FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7)-- A man was reported missing in Franklin County after family had been unable to make contact with him for two weeks.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, store surveillance footage shows Keith Bentford Perdue, 56, was last seen at a Walmart in Rocky Mount on February 2. A family member reported him missing Friday after not speaking with him for the past two weeks, and a wellbeing check was then done at his home. Perdue was not at his property.

A vehicle registered to the missing man was recovered in an accident on February 2 in the 1000 block of Muddy Fork Road. He was not present at the scene.

The sheriff's office says Perdue holds a record of health conditions that cause concern around his disappearance and it is highly uncommon for him to be gone this long without speaking with family.

Officials began a search around the Muddy Fork area Friday in hopes of locating him and say they have nothing pointing to foul play right now.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information to please call 540-483-6662.

Man missing in Franklin County after not being found by vehicle that was in accident

Any news on the nature or circumstances of the accident? This is extremely concerning what with the accident, his health concerns and the length of time since he was last seen.

Any locals out there that can give us an idea of what Muddy Fork Road is like? Is this a rural area, perhaps a 2-lane road, paved or unpaved? Any ditches or bridges in the area? Any lakes or rivers close by?

His family must be anxious for news and worried about where he is and what’s become of him. He and his family are in my thoughts.

Franklin County man reported missing

A Franklin County man has been reported missing by family after being unreachable the past two weeks, according to the county sheriff’s office.
A passerby reported a car accident the same day at 9:30 p.m. on the 1000 block of Muddy Fork Road where a vehicle registered to Perdue was found unoccupied, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question...
When it states a car accident was reported the same day, does that mean the same day he was last seen or same day he was reported missing?

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the driver in the vehicle was leaving a Super Bowl party during the third quarter, and saw a vehicle sitting in the road with its lights on. The driver stopped and spoke with two white men in the vehicle who said they took the victim back home after he wrecked his car.

The men said Keith Perdue, now reported missing, was fine, but he realized he left his keys in his car after he got home. The two men said they came back to get his keys for him. The witness who spoke to police said when they were at the site of the accident, they did not see the men enter the car. They added they did not see the victim at any point during the talk.

After the passerby vehicle drove away, the witness saw the two men pull their vehicle into the victim's driveway.

Am I reading this right? The witness saw the two men pull into KP’s driveway as he pulled off? Would this mean the place in which the vehicle was wrecked was quite near his home?
I’m not sure if I’m reading the account correctly or not.

So, to attempt to interpret the news articles:

The individuals involved:
1 man seen at Walmart; wrecks his vehicle in the 1000 block of Muddy Fork Road ("victim")
2 white men who came across the victim ("2 good sams")
1 driver, passing by, who came across the 2 good sams ("passerby driver")
1 witness (is "witness" same as "passerby driver"?)

Victim last seen at Walmart (what time?)
Victim had accident with vehicle in 1000 block of Muddy Fork Road
2 good sams came upon victim after accident; drove him to his home
Victim's home is in the 3000 block of Muddy Fork Road
Victim then realized he'd left house keys in his wrecked vehicle (couldn't get into his house without key?)
2 good sams said they would drive back to victim's wrecked vehicle to retrieve his keys; they left the victim waiting outside of his house (I'm sure it was cold; why didn't he ride back to accident scene with the 2 good sams?)
Passerby driver, passing by, saw 2 good sams sitting in their own vehicle [not the victim's wrecked vehicle] in the road with its lights on
2 good sams proceeded to tell the passerby driver the story of their lives, why they were in the vehicle in middle of road with the lights on; the history of the accident victim and the wrecked vehicle, how they took him home, but he was okay, but didn't have his keys, so they drove back to the wrecked vehicle to retrieve his keys . . . leaving him (presumably) out in the cold back at his house.
The passerby driver did not see the 2 good sams get into the victim's vehicle to retrieve his keys.
The witness saw the 2 good sams pull their own vehicle into the victim's driveway . . .
I assume that the "witness" was not the passerby driver? Or, are they one and the same?

What became of victim's wrecked vehicle?

Is it just me, or is anyone else at a loss to understand WTH is going on here?

Lol! :p Okay, how about this...

1) Based on timing, I think the passerby driver and witness are likely one and the same.
2) The two good sams had already been inside the wrecked vehicle to retrieve the keys prior to the passerby driver's arrival at the scene.

3) The two good sams and the passerby driver left the scene at the same time - going in the same direction - therefore, the passerby driver was able to see the good sams pull into the victims' driveway.

4) Hopefully, the victim had on a warm coat.

5) The article in post #1 says the vehicle "was recovered," so I'm guessing it was towed.

MOO

Wow. Talk about a headache. Facts were as clear as mud.

I do not trust those two good sams. Nope, not for a minute. Supposedly, they were the last to see our victim alive by their own words that they gave him a lift home then went back with the keys. We don’t have much of a description other than two white guys. Well, that certainly narrows down the field. Lol.

I’m thinking those two dudes did something to our mp. IMO

Methinks the 2 good sams ain't so good!

I'm also wondering what was the extent of the damage to the victim's wrecked vehicle that was recovered? How, exactly, did the wreck occur? I assume (insert rear-end emoji here) that it was a "one-vehicle wreck," possibly due to "operator error"? (Just speculating here, folks)

"Perdue's car was found at the scene, but he wasn't. Wayne Stanley, Perdue's neighbor, says it wasn't unusual for Perdue to wreck his vehicle."

Search still on for missing Franklin County man
 This just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser. MOO

Also noting:

"If he didn't take his medications, he would get disoriented and really wouldn't know where he was at or what he was talking about," said WS [KP's neighbor].

WS was a part of a weekend search for Perdue, covering all of Muddy Fork Road.

I find it very odd that KP did not remain at the accident scene -- but allegedly was taken home -- leaving the scene behind. Although, the 2 "good sams" said that he was "o.k." (as in, had not sustained any injury from the accident). Was there a reason why he did not want to be there when his vehicle was recovered? I assume that he had a cell phone with him and could have self-reported the accident.

Of course, we don't know if he was really in an accident. We have only the word of the 2 good sams, who seem to have disappeared also. At least, they have not come forward to provide any information as far as I know.

BBM Good point. We do know that his vehicle was in an accident, though, and that the neighbor says it's not unusual for KP to wreck it. Which is bizarre... o_O MOO

There is some new information here:

His estranged wife reported him missing on February 14th when she went to check on him. He wasn't home but his cell phone and keys were inside.

and

Perdue was seen on camera at Rocky Mount Walmart on February 2nd at 9:30 a.m. He was at a friend's house until 10:30 that morning. Then that night, a crash was called in, and Perdue's car was found down the road from his house.
