I agree, I dont think he planned this at all. Crime of passion IMO.

Let me speak on something else in our society. We have come a long way in this country regarding womens rights and equality, which is awesome. But there is this wife hating tone in this nation that I've seen creep up a lot lately. In TV shows, movies, radio, music etc. I know a lot of it is tongue in cheek and veiled jokes, but this behavior is rubbing off on our sons and effecting our daughters.

I see on TV how married life is portrayed as a life killer. Men complaining about their wives and how being married is so horrible and how they envy the single guys. It's as if being married is the worst thing in the world and the wives are the bane of their husbands existance. They try to get away from the wife, don't want to hang out with the wife, fight with the wife. I know any marriage isnt perfect, but I know that my husband is my best friend and his male friends tease him about it.

They say he is whooped or under my thumb. They can't understand why or how my husband actually likes being around me! I'm not some nagging wife that my husband cant wait to leave. I just don't get it. What do people think marriage is? Some freakin fairy tale???

They have a baby and get mad and jealous. They want the wife to handle most of the child care, but then get mad that the baby gets most of the attention!!

I think this thinking has cause a lot of controlling freaks to want to cheat, divorce or even kill their wives. They want out. They want a servant and not a wife, not a partner.

This post deserves a repeat, in case some missed it. Our boys and young men are being conditioned to be self-indulgent, irresponsible husbands and fathers. An honorable husband and father is not defined as just paying the bills or worse, child support, but this is all it takes to be an honorable man in the eyes of the media and a large portion of our society!

My greatest respect goes to those parents who take an active attitude in raising boys and girls to learn to work together, take care of eachother, and grow up to be responsible, caring, and committed husbands and wives!

If they didn't have gas in the house (meaning electric heat), there would be no explanation for the presence of carbon monoxide.

Carbon monoxide is a by-product of combustion. The generator would burn gasoline, and produce CM that can poison people, even if there is partial ventilation.

That's why it is recommended that people place them outside of their residence, preferably away from the wind.

Natural gas (mostly methane) is used for cooking and heating. It can poison people when there are leaks, and is VERY volatile.

Both extremely dangerous.

Maybe his plan included the boys? --this probably is not that likely, but maybe he took the boys sledding while committing the first murder through carbon monoxide, so their mother would be out of the way-- then he came home, changed his mind about any further murder/suicide and took the boys and their mother out of the house to hide her body? IDK

Mainly I am posting because I am worried about the boys-- the forensic psychiatrist interviewed on GMA had some interesting insights on this case, to include his suggestion that taking the boys out Sunday night might have been indicative of an original intention of familicide --

Now that he is a POI, and seems to be losing credibility with his in-laws, I think there is a great danger
ITA, I feel for the family he is staying with and the sons.......JP might not go down easy! Is he arrested yet!!!!????

Too often we see these family murder/suicides in the news lately.

Not that I'm saying that's what was planned for the family, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

IMO I feel like it was either a spur of the moment kill. He had no time to come up with a plan and good cover story. Or something did not go as planned and he panicked. I cannot sit here and believe that the camping in the middle of the night with the boys was part of some well thought out plot to get rid of his wife. I may be giving him too much credit but he can't be that stupid!

I think what happened to mess up his plan was family calling police so soon. I think he planned this, and I think he told the sledding story with a purpose.. he intended it to be his alibi... he goes sledding while his wife is napping and finds her missing when he gets home. When he got the phone calls from people saying his wife was missing and they had called the cops he 1) had to drive back from wherever he disposed of his body 2) had to quick change his story.

I think he was the most shaken up because LE broke a window to get in his house and saw his messy clean up job with the fans still dryinig the area before he could finish that clean up himself. He was not shaken up for his wife... just himself.

moo of course

I vote for premeditation just because of the story told to the guest and Susan's strange behavior in the middle of having a friend over. Oh and also the fact that he cooked dinner that night as well. Just too many coincidences for me.

Susan Powell's brother says Josh Powell could be arrested soon

Also Thursday, police admitted they had interviewed the Powells' 4-year-old son and he told investigators that he did go camping with his dad. But McLachlan declined to answer any other questions regarding that interview, such as whether the boy clarified whether they went camping on the day Josh Powell said they did or if he meant a different time, or where they went.

Susan Powell's family, meanwhile, has scheduled a press conference Thursday afternoon in their hometown of Puyallup, Wash. Seven members of Susan Powell's family are expected to meet with the media. The reason for the press conference is unclear, but family members are expected to field questions after a brief statement is read.

On Wednesday, Deseret News sources said West Valley police collected several items from Susan Powell's office last week, including a notebook the mother of two kept in her desk at work, possibly containing information about her relationship with her husband. The notebook, according to one source, detailed threats allegedly made about a year ago against the missing West Valley woman.

In an interview with NBC's "Today Show" Thursday morning, his brother-in-law Kirk Graves expressed the family's wishes for Josh to be more helpful with the investigation.

"We wish he would do everything necessary to help us find Susan," Graves said. "We understand his desire to get an attorney. We wish that attorney would advise him to be a little more assertive and focus on what is good for Susan right now."

Graves also said his brother-in-law could be controlling, and was an "interesting person" with a "different" personality.

Susan Powell's family was scheduled to hold a press conference in Seattle Thursday afternoon. They have said they would read a statement and then answer questions.

Susan Powell Disappearance: Relatives Preparing for Husband's Arrest
Police Say Foul Play 'Likely' in Utah Mom's Disappearance
Dec. 17, 2009

"Josh's reasons for not wanting to approach the police department or come and work with us in a little more forthcoming manner have kind of generated some controversy among the officers," Black said. '"And it's something that's been questioned by the community members who have been following the case."

During the interview Tuesday with his lawyer present, Powell responded to basic questions about the clothes his wife was wearing and what her jewelry looked like, Black said, but even after being reminded that this was in the best interest of his wife, Joshua Powell refused to answer "hard, direct questions."

He declined to elaborate on exactly what questions Powell would not answer.
