Oh sweet Noah, my heart is so broken. You deserved so much more than this life gave you.

Hell. A kid just got murdered by his mother in CA 11 years after she drowned him and then revived him. His 7 year old brother was also attacked and is in critical condition. She was granted custody of both kids.

How was she ever allowed near them again?

I believe this is the story you are talking about.
Calif. Mom Accused of Killing 12-Year-Old Son She Once Tried to Drown When He Was a Baby

I am with you @gitana1 . I will never understand how after severe circumstances, a mother is allowed near her children again. Such as little Jhessye, she was so loved in a home until she was ripped away from them to live with a monster that abused her children previously and was incarcerated for that abuse. Why fight for a child you don't love?!! How can they be given the right to children after such abuse is reported and they are found guilty?!!

When I made the thread for Noah, I hoped that it'd be a different outcome than this. RIP sweet boy - you deserved much more than this.

When is CPS going to step up and help the KIDS instead of being 'politically correct, following the guidelines, keeping mothers with their children' oriented!?! I'm sick of it. I'm sick of these threads where the parent(s) had every opportunity to turn things around, where people could have intervened, and still a child suffered because there wasn't 'enough' to pull them. A sap story of a child being burned from a hot stove over their entire body should have been the line drawn in the sand where those children were given to people who would actually love them.

I feel this so much and am grateful for this post.

And another baby tragically thrown out like trash. I follow the threads but rarely comment because we have seen this so many times before. I follow the majority of threads of the missing for many years. My oldest son, a police officer tells me you can't save them all. He doesn't know that I was almost kidnapped when I was in 2nd grade and yes a guy in a white van. A boyfriend of the mother broke into our apartment and sat on the bed with me asking me when my mother would be home and what was my name etc (while my sitter slept on the couch), Sexually molested by an older cousin. Just a few examples. He knows I was abused by the mother that gave birth to me (yes I hate her and don't talk to her)I told him the missing, children and abused need us to hear their voices. Perhaps I will learn a tip, a pattern, know a child, a missing one or abused one and turn that into the authorities. Even one child, abused, missing if saved, makes it worth it. I am so sorry Noah, you deserved life and happiness. My dog bubbles and kitty, McBeal will play with you.

Yeah, it's definitely not for the money.
SNAP provides them with some formula or milk, maybe beans, tuna and juice every month while most of the govt funded housing situations are despicable. Imo

I think it's some kind of "this is my property" kind of thing. "No one's gonna' tell ME what to do. That's MY kid! I can do what I want!!"

In my state, they get a card loaded each month and shop for the foods of their choice. If they only get tuna, juice and beans then that's what they select. It's a generous allotment and enough to feed the family every month. Families also get help with utilities, rent, phones, internet, free meals at school 2x daily and other donations. It's enough to live and have some extras without having a full time job. Not an incentive to have children for everyone, but certainly some would do it.

This is not necessarily about Noah specifically but there has been a LOT of misinformation on this thread about assistance programs as well as social services and I’d like to share some info so we can all be better informed going forward.

The absolute MAX in SNAP benefits a household of 4 could receive is $640 a month. There’s several factors to determine how much you may receive but that’s the federal max that JT and her 3 children would get a month. SNAP may only be used to purchase food items, no diapers, vitamins/meds, tobacco, alcohol, cleaning products, etc. it also cannot be used for hot/ prepared foods. The money is loaded on to a debit like card and there is no way that one could withdrawal cash from it or anything like that. Welfare fraud is also a popular topic, people believe there is widespread misuse of SNAP benefits (largely due to Regan’s “welfare queen” argument) however the fraud rate has been decreasing since the 1980s and today less than 1.5% rate of welfare fraud.

I’ve also seen several people comment that this woman, and others in similar situations, should be forcibly sterilized. This is 100% eugenics and the US has a very ugly not so distant past with sterilization policies. This is a human rights violation and previous policies targeted low income people and minorities. If you are unaware of this history I encourage you to research the US history of eugenics.

As far as CPS returning children to homes, their goal is to keep families together as much as possible because the science and statistics show that keeping families together is whenever possible has the best long term outcomes for all involved. Yes there are incredible foster families out there but often times the homes children are put in are not much better than the homes they are removed from. It’s been a minute since I’ve looked at the numbers, however last I recall around 1/5 children that are placed into foster care will attempt suicide before they are 18. CPS investigations are not planned, a case worker will show up unannounced if a report is made. The only visits that are planned are those that occur as part of a plan developed between the parent, social worker, and the courts after a case has been brought forth, however caseworkers can still show up at anytime to check the children with no advanced notice.

What happened to Noah was a true tragedy, however bashing social safety net programs and those who depend on them does nothing to help those children and further stigmatizes the people who depend on them

Oops, sorry, just realized I was referring to WIC, which is for pregnant women and children up to age five.
I forgot, SNAP is food stamps.
Still, it is not an extravagant amount and I do believe that rather than being able to make money off of these benefits, it provides little incentive to make improvements. It can help parents and families in times of need, but is not a means to make more money. Imo

I was just coming to post the same thing. IMO from observing cases is that most of the time it's about possession/power/control. And yes, I agree they view their kids as their property and damnit, nobody is going to take them from them. Even when they don't care about the child or his/her well-being; that doesn't matter to them, it's all about someone trying to take what they believe is their possession from them.

And to compound the problem there are woefully too few good foster homes to put these kids into so while I believe CPS often makes stupid decisions to return the kids to the parents it's a losing situation. Where do you put all these kids?

Good question. But we have to do better. That poor baby had an absolutely miserable life, nothing but despair and desolation. And then he died.

That's hard to take.

Why would any of us be? We care!
Sorry, I just meant *my* level of true crime obsession is twisted! I spend way too much time on the subject.

I'm sorry Noah.

Well, Noah is not hurting or afraid or hungry or trying to walk better or being left alone for hours any longer. His time of pain is over.
Now it's her turn to be afraid and eat lousy food and be left alone for hours. Her bad time is just beginning, let's hope.

Would like to say what I think about CPS and a system that was o.k. with a child being burned on a hot stove and not taken to the hospital for 3 + days --- and CPS did not take those children out of that home.

Would like to say what I think of single "mothers" who abuse drugs over their children to the point that some children have been removed... and yet nothing changes.

Would like to say what I think about a system that provides assistance without any 'checks and balances' for the innocent children who are supposed to receive food and clothing from those funds.

Will sit on my hands.

Feeling some hate for certain people -- not with the kind of anger that is bitter-- but a cold wrath that's wanting justice.

Is there no way to see children permanently removed from dangerous homes where no "effs' " are given, neither by the egg nor sperm donors ?

Homes where nothing is done no matter how many red flags there are.

Unfortunately, this will happen again.
I don't see a way to prevent this-- unless we as a society can start taking children from incompetent parents.
Laws need to be enacted to enforce the removal of innocent children from those who are not fit to be parents, like Noah's egg donor.

Rest in peace to Noah, who never stood a chance.
Hopefully the remaining siblings can be adopted out to decent people.
I may be wrong, but I thought there were older kids that were removed after the burning incident, but she just kept having more that somehow were allowed to remain in her “care”.

  1. the science of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics.
This is absolutely not what I was referring to in any way, shape or form, not even close. When a woman has 10 children, is a non functioning addict, unable to care and provide for them, is guilty of multiple counts of child abuse and neglect, there should be something done to prevent her from having more children while in this state.

Her rights are more protected than an innocent child's! Her children have suffered from her actions, she has repeatedly lost custody, they have been severely injured and now little Noah is dead. DEAD, he doesn't get to see another day.

What about his/their rights? Don't they have a right to grow up being cared for and being safe? It's disgusting what these parents do these children and it's heartbreaking to see this happen time and time again. It's a vicious cycle of poverty, lack of education, drug addiction, broken homes, etc. but where does it end?

Long post, I apologize:

I am a psych Registered Nurse and I have worked with CPS in my state involving many different children. First, I do believe CPS workers often have too many cases assigned to them so I fear there are not enough “pop in” visits that would show them a more realistic picture of what these children are living in, and how their parents are actually taking care of them.

Second, I would be curious to know how many children end up injured or killed at the hands of the parents they were returned to, in effort to keep natural families together. Additionally, how many kids that were put back with unfit natural parents end up attempting suicide due to their past and present living conditions? IMO, those numbers combined rival or are probably much higher now than the percentage of kids that attempt suicide that are in foster care.

While sterilization may be a human rights violation, people having babies that they don’t want to, or won’t, care for is a human rights violation for the children involved. They have rights too. It shouldn’t take multiple kids being abused and neglected for our system to realize that certain people are not going to change or become the parents the children deserve and need.

There has to be changes in our culture, politics, and the procedures of these agencies that protect innocent children. It’s obvious by the number of cases like Noah’s that our system is failing these children. When we all hoped for the best on here, but expected the worst early on about Noah, it was an indication that this has come to be almost expected in cases like this.

This has been seen too many times because too much emphasis has been placed on natural families staying together and ensuring that people have the right to keep having children (though they haven’t proven they can take care of the ones they already have). It’s hard to agree with these systems and beliefs for me. I pray there are changes made before we gather on here again, praying and hoping for the best for another Noah.

Likewise. Moms like JT and many others before her have proven time and time again that they cannot and will not protect against pregnancy, cannot and will not protect the children they have from harm, and therefore cannot and should not be able to reproduce.

This isn’t ethnic cleansing. This is all about protecting children. Children are defenseless. They don’t have choices. They are dealt one hand only. Why should mom who refuses to care for them have more rights? I’m not saying people should be sterilized because their kids get taken away because we all screw up and sometimes parents do turn it around. But repeated offenses or a child dead in their care on top of the neglect/abuse/removal? Absolutely. Prisoners lose their rights once they’re prisoners, why shouldn’t these people also lose their reproductive rights?

If we can’t sterilize them at least lock them up until they’re beyond child bearing years.
