"Shona /ˈʃoʊnə/ (chiShona) is a Bantu language of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. It is one of the most widely spoken Bantu languages." - wiki

The woman said he looked like a bat... and there's a Yoruba proverb that says: "Ko seye to le dori kodo bi adan, afi eyi ti eje yio t'enu re jade." English translation: "Hanging upside down is the unique nature of a bat, any bird that tries to imitate this unique nature will see blood running down its mouth."
I assumed it was Yoruba... and it most certainly is. There are a lot of Nigerian people commenting in Yoruba on this woman's FB and also on her mother's FB. Most of her replies to AA are in Yoruba and when translated make perfect sense.

Check with a mod to be sure - my understanding is that we don't use full names on anyone even if MSM uses the name unless they are POI/suspect. It leads to sleuthing which is definitely not allowed. TOS

Thank you for explaining. I was too late to edit, so I self reported.

The mountains look like Utah and it looks like him, and he has the pic on FB, so I would assume it is him.
It was filmed in Snowbird, UT. :)

Thank you. :)

Okay, so could he have been renting it prior to purchase? Maybe a rent-to-own? His friend, SM, said he moved there in January 2018 and rented one of the downstairs airbnb rooms.

Can someone post a link to the Venmo that shows the rent payments from SM to AA from Jan - Jul 2018? TIA
Realtor.com says it last sold in 2017, but it also says it was listed in January 2018. 547 N 1000 W, Salt Lake City, UT 84116 - realtor.com®

01/04/2018 Listed $259,900 $140 WFRMLS

The realtor listing with photos posted earlier on thread showed the listing date early January 2018 followed immediately by offer/contract pending. Closing date of Feb 26, 2018 would be reasonable.

The SLC County assessor does not show property sales history but AA is definitely cited as the lawful owner for both 2018 & 2019.

Also, don't know if Redfin the best source -- they may be showing the date they dropped this listing as no longer available.

When he used the word “nexus” referring to the suspect, I assumed he was using it to show that many facts/pieces of evidence pointed to him as the nexus of the disappearance of ML. I didn’t get the impression that he was referring to other people. But of course that’s a possibility.

Definition of nexus | Dictionary.com

ETA: “Nexus” actually referred to the house, as I see MassGuy has pointed out.

"ETA: “Nexus” actually referred to the house, as I see MassGuy has pointed out."

Yes, as you and MG point out, it could be him or his house. My point was the word *nexus* meant it went back outWards after it went back to him.

Otherwise, why use the word nexus?
I'm trying to comprehend with vocabulary why use that word unless it goes back towards him and then back out to some others? I guess it is perhaps my background and the use of that word scientifically.

I would analogize it to a patient zero for a communicable disease, and trace it back to one person who originated it. And then they can find many people going back out from the Nexus /patient zero.

Just an extremely interesting choice of word used, and showing how many interpretations there are amongst us.

Yes, but statistically speaking, his chance of being a Muslim or a Christian is higher.

It would be interesting what was his original religion when he came to the US.

All joking aside, there’s a solid chance that it was the same as the religious background of the protagonist of his novel. I have no idea if that was mentioned or even hinted at. His name was Ezekiel. @MassGuy?

Regarding Fetlife: I’d prefer not to say too much, so I’ll just use keywords.

Breath play - can be VERY dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Suspended Hogtie Bondage

Suspension

BBC - not sure if you can figure out what those initials stand for. To be safe, I’m not going to write it out.

First word is BIG.

BBM...Of course. Everything about him is big....beginning with his lies, deceptions, and his ego.

He joined Airbnb as a user in 2016:

Everything in this area generally sells the same day it is listed, at least in the last 3 years. So if it was listed in January, I would assume it sold within a day.

If the protagonist has a religious background, it must be mentioned after page 11.

I wouldn’t hold your breath on an answer, atleast from me.:p

ok, so no proven tie to him- the flag?

I believe there was a file attached for the property record. I’m on mobile too hard to find for me.

IMHO we need to figure if he was in London. If so, how does he get to go there when his visa was for the us?
Online and/or virtual school attendance?

Boy I don't think I've seen such a convoluted appraiser/tax collector/recording website(s) as these in Salt Lake County - even the tax collector search shows him as the owner when I flip to prior years going back to 2015 which we know is not true. It's odd they don't have the history of when a property changes hands readily available to the public IMO. I'm guessing because the recorder is a for-profit center and you have to pay for the deeds so realtor.com and those sites can't link to the history. Also, I did a spokeo search and he has a court record somewhere out there - I do not believe it is this recent arrest and I don't know if the 2014 incident would be that record. JMO

MOO may have changed but going back to the Continental army foreign nationals could join, and work toward citizenship. Brits, Cubans and lots others have become Americans by this path.

Right:

I’ve heard lots of different words and phrases used in situations like this.

I think it’s more important to focus on the context, as opposed to the particular word choice.

Obviously, the house was the focus of the investigation.

It is the single most important location in this entire thing.

Hence, “nexus.”

IMO, those dates look like the remodel flip.
and there is a big jump in assessed value I saw - something was definitely going on with that piece of property IMO. Is he a flipper?

"For some reason the word "nexus" used in one PC by LE sticks with me and there are a few things that can mean..."

I did the same double-take when I saw that word also. I went on the internet to do a visual of it from when I worked. It means one person is Central to many things. M o o.

At that time I Googled the word nexus for a visual image, and almost every single thing ways for a cell phone.

Nexus in my mind, is that you go into one person and then you find many many more. This is just a visual example for such for families. From the source of Google and the word nexus scientific evidence genealogy nexus map - Google Search

The central person in the middle is the Nexus. And you can start at an outlier, go into the middle person, and then go back out to many many other people. I just could not find a better example
Great post. The word nexus certainly stood out during the press conference.

Since the term was used by LE, wouldn’t she be the center of the nexus? I assume they were working from the victim outward to those connected to her.
