Has anyone mentioned Kathryn Margaret VanDine?

http://pennsylvaniamissing.com/vandinekatherine.html

She disappeared in May 1995, so the timeline is off but not inconceivable. Plus, her husband had died shortly before she disappeared. That story is possible with our JD; that she was so sad she committed suicide..

Vital Statistics
Date of Birth: November 20, 1920
Age at Time of Disappearance: 74
Height: 5'3"
Weight: 180 lbs
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Brown

It also sounds like she had the money to shop at a place like Saks Fifth Avenue.

I was just reading back through the information available on this lady, and a new thought occurred to me. The listing says she had Medic Alert DNA necklace. At least now, you can't get a DNR Medic Alert unless you show evidence that you have a DNR order, and I believe most (all?) Medic Alert IDs are registered. There are also differences by state law in how the IDs need to be engraved.

I don't see a picture of the ID itself in the records posted here, but a standard Medic Alert would have been engraved with some information on specifics and would have a way for a medical facility to verify the DNR order.

Unfortunately the medic alert bracelet is pretty standard and was not engraved.

She must have had a chronic illness if she had a DNR bracelet as that's not very common. Did they find any disease on autopsy? That could possibly help be a link to clues

They didn't do an autopsy at her request -- she's cremated, her ashes in a vase at the local police station.

Hello All!

Newbie here! I was looking at the missing and unidentified sites and this case truly struck me when I first read it, especially since I am in Virginia. I came across a missing woman approx. age, matching hair and to my eyes, a possible resemblance, but there is a bizarre coincidence with the dates. Shirley Sprang's (NamUs MP # 14199) last contact with anyone was 12/19/1996, our Christmas Jane Doe was discovered 12/18/1996. Is it possible that the last contact date might be in some way an error? Or maybe she was so desperate to be unidentified that she got someone to contact (didn't see what the contact was) law enforcement as a ruse? Also scar match is not very hopeful. Strange thoughts, huh?

Welcome!

I think she is an interesting possibility and wouldn't be as bothered by the date if that was the last time a friend or her family thought they saw her. But the fact that it was LE, and that it was in Nebraska a day after the UID was found in VA, is problematic to me. I'm interested to hear what others think.

Ty FiveFelines! I agree there are some doubts. But I cannot get past the coincidence of the dates! I'd love to know what "had contact with her" means. Was she married, did she have children, was it a car stop by an officer, did she explain where she'd been for 6.5 years...ahhhhhhhh! Yes, opinions please!

It's a long shot, but what do you guys think of Arlene Stewart? Not a lot of info on her but it says she walked away from her home in Skagit, WA in 1992. I see a slight resemblance in the face and the glasses are pretty similar. Height is on and she has curly hair.

Boy those glasses must have been the rage!
I wish we could see her ears in that pic. Thats how I judge a close match.

I know! And I haven't found anything else on her. Looks like she was added to Namus last year. Not on CP.

Interesting that Ms Stewart went missing in December 4 years prior. If this is our UID maybe there was something about that time of year that was important or very distressful for her. Looks like there is DNA on Ms Stewart.

I noticed that too. And on Christmas Eve, I believe! I saw that she has DNA on file but am still not clear on whether that is automatically checked in Namus (I think it depends on the type of DNA?). In any case, I do think she is probably not our Doe but wanted to bring her up for discussion. I can see both pros and cons.
