His PR pandering did nothing for me. Do you think he really cares? NO. The only thing he cares about is receiving the shortest amount of prison time and being able to hang on to as much of the $22 million as he can. He's only sorry he got caught. This was not just a mistake, this was a full fledged operation that had been going on for years and Vick has been a dog fighter for years as well. It's a way of life for him. And now all of a sudden because he got busted, we're supposed to believe he truly feels bad about it? Uh huh sure sure.

He won't be sentenced until December which is a good thing. I'm hoping the judge gives 24 months. This will mean Vick will miss '08 and '09 seasons because of prison time and then Goodell will suspend him for a year. Not to mention the state charges.

I really hope Atlanta can get that $22 million back, at least most of it. Vick will probably always be rich but his earning days are OVER. I hope he was incredibly stupid with his money and he spent a lot of it. He'll never see anything close to $22 million again.

I second this.
That's great that he found Jesus and all and wants to get his life straight with God, good for him. If all that is true, then wonderful. But I for one, am not interested in seeing him on the playing field.

When he goes into the big house, he can play Adam Sandler's part in "The Longest Yard"...

I think Vick's money should all go to rescuing dogs who are subjected to the sick game of dog fighting.

Good idea and maybe the judge will do something about that. If Vick truly "found Jesus" he would have stepped up last week when the courts were asking for the owner(s) of the dogs to claim them. He would have/should have said "They are mine. I am sorry. I will see that they get good care and a proper home for the rest of their natural lives. I've set up a trust fund to take care of this."

I think once Arthur Blank gets his $22 mil back, he'll sound a whole lot different. I think that's also the reason they don't just cut him from the team right now.

I don't think he's got the cash. Of course, they could always have him work it off handing out towels in the locker room and mowing the field.

I think part of his punishment should be to have to step in fresh dog poop every morning while he is in prison and then have to live with that smell wafting up to his nostrils all day long. The dogs get the last laugh on that one cuz you know nothing smells worse than fresh dog poop on your shoes; except maybe fresh cat poop.

You could be right, Jeana. Hard to imagine going through so much money in just a few years, though.

Subject: A small token of thanks for helping animals
Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2007 1:00 pm

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Buzz,

We greatly appreciate your actions and support of our campaign to stop animal fighting in America in the aftermath of the Michael Vick indictment.

Thanks to you and hundreds of thousands of others who spoke out, the once underground practice of illegal dogfighting has been driven from the shadows and into the spotlight -- and we've moved closer to eradicating animal fighting in America once and for all.

Our animal fighting campaign is just one of the many ways that The Humane Society of the United States works to protect animals. As we mark the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina today -- a natural disaster that spurred the largest animal rescue effort in U.S. history -- we are in the midst of another active hurricane season.

As a timely token of our appreciation, we'd like to offer you a free "Pet(s) Inside" window decal for your home. Our rescue teams have learned that the fastest way to help pets in a disaster is to know where animals are located. When you display this removable "static cling" decal on your window, you alert rescuers to the presence of pets during a fire or natural disaster. Click here to request your free decal to help protect your pet(s).

http://www.hsus.org/hsus_field/hsus_disaster_center/window_decal.html

Handing out decals is only a small part of the work The HSUS does to protect pets from disasters. Following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina, we dispatched disaster response teams to the Gulf Coast, set up two massive shelters, and rescued and cared for thousands of animals who were left behind.

We've been committed to helping animals in the Gulf Coast ever since. To learn more, watch our special Katrina anniversary slideshow and read our latest stories marking today's anniversary.

Again, thank you for taking action and for all you do for animals.

Sincerely,

Wayne Pacelle
President & CEO
The Humane Society of the United States

Vick case highlights dog's high U.S. status]link

DALLAS (Reuters) - Dogfighting is condemned as illegal in all 50 states, and this probably says as much about the dog's high standing in U.S. culture as it does about the cruelty of the blood sport. It came under the spotlight after football star Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons pleaded guilty in Virginia last week for his involvement in a dogfighting case that will almost certainly land him in jail.
This high standing for dogs in the United States is not shared by all cultures, notably some Asian countries where dogs are food, and much of Africa, South Asia and the Arab world where they are often viewed with disdain

That's a shame Goldberg said that. We all probably could make excuses and blame various heinous activities on our culture. It is so typical of the immature adult to blame their bad and inexcusable behavior on anyone but themselves.

As a born and bred Southerner, I resent her statement. Not everyone in the South agrees with her and being southern doesn't mean you believe it is okay to abuse and mis-use animals for entertainment purposes.

I bet if he was a white southern boy, like a Brett Favre, she wouldn't have defended him like that.

Whoopi did a movie in 2000 that is titled "More Dogs Than Bones".
There are dog fighting scenes in this movie.

The culture of 🤬🤬🤬🤬 behavior knows no boundaries. Too bad people like Whoopi and Vick want to reinforce a negative stereotype.

I am so bummmed that Whoopie not only defended Vickthedogkiller but also made excuses for him because he was brought up in the deep south. WTF? THAT is a huge misstatement. I live in the same city, not the same area but the same city that Vic was raised in. I live in the state of VA in the deep south as Whoopie called it and I am appalled and ashamed that she made such a comment. WE southerners LOVE our pets. We do NOT have weekly dog fighting contest. Guess Whoopie doesn't know that PETA's headquarters is in VA. BEACH! grrrrrr

agree--Whoopi just blew it and so did Barbara Walters by hiring her--Now Barbara needs to fire Whoopi as soon as possible

Cmon....Whoopi is known for her politicial views....I'm sure Barbara knew that when she hired her (kinda like Rosie)....This doesn't surprise me; and I'm sure it doesn't surprise Barabara.
