GUILTY VA - Aveion Lewis, 2, Roanoke, 14 January 2010 #3

Good point Calliope!

I don't understand any of this... So very sad to know that this abuse started right back up again basically the minute Aveion went back home. If they didn't want that child...why not just say so and that the other family was taking care of him... But no, apparently ML & BL had to have something to take their frustrations out on...

Poor Aveion....my heart just breaks for him...

bbm..

If they were receiving public assistance for Aveion, would it have stopped while he was in foster care and resume again when he was placed back with ML & BL? Or, would they have continued to receive it while he was away?

My theory is somewhat similar to what went on with the Adam Herrman case.. would they have kept on collecting checks long after Aveion was deceased? Would they have even reported him missing if it weren't for his upcoming birthday and the threat that people would want to see him??

Which begs the question again... didn't ML's family see Aveion on Christmas?

And I don't want to hear them even TRY to claim that baby was "ok" 3 weeks before he died severely emaciated, severely burned, and with untreated broken bones.

Emaciated.

Dammit all to hell.

The service for Aveion was held today... I haven't been able to find a link for it.

R.I.P you handsome little darling. I am so incredibly sorry someone didn't do more to help you. As I look up at the stars tonight, I will know, that God has a new beautiful little angel standing beside him. And that angel is Aveion Malik Lewis.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Family members come together to remember Aveion Lewis

Family members are celebrating the life of a Roanoke toddler whose death made headlines across the country.

Saturday's memorial for Aveion Lewis was a tribute to his short time on earth. It was also a chance for Aveion's family to heal.

In a service filled with songs, stepping and praise, family and friends shared emotion and sorrow for Aveion Lewis.

Lewis died six weeks ago in what's still an open murder investigation. His stepfather, Brandon Lockett, and mother, Morgan Lockett, are charged in his death.

"This was no one's fault, except one person's actions," says Aveion's uncle Joshua Ward.

This service was a chance for Aveion's family to get past the crime and come together.

"Lets just love one another. Don't hold any grudges. Don't hold anything against one another," says Ward.

Relatives shared hugs and flowers. Members of Aveion's mother's family reached out to his father's family.

"We extend an olive branch, and I personally want to just thank you for your support and your patience," said uncle Chris Ward.

A photo of Aveion with his mother was posted in front of the church.

I guess the family is never gonna believe ML had anything to do w/ little Aveion wasting away while he was physically tortured too.

That's exactly what it sounds like.... I just can't believe that all of them are in this deep denial... However, I'm sure they know if they say they don't believe in ML and know what she has done...that this will make them guilty. So they are playing the ML card in a CYA mode... They know that this can fall back to bite them as well and they don't want to be drug in any futher than they already are... JMO

ETA: They are still letting Aveion down... How sad...

I'm sorry but this ticks me off to no end. I'll have to come back to this when I can type a response that isn't laced with profanity.

THAT quote just takes the friggin' cake. Couldn't that little baby boy be remembered ALL BY HIMSELF WITHOUT HIS STINKIN' MOTHER??? She wasn't a mother, she was an abusive egg-donor.

I doubt they allowed the foster family to come to the service, if it were me, and they said I couldn't come, I'd stand outside the church and still show my respect.

It really is a shame that they can't see that ML is just as much at fault for this as BL. We haven't heard from Chris Ward, just the Aunt. I wonder if he feels the same way now knowing what Aveion's physical state was...

Oh and as for extending an olive branch to Aveion and his sister's daddy... I'd tell them to keep their branch.. and maybe they could beat some sense into each other with it!

The extend the olive branch comment from the Wards is extremely offensive and odd. Why would they need to extend an Olive branch to him? Isn't an olive branch saying we forgive you? WTF did Aveions bio daddy need to be forgiven for? It was Morgan who allowed her child to be beat, starved and denied Aveions bio dad to his child.

You know, this Ward family is in such denial, I think even if they had actually SEEN Aveion emaciated with an untreated broken arm and untreated burn they STILL would have been in denial and seen him for how they wanted to see him, a healthy happy child. :furious: :furious: :furious:

Exactly! It is absolutely shameful that they deny ANY accountability. I think that whole service was a horrid attempt to deflect responsibility. One would think that they were the victims, not the helpless child.

BBM for emphasis! The entire comment is SO true! Sadly, so very very true.

Still can't post to this report without cursing a blue streak, but I must say I loved this comment:

So the baby starves to death and most everyone pictured at the service looks like contestants for the Biggest Loser .

That includes his two murderers, btw.

EXACTLY! This is what I mean.. obviously no one else was starving to death around him. Maybe that green leafy substance helps their appetite.

If Aveion became too much to care for, I'm absolutely positive that the foster family would have taken him back, if only Morgan would have offered. But there is no way that while he was in foster care, he caught up to almost normal size, and then within 4-5 months he all of a sudden lost all the weight if he was being properly cared for. It doesn't happen like that. And I refuse to believe that this egg donor didn't see what was happening to her baby. My guess is she didn't care. I still wish I knew the answer to the public assistance question. Ive searched and searched trying to figure it out. It really bothers me that IMO she only wanted Aveion back so that she could get that extra money from the state.

And if that's the case, I hope there's changes to both CPS and PA, regarding what happens when your child is removed from your care due to neglect and abuse. CPS basically said it's out of our hands once Aveion was given back to ML.

Here in NY... They'll show up with cops if you refuse to allow them to see the children. Someone needs to make sure that what these monster's did to Aveion, never happens to another child again.

The state of Virginia and the town of Roanoke should be ashamed that they allowed this to happen. There needs to be a letter writing campaign to the governor, senators, assemblymen, newspapers, and news stations... something begging for a change in how this horribly flawed system works.

This didn't have to happen to this beautiful little baby.. and even though I live in NY, I will be writing to as many people as possible in VA trying to get someone to listen to Aveion's story. I've already started collecting as many pictures as I can so that I can include them in my emails and formally written letters.

I will fight for you Aveion. I didn't even get to know you, but I will fight for you.

ETA: When I say the "State of Virginia, and the town of Roanoke", I don't mean the actual people.. (well except for ML's family.. and anyone else who saw/knew of Aveion) I mean the State, County, and Town lawmakers, the CPS workers, and the PA case workers... who didn't do more to ensure that baby's safety.

There was a time in Aveion Lewis' short life when he was a healthy, normal-sized boy.

That was when he was 26 months old. He'd been taken from his mother and stepfather and gained more than 20 pounds in the 11 months he lived with a foster family.

"He was returned a happy, pudgy little boy," Roanoke Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Sandra Workman said in an interview.

OMG that poor baby and what he had to endure.

from the above link:

In the four months between when Aveion's mom and stepdad regained custody and when the toddler's body was found in a Roanoke County landfill in January, he shed weight dramatically, <snip> Aveion was emaciated, she said, weighing far less than the 30 pounds to 40 pounds he weighed upon leaving foster care on March 31, 2009.

During a court hearing last week <snip> Workman said the toddler was gaunt and suffered a broken arm that went untreated in his final four to six weeks.

Well that explains either Brandons or Morgans - can't recall which one said this - Aveion's high tolerance for pain. A broken arm untreated for 4-6 weeks means THE ARM WAS BROKEN OVER THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS :furious:
I guess Aveion did not get to visit family for Christmas....
or someone else outside the immediate home missed his conditions. :furious:

Aveion had his appendix removed soon after birth and recovered fully, Workman said. He needed medication after the operation, but didn't have continuing health problems, Workman said.
"He was, while fragile, not quite as medically high-maintenance as he's been made out to be," Workman said.

Was it his appendix or a part of his intestines? Other articles mentioned part of his intestines. Forgive my ignorance but I have never heard of having an appendix removed causing eating or failure to thrive problems.

BTW, the Roanoke Times needs to get its damned facts straight:

http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/239575

He'd had medical problems since birth that made it hard for him to eat

Bull. That child didn't have any trouble eating. When he was fed.

ETA: I just emailed the reporter.

His weight doubled during his first six weeks with a foster family, according to a search warrant filed in January. He plumped up to a normal weight of more than 30 pounds during the 11 months he spent away from his mother and stepfather, Workman said.

Way to go, Mr. Gangloff!!!!

He emailed me back the next day, saying he was going by prior news reports and interviews and asking why I felt that statement was incorrect.

I responded by telling him that Aveion had gained considerable weight while in foster care, so obviously it wasn't "hard for him to eat". I'm glad to see he investigated further.

As far as his condition in the final weeks of his life, there's no way in hell that family didn't notice him emaciated with severe burns and a broken arm.

Morgan Lockett's court-appointed attorney, Art Strickland of Roanoke, said that from what he knew, the first his client heard about Aveion having a broken arm was Workman's statement last week in court. Morgan Lockett spent her days working as an assistant at Hurt Park Elementary School, Strickland said, while Brandon Lockett was at home caring for Aveion and the couple's three other children.

Oh ****, don't get me started again.

I agree! Ok, so let's say Morgan was really roughing it as an assistant at an elementary school 9 hours a day adding lunch and her commute time. What they heck was she doing the other 15 hours a day that she supposedly had no clue her child had a broken arm for FOUR TO SIX WEEKS? :furious: :furious: :furious: <--- these aren't even enough to express how infuriating this mother is. Oh, you mean as a mother I am supposed to KNOW my child needs to eat and has a broken bone? And the fact her family excuses her behavior is even more beyond reason. :furious: :furious: :furious:

It will be interesting to see in trial, just exactly what Aveions medical issues where.

If it was simply being premature and his appendix being removed versus the " a portion of his intestines removed" ......... No words, just no words.

Calliope, thank you for emailing that journalist. It is nice to see someone getting the facts verified before reporting what others have heard or read without checking the accuracy of what is being reported.

:blowkiss: thank you!

I can't believe they let that baby have that broken arm for so long. And for ML to say she didn't even know?!? B*LL***T Aveion's arm would have been almost healed. It would have been extremely painful, and possibly deformed because of this. And the burns.. oh lord don't even get me started on the burns. She wouldn't even be able to bathe him properly with the burns.. (Which I doubt mattered to her..) And the weight loss too.

So what, they let Aveion starve to death, and because that wasn't working fast enough they broke his arm and burned him?? It breaks my heart to know that this baby was hurting so very much in the last 6 weeks of his life. How could anyone do that to another human being?? Especially your own child?? Especially any child?? This goes far beyond child abuse and neglect. This is TORTURE! These people are disgusting. I can't even call them people anymore. Things. Things should do nicely. There's really no other word for them.

Let someone break their arm, burn them with an electric heater, and then starve them.. I bet they'll be sorry then.

...it actually makes me sick to know that we still don't know everything that was wrong with Aveion. Things couldn't be much worse than this could they?

JMO.. IMO.. MOO
