GUILTY VA - Meghan Landowski, 16, raped & murdered, Portsmouth, 10 April 2008 #2

  • #521
I'm not sure looking at Meghan's picture would cause him any grief. Look how he went on with his life after he murdered her. Maybe a few videos or pictures of him and what he threw away, that might make him cry.

I don't think he has an alibi either. At least not one that would stand up in court.

I agree I don't think this was about Meghan this was rage because he didn't get his way and maybe he is questioning his own sexuality I also think he would have killed again if not caught imo

Speaking of getting his way, (this would be considered heresay I guess) but someone that knew him said that he would get very upset and angry when someone placed better than he did in orchestra.

WOW! That is really scary....I think Meghan was his first victim. His friends should consider themselves lucky that he was caught....they could have been next.

Anyone hear how this went? I have no idea how to go about finding out.

The Suppression hearing has been continued until February 5th and even then it might be continued many more times. The suppression hearing is just for the Attorney's (from what I have heard). It is not a public hearing just something for the Attorney's fight out....I bet the Commonwealth is gonna win (just my opinion).

What amazes me the most is that you think this boy is guilty. I have read and watch all the news that is being leaked about the case. The police is leaking to much information to the press and the people of Portsmouth are just eating this crap up. I lived there and I know both of the kids. I know Emily and she didn’t have to tell anyone anything she wasn’t involved in this and the people who are saying she was there just needs to shut their mouth. This has become a black and white issue and if I was Robert’s attorney I would have the case moved out of Portsmouth because what I have read makes me think that there aren’t 12 capable people to judge this case because everyone is still talking about this.
The beautiful thing about this country is that we are innocent until proven guilty except if you are a black person then you are guilty until proven innocent. Yes, we did elect a black president but Virginia hasn’t changed that much which is why I would never raise my black daughter there. I am of mixed background and people still looked at me like I didn‘t belong there. My parents raised me to look beyond color but Portsmouth hasn’t done that.
I have family there my friend was killed 2 weeks ago and the Portsmouth police really aren’t looking into that case. I know that because of all the information that was given to the police. The car that the people were in that killed him was in the same neighborhood last week, and he was a black guy. So personally you people need to let this child get a fair trial. I am so sorry for Meghan’s mom no parent should lose their child. No parent should have to bury their child. I also feel for Robert’s mother because of all of this. No Robert isn’t a violent person. He didn’t get mad easily and I don’t think that he did it. However,[ifhe did do it then he should serve his time. I think that people need to let the courts deal with it and they need to take care of your own families because anything can happen at anytime. Meghan’s death should prove that we need to live our lives to the fullest and enjoy every moment. Because tomorrow is not promised to anyone. Let the court sort this mess out.
Also I don't care what you people think about this post because you don't live my life. I am an open minded person and I look for the truth. I don't listen or believe every thing I read or hear in the news. I believe that the news is just a bunch of crap that they use to fill up a time slot on cable channels.

Ask Snow Angel,
I live in Portsmouth too and grew up there. Only living a few years in Virginia Beach. Portsmouth isn't as racist as you perceive. I'm forty-six years old and I remember when our schools became desegregated because of busing. I don't remember any child being treated differently because they were black. My children graduated from Portsmouth schools. Same thing. They have black friends and race is just not an issue. The majority of Portsmouth is black so I don't understand why you think you and your daughter are looked at as if they don't belong.
Unfortunately there will always be people that judge because of the color of a person's skin, religion, disabilities, etc. They live everywhere not just Portsmouth or Virginia.
If Emily knew that Robert was going to Meghan's house that day she was murdered or if she knew anything else then YES, she did have an obligation to tell the authorities. She's only made her situation worse by withholding what she knew.
As far as Robert Barnes, I haven't heard anything that gives me reason to think that he isn't guilty. Yes, like you, I'll wait for the trial where I'm sure much more information will come out. I think all of us are waiting for that. As far as discussing the case and giving our opinions, that's what websleuths is about.

I'm truly sorry about your friend and I hope that the police will be able to find out who did it and that person will be punished.

AK Snow Angel - just as we don't know you, you don't know us either. You don't know which of us knew Meghan, which of us knew Robert, how close we were to either of them, how close we are to the family, how much we know from first hand or from sources close to the investigation...or what our races are, for that matter.

This is not, nor should it be considered, a race issue. The fact that Meghan was white and Robert black is irrelevant. What is relevant are the facts...a 16 year old girl was brutally murdered in her home, forensic and other evidence points to Robert, and he will have his day in court (far more than Meghan will ever have, right?). His family has acquired good legal representation to defend him.

If you are convinced that Robert won't get a fair trial in Portsmouth because of race, keep in mind that Portsmouth is a majority black city...can you think of a better place for Robert to go to trial?

Regarding your friend....please keep in mind that many of us (even those of us close to family) thought that PPD wasn't making any progress and that Meghan's case was already collecting dust. Give the police a chance. Solving crimes...especially serious ones...takes a lot of time and effort. It's only on TV that it's solved in an hour. I hope they find and prosecute your friend's murderer.

Whatever....I think maybe you should go to the trial to hear the REAL story....because everything is going to be revealed at the trial. You only know about a fourth of the story.

Oh and Roberts Mother gets to see him once a week....Meghan's Parents will NEVER get to see Meghan again because of Robert Barnes.

I know what you mean msnmegan, but in my heart I feel they will see Meghan again. Not on this earth but they will see her again.

Yes, I agree....it is just so sad that it has to be this way.

I just read this complete thread. This case is so sad. My oldest is 12 almost 13. I don't think after reading this I will ever let her stay home alone no matter how old she is. We also live in an area where we leave our doors unlocked. This is just so sad. I hope if this boy truly is guilty (which it looks like it) that there is plenty of evidence to get a fair and just conviction.

What I am saying is the reason I don't believe the case should be in Portsmouth is because it is always talked about. To be a juror you have to have an open mind not a close mind. Also if her parents believe in GOD they will see their child again. However if he is guilty he will have to serve his time and he will have to answer to a higher authority. Also MSNMeghan, you don't know more than a fourth of the story either. I still think that he is innocent until proven guilty not guilty until proven innocent. Your opinion is that they won't see their child because of Robert but you don't really know if it is true. Trust me you don't know this because neither you nor I was there at the time. You are entitiled to an opinion and I have the right to disagree. My opinion is that no one on this earth knows if he did kill her. Let the courts sort the mess out. You can be at court everyday and still not get the answers you are searching for. If he is innocent then how is he supposed to get past this? This is a stigmatism that he will never get over.

AK Snow Angel,

First of all, welcome to WS. Im sorry to hear you feel about the racial aspect of this case. Yes, I have read many articles regarding this and this case. With that being said, I respectfully disagree with what you said about WS or any posters on this board making it a black/white issue.

I do not wish to go there with you, but please remember, you arent the first, nor only black person posting. I am African-American myself, and I have not let race get in the way one bit! Please leave that off this board~ When it comes down to it, a young, beautiful woman got killed by a angry, young man. BLACK or WHITE :twocents:

You are right it shouldn't be about race. However we both live in the real world and unfortunately it will be and has been turned into a case about race.
Also I don't trust the PPD mostly because of other things. They aren't searching for the killers and they won't be we knew that when the police told the family he was dead. His mum will tell you that.

I didn't say that any one here said that it was a race issue but in Portsmouth it is. When it comes down to it race is going to be played in the courts. I never said I was the first black person on this board. But not to be rude I claim both sides of my hertiage I am not a black woman. I am a black and white woman. Also I am going to defend him because he needs that. I will not let anyone not give him a chance in court. If he is found guilty then he will serve his time and he will have to accept that but he needs to be given that chance. Nothing is going to change how I feel about that.

Thank you for your response and I apologize about assuming your race. TBH, we are BOTH bi-racial :). I live in CA and it is not as prevelant where I live, and yes, this issue is nation-wide. Sometimes LE seems to pick and choose their priorities , but a lot of times, (speaking from personal exp), they dont tell the family blow-by-blow in order to protect the integrity of the case.

I hope you stay with WS- you have an opposite insight of this case for people to think about. :blowkiss:

I just am a person who just wants people to have a fair chance. I have been a victim of a crime and I know what it is like. Unlike Meghan, I did survive. I don't think that she should have died, I believe she should have been able to grow up to become the woman she wanted to be. when everyone jump on the person they accused in my case he really wasn't the person it was someone else all the evidence pointed to him but it really wasn't him so, from that day forward I vowed that I would given everyone their chance. I believe Meghan would want that. She deserve justice but he has his rights too. My parents always said two wrongs don't make it right. To rob him of his rights is just as wrong as her being killed. Life a gift and if you take a life then may God have mercy on the soul of the person who did the taking.

I don't think anyone here wants Robert to go to prison if he's innocent and we all want him to get a fair trial. We're discussing the case with the information that we have. As I said before I'm sure more will come out in the trial.

I hope it's okay to speak for other posters but I don't think anyone here wants a seventeen year old convicted of a crime (whether black or white) if he's innocent.

As far as the PPD. Look further on down in the threads and read about Justin Eberhart. He's white and his family is having difficulty in getting information also. As Chicogirl said, possibly it's to keep the integrity of the investigation.

I hope you'll stick around. You'll see we're not a group of racist, torch carrying vigilantes (and some of us live in Portsmouth).

I know a lot more than you think I do.
