What is the HELL is taking them so long to positively identify little Aveion? Did I miss something? I don't even want to think about it. Possibly a combination of what BL did to him, and being transported in the trash truck? But it didn't take them this long to identify Somer...

Somer was a little older and must have had dental records. In my state, it is law the children have a dental exam in kindergarten. I am assuming Somer saw a dentist and most likely had xrays even if she had no dental work done other than a cleaning and xrays. I'm sure Aveion did not have dental care at his young age, so I think the only way to id is through DNA which will take a little longer. I did read they were possibly going to see if they can id him via finger prints or hospital foot prints but I don't see how that is possible given the time between him being reported missing and being found. I too don't even want to imagine what you said you didn't want to imagine either.

JMO.

A new search warrant on file Tuesday morning in circuit court claimed investigators had information Lockett had been “making statements referring to an unknown person and cell phone number receiving Aveion Lewis’ dead body… for disposal.“

So *someone* claims to have overheard him talking about disposing of Aveion's body.

Gee. I wonder who that could be. Sounds like *someone* has struck a deal with the DA.

  • #387
Since *someones* statements were false previously, why would LE believe *someones* statements are now no longer false?

God I hope the DA doesn't strike a deal with this 🤬🤬🤬. The time to strike a deal was before Aveions remains were found. Not now that he's trying to save his arse since his step sons remains have been found. :furious:

I'm thinking *someone* is ML.

I know BL is dumber than a box of rocks, but I don't think he's stupid enough to discuss such a thing in front of anyone not aware that Aveion was dead. And IMO that could only be ML (as I remain convinced she knew all along he'd been murdered).

Thanks Calliope. All I can comment with right now is does the entire police department in Roanoke suffer from Barney Fife syndrome? Because this has to be the strangest way I have ever seen an investigation handled.

If I comment any further on this case right now I will get banned so I'll excersize self discipline and leave it at that.

I know what you mean. I wonder if it may be because (thankfully) this sort of thing is unheard of around here. I'm hoping they are simply not tipping their hand and doing a good job of keeping things under wraps for now. The fact that they immediately went to the landfill after the alleged "abduction" to ID and then isolate the trash is promising, as was bringing in an expert to assist them in how to search through the landfill, admitting they didn't have the necessary experience to do so on their own. That tells me that maybe they are on top of things. I hope so.

IF this is a result of a deal struck with ML, it could be that they know that is their best chance of a conviction. It's pretty obvious who killed that baby. I'm convinced ML knew he was dead. Perhaps she didn't have a hand in actually killing him but rather obstructing the investigation after the fact (I believe she was lying in her statements to the police on 1/14). The police did say early on (before BL admitted Aveion was dead) that those two were not cooperating fully.

I wonder too if this has anything to do with his memorial being postponed at kinda the last minute? I know, weather and all that, but most roads were passable by Sunday afternoon. I just thought it odd they'd wait so late to make that announcement.

Just wondering...

Before BL confessed that Aveion was dead, the FBI and state police were in on this case. Are they still involved? It seems as though it's all Roanoke city police now; I wonder if they received help from the other agencies in how to proceed with this.

Checking the Roanoke Times site, nothing there about either Morgan or Aveion.

It's all snow, all the time.

Whenever it rains or snows, they all turn into a buncha chicken littles

If they aren't they need the outside assistance desperately.

This- from the Roanoke City Police Departments website is why I believe they need the extra help.

Note the guy wanted for 'indent' to distribute marijuana. What exactly did he indent? Spell check anyone?

They can update their website with photos of people arrested for Shoplifting in December From the 'recent shoplifting offenders' area of RPD's website.

A search warrant filed today says the toddler's stepfather, Brandon Lockett, has made statements about a person who received Aveion's body for disposal.

By Amanda Codispoti | The Roanoke Times

A search warrant filed today in Roanoke City Circuit Court says the toddler's stepfather, Brandon Lockett, has made statements about a person who received Aveion's body for disposal. Lockett also provided a cell phone number.

Someone who uses that cell phone number has also used an e-mail address that police discovered on a computer seized from Lockett's home, the search warrant says.

Police are seeking to search the e-mail account and hope that what they might find will either "confirm or dispel" Lockett's statements, identify anyone else involved, and reveal communication about Aveion Lewis, according to the document.

Not really; if you read from the bottom up those are police press releases regarding his "abduction". The last one is from the 19th at 5:15pm, when they announced Aveion was dead:

On January 14, 2010, the Roanoke Police Department received a report of the abduction of Aveion Malik Lewis from the 2100 block of King Charles Avenue. Since then, the department has investigated the reported abduction and received varying degrees of cooperation from key persons in the investigation; which lead police to question the validity of information received from some individuals.

As a result, investigators began to focus on the possibility that Brandon Lockett, Aveion’ step-father was not providing accurate details. Based on conflicting statements given, and significant developments within the last 24 hours, police determined that it was necessary to expand the previous and ongoing ground search. As the search progressed, Police were advised that the reported abduction did not occur. It is with great regret and sadness that the Roanoke Police Department announces that our investigation has moved from an abduction to an investigation into the death of Aveion Malik Lewis. All indications are that Aveion was deceased prior to the 911 call made on January 14. This information has been provided by Brandon Lockett.

January 19th Aveion was still missing, dead, but missing.
Aveion is no longer missing and today is February 2nd.
Aveion is still listed as a missing person at Roanoke Police Departments web site.
'nuff said.

Still no indication as to either to whom he said that or who overheard him making those statements. It doesn't read as though BL confessed that to the police.

I'm thinking they may have left that up on one page with all the information from the "abduction" to when BL confessed in order to have it all in one place in case something there 'jogs' someone's memory of anything they may have heard or seen during that time.

ETA: then again, maybe they haven't had time to clean up their website in the last week. It's been a mess around here :)
