VA - Joseph Ryan shot, Christine Banfield stabbed, both deceased, in home - Herndon 24 Feb 2023

She also kept referring to her as “the babysitter” in her cross yesterday. Definitely think it was deliberate
What was Sand's end game using "the babysitter" and "nanny".?
We 're talking about it because it was so obvious yet it does nothing for her case.
There was a lot more she should have focused on drilling BB with during the trial and now the closing is concerning.
Sometimes less is not better and her closing is one of these times.

Yeah, I know. It just hurt my ears.

What's really awful is that he maligned CB as a mother. While failing spectacularly as a father.

JMO
It was stark to me that he never mentioned concern about his daughter during the attack. A father facing that violence would react very differently, imo. At minimum, he would send Juliana to take the daughter away as well as call 911.

He's such a failure as a father to arrange to have his daughter in the house, among other failings.

How is this credible?

BB enters his bedroom to see a man on top of his wife. But can't quite see because, you know, tall bed. Name me one person who wouldn't already be on top of the stranger, peeling him off his wife.

Nope, BB stands there evaluating these downward movements...

Sure.
Thank you.
My thought too and crickets from the CW.
If I walked ito a scene like that and even though being an unarmed woman I would have jumped on JR while I was screaming for whoever was in the house to call 911.

Defense closing at risk of lulling jurors to sleep.
Yep. So far this morning it was the judge speed reading through the jury instructions, then the prosecutor zipping through her closing…..and now we have the defense in slow motion…..

Hahahaha

Defense to the jury: you heard me testify...

He corrected himself but still funny.

All of this.

Defense seems to be rambling and all over the place in his closing. Makes the CW closing seem better since it was more succinct and easy to follow

BB claims to have told JM to stay in the car with VB.
JM didn't listen and she and VB entered the basement behind him.
Right then and there is proof beyond a reasonable doubt that BB needed JM to carry out the murders and to hell with his daughter.
Won't even touch on BB being LE or whatever he was trained in for his IRS armed job.

This is a bad closing.

No one is going to believe that JR fatally stabbed CB within minutes of arriving, having taken no steps to conceal his identity.

What makes more sense is that BB colluded with JM to lure a stranger into the house, kill CB and JR (or JR and CB) and sell a story. But all their clever machinations become evidence of premediation.

I suspect they discussed the daughter during their plotting and decided if they committed their crimes while the little one was away, it would look bad. It would look more believable, they thought, to have the daugher home under JM's care.

And, like you said, JM needed (wanted?) to be there.

As a mom, I ache that CB was likely concerned about her daughter when she saw JM enter the scene, assuming she did see JM (which I think she did).

Is he still talking?

This is a bad closing.
Maybe Carroll will spice things up when he explains why when BB & JM were away for 2 weekends there was no Fetlife/JR activity from CB?
Or explain to the jurors there really was a meeting that BB was headed to the morning that CB & JR were killed it was T.Patrick Smith who forgot about it? s/

Not stabbled...pulled the knife in downward movement or whatever passive description BB said on the stand yesterday to avoid thinking about what he himself did.

If a husband/father/agent saw a man STABBING his naked wife, he would use graphic, strong words that left nothing to the imagination so everyone would agree the murder was justified. Not downward movements lost in all her hair - what?

Making sure jurors remember she is from Brazil as if that is a factor in HIS guilt.

I think BB knew he would need help and also wanted JM involved so he could use her as a protection against him.
Good point that having VB there throws shade on them being the murderers.
CB also knowing as her husband was stabbing her and JM was wherever in the room that it is these two people who VB would be left with.
