Maybe English is not his family's first language, or possibly they do not even speak English at all ?
My absolute fear is that this kid came from a place where no one wanted him. Still, I would love to give him a name.
Yes that is what I meant. But they did not have DNA from Walden's family until she was suggested as a potential match.
I am not completely convinced that Grateful Doe (Jason) was American. Over 200 young American men have been ruled out-that ruleout list does not include the automatic ruleouts by computer. As DrMike posted a couple of months ago various reasons Jason has not been identified: either Jason was never reported missing; he was reported missing but has no DNA in the system for whatever reason; he was a foster child/orphan; he was not American; for whatever reason his family does not wish to come forward to claim him; Jason's family may not be connected to the Internet; if they are looking for him, the facial reconstructions are so far off from what he actually looked like.
The medical examiner does not believe that Jason was Amish or that he was from Virginia, as previous posts have mentioned. One of the keys to solving this is to get Jason's info out to as many people as possible, not just Grateful Dead fans or music fans.
to throw my 2 cents in the mix - i believe there is a chance that he may be one of the people already ruled out, but ruled out for some mistaken reason.
He's been brought up a few times; see my post here
He was also submitted by Grateful Doe FB page; it says submitted 2013. The owner of the page has been really busy; has not had time to run the page. I assume they submit direct to the medical examiner. I suggest someone submitting to both GD's case worker at NamUs as well as Alan's contact.

Wonder what happens in cases where the missing person was adopted and DNA cannot be compared to the parents?

I've been following this for a few years and have researched both sides of Eric Hager's family. I found that his step dad passed a while back. I know this is probably a stretch, but. Eric's step dad David "Buster"Griffith bares a striking resemblance to Jason. Eric's family seems very reluctant to discuss their knowledge of the case. I always assumed it was a matter of being hounded for years. But could it be something more sinister, like Jason was a step brother that caused the family problems so they refused to claim him? I added a side by side photo of Jason and Eric's step dad by attachment but not sure if it worked
I remember way back in one of the first threads the wad a link to an article in which either the detective or ME was quoted as saying that they are sure that, based on some unreleased info and questions that were asked by someone who called them, that Jason's family had contacted them. Im off to look for that link.

the drdmike thread where he recently spoke with the person in charge of the case indicates that rumor is unsubstantiated.
