Co-defendant says Vick bankrolled dogfighting ring

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- One of Michael Vick's co-defendants pleaded guilty Monday to his role in a dogfighting conspiracy he says was financed almost entirely by the Atlanta Falcons quarterback. As part of a plea agreement, Tony Taylor pledged to fully cooperate with the government in its prosecution of Vick and two other men accused of running an interstate dogfighting enterprise known as "Bad Newz Kennels" on Vick's property in rural Surry County.

"The 'Bad Newz Kennels' operation and gambling monies were almost exclusively funded by Vick," a summary of facts supporting the plea agreement and signed by Taylor states.

The plea deal requires Taylor to testify against Vick and his two remaining co-defendants if called upon to do so. Taylor cannot get a stiffer sentence or face any new charges based on any new information he provides, according to terms of the agreement.

Additional charges are possible, however, against Vick and the other two. Federal prosecutors have said a superseding indictment will be issued in August. Vick's lead attorney, Billy Martin, did not immediately return a phone message.

NFL decides no Titans training camp for suspended 'Pacman'

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Suspended cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was denied his request Thursday by the NFL to join the Tennessee Titans in training camp. "The request by Adam Jones to revise the terms of his suspension so that he can participate in training camp has been denied," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello wrote in an e-mail.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said the team learned of the league's decision shortly before his news conference to preview the opening of training camp. "It's what we have expected throughout the offseason -- that he will not be permitted to participate in training camp, and he will only be permitted to use the facility one day a week for treatment and counseling," Fisher said. "We've moved on. We're looking forward to filling the holes. We feel like we've done so with the roster. Now we need to do so with production on the field."

Jones had been preparing for camp as his agent Michael Huyghue contended commissioner Roger Goodell never ruled out training camp or preseason games when suspending Jones for the 2007 season for conduct detrimental to the league. But Goodell originally told Jones when suspending him that the cornerback could not practice with the team during the suspension, which includes training camp.

Since the suspension was handed down in April, Jones was arrested for the sixth time since being drafted on two counts of felony coercion stemming from a fight at a Las Vegas strip club during NBA All-Star weekend. A shooting after the fight left a man paralyzed but no one has been charged in that assault. The Las Vegas case is one of three still pending, including charges in Georgia and Tennessee.

Snip

The reason race is brought up as part of this argument isn't a bunch of racists who have nothing better to do. When this story is told, race is the only thing that will save Michael Vick from prison. Sadly, there are those who are willing to overlook anything as long as they can be seen as the hero to their community and the defendant.

Sad. I hope that the NFL will ban Vick to the European league for life regardless of the conviction. I think that PETA and the HSUS will keep such a stink going that the NFL will have to act.

Cal
I surely hope that's not the outcome! It would be an total miscarriage of justice to see him walk on this. :furious:
I hope PETA & HSUS do keep this in the forefront...bottom line Vick tortured and killed animals.

Sounds to me like there's no way Vick is innocent of these charges and I'm hoping there are more new charges in the indictment ~ 6 years is not enough for his barbaric acts. :behindbar

Agreed. Should be a life sentence minimum.

he won't get 6 years even if he is found guilty though. i heard the judge is tough though so hopefully it will be at least 3 years.

Disagree. What a surprise! Is SadieMea playing the race card now???

There would be just as much outrage if it were Payton Manning or Tom Brady. The only difference would be in that NOBODY would be supporting them under any circumstance and protesting like we see in the Michael Vick situation.

Go check and see who is supporting Michael Vick under the guise of "wait for due process" Why didn't they do the same for the Duke Lacrosse players?

Oh and nobody supported Scott Peterson lol.
I can assure you if this was PM yes there would be A LOT of supporters for him. I say this because I live here and know hoosiers!

:blowkiss:    :blowkiss:
Heck...I'm ready to crucify him now...not because he's Black,White, Asian, Hispanic...that's not the point. He inflicted cruelty, torture and abuse on animals! He WAS involved in something I find totally despicable!!! The evidence IS all there, no question about it. The only way he's going to wiggle his azz out of it will be through his LAWYER, not the color of his skin! I hope his lawyer rakes his azz over the coals in legal fees.

Vick Reaches Out to Fans, Falcons

Michael Vick Gave His First Interview Today Since Charges Were Filed Against Him. Embattled NFL quarterback Michael Vick made an appearance today on the Atlanta-based Porshe Foxx radio program. Calling into the program, Vick gave his first interview since charges were filed against him July 17.

During the brief spot Vick thanked his fans and all those who continue to support him, and expressed regret over the negative impact the dogfighting scandal is having on the Atlanta Falcons franchise. "I know I put the city through a lot, my owner, Arthur Blank, who I love, sincerely. I put him through a lot. It hurts me to put him through this situation." Concerning the Falcons' training camp, Vick said he "wished he could be there." To his fans, Vick said, "I love you all. I'd love to see you again. But it remains to be seen."

"It's a crisis situation for me, but I'm going to get through it and I feel, by the grace of God, that's the only way. I believe in the outcome at the end, and that's why I put my faith in the man upstairs. It pains me not be down there right now because I know so many people want to see me and I want to be there."

Vick pleaded not guilty to charges of violating federal laws against competitive dogfighting Thursday, along with his three other co-defendants, Tony Taylor, Quanis Phillips and Purnell Peace. But this morning Taylor reversed his plea and said he was guilty of all charges. Taylor and Vick were once close but have since reportedly had a falling out. During Thursday's bond hearing and arraignment Taylor was noticeably estranged from his three co-defendants, who neither looked at nor spoke with him throughout the proceedings.

Vick and I seem to have 1 thing in common. I also put my faith in God and I believe God will be on the side of the animals who were tortured and killed!

Vick loses another sponsor

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick lost another sponsor as Rawlings, which used his likeness to sell merchandise and modeled a football using his name, ended its relationship with him Tuesday.

The St. Louis-based sporting goods manufacturer cited Vick's indictment on dogfighting charges for the reason it severed its ties. Vick and three others pleaded not guilty to federal dogfighting charges last week in Richmond, Va. One of the co-defendants, Tony Taylor, reversed his plea Monday while agreeing to cooperate with authorities.

Rawlings is the latest company to cut ties with Vick. Nike suspended its contract and Upper Deck and Donruss trading card companies said they would not include Vick's cards in this season's releases.

Reebok, which did not have an endorsement deal with Vick, suspended sales and the manufacturing of his merchandise. The NFL also has stopped selling Vick-related merchandise on its Web site.

If all the evidence was found on property Vick owned in ANOTHER state, that he actually never visited...then I would a wait and see attitude. The sponsors would be wrong to withdraw from Vick if that were the case. BUT this was found at his supposed HOME! That's what I need cleared up...some reports say it was purchased for a relative, others say it was his home. Anyone know for sure? How can anyone not know what's going on in their own backyard! Regarless, it wasn't hidden from him. Witnesses (his homies) saw him PARTICIPATE.

I don't agree with everything Deion stated, but I don't find his opinion disgusting. He is merely giving another view of dog ownership, that's not his own. He stated that. So how is he disgusting? I'm sure we all know people who look at their pet as "just a dog". Why should he be dropped from his sponsors?

"I do not condone it, and I never insinuated I condoned it," Sanders said. "I said it is wrong.
"That was never stated, never at all. How could I when I have three (German) shepherds. I take family pictures with them. They're part of the family."
How is that disgusting AdoraBlue?

Why is Greg Biffle "so refreshing"...he's condoning not giving an American citizen his day in court.
"Just put him in prison and tell the general public, just give them all the details of what they do with those dogs," Biffle said.

Talk about being too quick to judge!

ETA: Intesting that neither mentioned race, but commented strictly on the issue.

Sorry, SadieMae, but I believe in the code, "You ride with an outlaw, you die with an outlaw," and that's how I feel about Michael Vick. Everything will come out in the wash here, hopefully if the system works correctly.

SadieMae, I think that Greg Biffle's comments are refreshing because he (and many other auto racing stars) give so much of their personal time and fortunes to wonderful causes AND they actually have to earn their money, i.e., if they don't win, they don't get paid the big bucks. Compared to motor sports, football is just a game, not a real sport. And Biffle still has the right to express his opinion.

I don't believe dogfighting has anything to do with race, but a mentality of barbarism and cruelty.

I agree AdoraBlue, and I think that's what Deion was trying to explain. There are people who see those dogs as merchandise, "just a dog", property, etc. They do not see them as loving family members. I see many people in my neighborhood who's dogs stay outside 24/7. I don't agree with that and wonder why they even have dogs, I view that as cruelty..but that's JMO.

Hmmm...wonder if this was really an accident or perhaps this Dane was just practicing a "hit" for retalliation of his "Posse". LOL

A Memphis, Tenn., man is in critical condition Wednesday after his dog shot him in the back.
