I am currently working on a blog entry for this Doe, for Can You Identify Me. Does anyone have a list of ruled-outs yet?

Just so happens that this NamUs casefile was updated yesterday.

the closest potential match I have found is Sylvia Lee, lka October 31, 1995 age 17 in Santa Clara County, CA.

She was 5'0" and a little heavier than the estimate for this UID. facial resemblance is not bad but no reference to any spinal issues.

Thank you so much, Carl! We like to include a list of ruled-outs (if possible) in the CYIM files when we blog about the unidentified.

There's definitely a resemblance, but I would say probably not, based on circumstances. The prime suspect, Larry Dewayne Hall, confessed to her murder in details not publicly known. Her blood was found near the area in Indiana where she disappeared. It is quite a stretch to think the killer transported her body 1500 miles just to dispose of her body.

And although both were wearing a strap-necklace, they clearly weren't the same strap-necklace. Tricia's was made of leather. Saltair Sally's was made of rope and beads.

I was looking through the Washington state missing and came across these, they haven't been ruled out.
Katya's picture fit very nicely over the first and second reconstruction. Width and length of her nose, her eyes, and mouth lined up. Although Jane Doe has been ruled as white. I wish I knew if they came to that conclusion by the hair structure, facial measurements, or her dentition. (just thinking out loud here)
Not sure what to do with this information other than post it here.

I am surprised the following two women have not been mentioned. There may be something I don't know:

1. Nikole Kristina Bakolis/Bakoles:
https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/7246/13/
UT UT - Nikole Kristina Bakoles, 19, Midvale, Nov 1999 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

Video Update: http://www.abc4.com/content/news/st...The-Unsolved-Case/ZlFeIgdNqEiyZc8piH16aw.cspx

Last Seen: November 1999
Reported Missing: March 2000
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 115

Case Similarities:
In the last few years before she went missing, Nikole Kristina Bakolis traveled fairly frequently between the state of Utah and the state of Washington, matching the frequent travel pattern suggested by the hair analysis.

The length of her hair fits the description.

Case Discrepancies:
One source indicates that she was arrested in Washington in 2006; however, I have not been able to verify this or find any reference to this, nor have the websleulths who investigated her disappearance in the link above. I think it is possible this was a mis-report or perhaps someone using her name.

She has been listed along side this Jane Doe, "Sally Saltair" for a lengthy period of time, suggesting that she may have been internally ruled out by police.

2. Bobbi Ann Campbell:
https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/1363/15/
http://www.utahsright.com/missingprofile.php?id=39

Video Update: Missing Cold Case Utah: Where is Bobbi Ann Campbell? - YouTube

Missing Since: 12/27/1994
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 105 lbs

Case Similarities:
Her appearance looks to me to be very much like the forensic artist reconstruction.

Bobbi Ann Campbell's car was found abandoned at the Jordan River, which empties into the Great Salt Lake in the same area that Saltair is located.

Case Discrepancies:
I cannot find a source or a picture that shows her hair to be long enough to be considered waist length.

Her age is a little older than has been suggested.

She has been listed along side this Jane Doe, "Sally Saltair" for a lengthy period of time, suggesting that she may have been internally ruled out by police.

Any thoughts on all of this?

*sigh* Confusing information..... NamUs states in one place that "The decedent had long, light brown/auburn hair which fell slightly below her shoulders."

That would make Bobbi Ann Campbell's hair possibly long enough, if this information is correct.

It seems that they should have checked out Nicole despite that her height is significantly off. I am not seeing the resemblance on Bobbi, but that's JMHO.

I would guess that they both have been eliminated by police before NamUs was in existence. But they should list them in NamUs, so that we don't have to call them up to ask.

  • #75
Yes, that would be my guess too.... that they were both eliminated before all of today's Internet resources were available and the online information on these women was just never created to reflect this. I would be surprised if they had not compared these cases back in 2000, but I figure it was worth mentioning.

Thanks for replying. I have read these boards for a long time, but only recently engaged in posting my thoughts. It is encouraging.

Here are some women who resemble Saltair Sally within the timeframe. Any opinions about who is the most likely match?

https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/229/277/

Water evidence seems to rule her out but she really resembles the reconstruction.

Jennifer Harrison
https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/2981/285?current_page=case_information
Fits the water evidence.

Katrina Sweeny
https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/7785/289?current_page=circumstances
Fits the water evidence.

Amanda Gallion
https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/6095/295?current_page=case_information
Least resembles the reconstruction but fits the water evidence.

All three (Jennifer, Katrina, and Amanda) fit the description, and should be checked.

All three (Jennifer, Katrina, and Amanda) fit the description, and should be checked.

Just realized though, that the Jane Doe's DNA profile is in CODIS, and the NamUs casefiles for Amanda and Katrina indicate "Sample Submitted - Tests Complete", which probably (but not definitely) means that they are in CODIS. If so, then we would have a rule-out by default on those two.

According to Jennifer Hudson's NamUs profile, a DNA sample is not available.

I'm going to look into the 2006 Nikole Bakoles arrest; I'll post this on the Nikole Bakoles thread but thought I would mention it here as well. I spent a few hours yesterday and couldn't find any arrest for her after 1999 and would have expected to have found this using the resources I did. However, I found that listings for her with different spellings of both her first and last name so I need to look some more. I will update on what I find out.

I'm thinking on what other possible matches there could be for this case but I am coming up empty so far. I operated under the assumption that this woman was connected to the area. But the hair analysis suggests her last few years were transient.

Additionally, the bones were found 100 feet off of Interstate-80. So another question coming to my mind is was this death an accident (such as a drug overdose or a medical condition), or was her body dumped in this place by someone who killed her?

If Sally Saltair is a murder victim, I-80 would have served as a good corridor to transport a body to a place where it would not be found immediately, as well as a place away from the crime and the victim's residence. If this is the case, then searching for missing persons in Utah, Wyoming, and Nevada near the I-80 area would be a good way to go.

It's been a while since I was in this area, but if memory serves me right, this would not be a place where one would be unless they were hitch-hiking or were a passenger in a car that pulled off of I-80.

Ok, I hope these thoughts stimulate some better thoughts.
